Is eating a banana a day bad for weight loss?

My friends say bananas are bad for your weight loss if you eat them every day and that I should replace them with other fruits.


I eat half a banana on a piece of rye bread for breakfast and the other half when I get home, during the late afternoon. Should I stop eating them every day?

Of course not! I don't know the exact nutritional information of a banana at the top of my head but I do know they're loaded with potassium, great for avoiding nasty cramps during exercise... also lol the point of my comment is that I lost a lot, and I mean a LOT of weight using CC and I ate a banana every day (and still do).

 

EDIT- Yes obviously factor that into your calorie count. :o))))

 

1 medium sized banana is 100 calories. Just factor that into your daily calorie count and you'll be fine.

And yes, bananas are good for cramps. I eat bananas at night, as they also have a good source of magnesium which relaxes your muscles (good for people with RLS).

No, bananas are good for you just don't over do them in a day. They are low calorie snack but watch the carbs. If you think about it though the health benefits of eating a banana out way the carbs. I do one a day for sure and sometimes 2 or 3 and I have been losing weight. I have lost 10lbs in the past month and that is without exercising yet. I have been just getting my diet under control first before introducing exercise. So ending word eat bananas they are good for you.

There is nothing wrong with them.

I had two bananas yesterday and still woke up with a foot cramp. Argh. I'm not going to eat any more than two a day!

Anyway, I love bananas. There's no bad foods, especially when it's fruits and veggies. There's so much myth out there in the "weight loss industry", such as eggs being bad for you, fats being bad for you, fruit being bad for you becasue of sugars... take it all with a grain of salt (even that is bad for you!)

I don't know about weight loss, but they sure do cause problems on Mario Kart.

Anytime someone tells you __________ (food) is bad for weight loss, disregard it.  There really are no good or bad foods, just good or bad diets.

Bananas can slow down weight loss!! On average there is about 9g of sugar in an apple whereas there's about 27g in a banana!! I wouldn't say cut it out!! But limit ur intake to 3 a week :)

Three a week? Come one really, Where did you get that number from?

I eat one pretty much everday, so thats 7 a week atleast. No problems here!

I've been eating 1 or 2 bananas everyday for 5 years. I lost 50lbs because of exercise and eating better. The bananas were not an issue.

Ditto tropicalchic. Seriously, lost 92lbs while I had a banana every morning with my cereal. I've never heard that you have to limit bananas to three a week...

Complete nonsense.

1 medium banana:

calories:105  carbohydrates:27g sugars:14.4g fibre:3.1g

1 large apple:

calories: 116 carbohydrates: 30.8g sugars:23.2g  fibre: 5.4g

This sort of magical thinking (have less than 3 bananas a week, or else!) I find ignorant and without any basis in fact. It is very very annoying.

Yes bananas are good for weight loss ...

Actually food that was low in calories and low in fat while high in fiber and vitamins and could help you lose weight,The truth is, this nutritious food can be eaten with breakfast or as a snack, or can complement a nice dessert.

I agree with linden. There is no problem eating bananas. Like I said I eat at least 1 a day and well yesterday I had 3 plus I eat one apple a day. They are all good for you and your body will love you for eating them. I keep losing without any setbacks from eating them, if that tells you anything.

Bananas are great! Unfortunately a lot of people still believe that they are fattening...

Mr Monkey Man, my pet, eats countless bananas and between you and me, i think hes gained a little in the mid section 

Bananas are amazing. They are packed with nutrients and FULL of good usable energy. I love eating a banana before I go running, gives me lots of nice fuel in a small package.

Although, too much of anything can be a bad thing... and I know some people who find bananas constipating. So try not to have "too many".
