EGGO ideas!

Quote  |  Reply

Hey Everyone!

My mom recently bought big box of Eggo waffles and lately, I've only been eating them with a little syrup. They're quite tasty by themselves but I was wondering if you guys had any creative ideas on how to jazz these guys up.

I'm thinking of dipping them into the simple cinnamon/egg/milk batter and making them into Eggo french toast!

How do you do your Eggos??

What about topped with fresh or pureed fruit?  Blueberries or strawberries would be especially nice.

I used to eat the multi-grain, I think fat-free ones in the morning before work. I would have one eggo with a little sugar free syrup... YUM!

I once had an Eggo waffle sandwich with peanut butter and sliced bananas as the filling - incredibly delish.  I imagine it would also be great if after making the sandwich to grill it like a panini.

To just eat the plain waffles, instead of syrup I like to use apple or pumpkin butter.

Stack it with a thin slice of ham and a fried egg, then drizzle syrup over the top...yumm!

pb&j (this is what i used to do. it's probably not lo-cal.)

For lunch I'll have two waffles topped with one tablespoon of peanut butter and then I cut up a banana and place the slices on top. Delicious!

EDIT: I see that somebody beat me to the PB+banana!

seriously?

unless they are whole wheat natural eggo waffles, you are basically eating nothing but refined carbs, sugar, fat and added chemicals... aka garbage.

peanut butter and banana is probably your best bet, at least you would be getting some actual nutrients with that

Yes, seriously.  Please respect the fact that not everyone on this site feels the need to be as strict with their dietary intake as others.  Not everyone has the same limitations, nor desires the same level of sacrifice and committment it takes to strive to the standards that clean eating requires.

Eggos aren't that bad for you.  Obviously I wouldn't recommend eating them exclusively, and I don't personally eat them frequently, but people can manage themselves.  Nobody asked "are eggos going to be the key to diet success?"

I like to slice a banana on and then drizzle aunt jemima light syrup on the whole wheat eggos.  I used to eat this as a post-run snack.  It's so good.  I also don't toast mine, I microwave it, because I like them nice and soggy, lol.

wonders how come members like Carmenxox have to be so critical? *sigh*

Peanut butter is a great way to stabilize blood sugar.

or try mixing some plain fat free yogurt with a little chocolate protein powder and spreading that with some strawberries!

waffles, chocolate, strawberries. yum!

These are all such great suggestions! Believe it or not, I attempted to try all of these ideas yesterday morning. Of course, i cut the eggos into quarters and had mini "samples" of your creations. haha.

but i'm actually kind of hesitant to eat them now since they arent the healthiest things in the world. On second thought, they are one of my childhood favorites so im gonna try to NOT let carmen get to me and enjoy them while I'm still young =D

I've always eaten my eggos with pb, sprinkled with cinnamon...ever since I was a kid!!  YUM

I'm coming late to the discussion.  I make a breakfast sandwich with two Whole Foods Market Flaxseed waffles and a scrambled egg white.  I top the egg with about a half ounce of shredded low fat cheese.  On days when I want a little extra calories, I might add a thin slice of very lean canadian bacon.

I make a waffle sandwich with whole wheat eggos and peanut butter and sliced green apple. So filling and good.

Hmm, I didn't see the part of the OP where it asked for your opinion on Eggos. Good thing you did, though!
ugh not only was that insanely uncalled for, it's also not true. Score!

passion_tea, please don't stop eating a food because someone decides to classify it as "garbage."

Back on topic:
Eggos are delicious. I'm a simple girl & just have mine with syrup, but you could definitely have fun experimenting =]
They're one of those things that can handle savory or sweet flavors equally well, so spoon some ice cream or pb on, or stick some eggs & meat on there. Enjoy!

everything in moderation is good... but there are better alternatives, that would be more beneficial to your health and keep you satisfied longer

don't get me wrong, like personally i would love to be able to eat eggos freely, but after struggling with EDs for the past few years, refined packaged foods like that are still on my list of "bad" or "sometimes" foods

i appologize for the comment... perhaps i am jealous of your ability to not fear such products

although i do think you should experiment and try the whole wheat/high fibre kind sometime.. you'd probably like them just as much, and they would probably be deliscious with peanut butter, banana and light syrup

Not only are eggos delicious, they are also something you can pop out of the toaster and eat on your way to the car, or at work, or whatever. I adore them. At the beginning of the week I take a dark chocolate bar (70 - 80% cocoa) and put it through the food processor. This basically turns it into a powder. In the mornings I take my yummy hot waffle of joy and drop a spoonful of chocolate powder on it. Then I cover the powder with light whipped cream (from a can). It tastes like a brilliant dessert, it's crispy and hot and cool and satisfies my chocolate craving and gets my day off to an emotionally balanced, cheerful start.

Seriously, people really underestimate the value of chocolate as a drug. Stock up now before the government starts regulating it!

I like Kashi Strawberry waffles, I think they are about 80 calories a waffle of something, and then I just used Sugar free Syrup. So with two waffles and some syrup its under 200 calories and I'm in breakfast heaven :)

YO man! i have the greatest idea ever for your eggos! ok,, its gonna sound a lil crazy but its good. peanut butter and apple sauce is great on a eggo waffle.try it. Peanut butter and Applesauce is the way to go! Smile

I love it - not only did you suggest something for waffles...you made a great suggestion for scrambled egg whites also!  I am totally trying this on Sunday!! It's like a treat that's not really naughty!!  ;)  Thanks Claire!
