What foods, if any, have you completely eliminated from your diet?  What foods do you limit to a specific amount (i.e., less than X grams/day)?  Just curious :)!

even though im not suppose to be doing this (trying to gain weight) but i hate full fat milk i could barely drink it before my "lifestyle change" i just seem to find that drinking 1.5% or even fat free much more satisfying and i cant stand heavy cream/cream based foods either.

Soda,  that was like 3 years ago though lol donno if that counts eh.

Restaurant food.

there is nothing wrong with muffins if you make them yourselves.  i made a great muffin last week and it was only 175 calories.  very healthy too if i may say so.  the only fat came from the 1 whole egg and the liquid was nonfat yogurt and 3 bananas.  yumm...gonna make some more tomorrow for when my parents get here.

Totally agree.  I love homemade muffins and they're just about the only way I can get enough fat into my diet (so I don't use low-fat substitutions and they still come in at 100-170 calories each).  Now, store-bought muffins are another issue entirely - but they're basically cakes anyway.

susiecue and oreopuppies, home made muffins are better. I agree. for some people it is still a problem because they just can't stop after one muffin. anyway, can you share a healthy muffin recipe???:)

I've given up soda and beer.  Granted, when I go on vacation (like this past week) I allow myself a little of both.  I found that I was drinking way too much of both and if I completely cut them out I don't get the cravings.  I've also found that I'm more satisfied on one instead of the many that I used to drink in a sitting.

Every now and then, though, I'll drink some Seagrams and Sprite Zero.  It's like 90 calories and it really satisfies any cravings that may arise (liek when the hubby is drinking).  That's maybe once a month, though.

I've concentrated on what may be food-related allergies and tried eliminating those items. After getting all white flour, sugar, and lactose from my nutrition (hate the word "diet") for about a month until I felt like my mood evened out and my physical pains (stomach, head ache) went away. Then I started sampling things that had those items in them; bread once-a-week, regular homebacked cookies a couple of times a week, glass of milk... And I was able to figure out that I'm lactose intolerant, I have a yeast-sensitivity, and my system responds very negatively to plain sugar stimulus.

I got the idea from reading "The Body Knows" book. It really opened my eyes, and I am forever greatful. Now my mood swings are nil, I no longer walk away from restaurants needing to find a restroom a half-hour later to be ill, and I've switched to alternative snack foods.

So in all, I've switched to lactose-free milk that is available at most any grocery store, Splenda or Equal (Equal is better in iced tea), and I no longer eat bread and opt for a wrap at most (maybe a roll once a month). There's substitutes for all your favorites, you just have to make the effort to find out what they are.

Soda. I don't drink it anymore. I never even liked it, but I still used to drink it. So I've just given it up completely.

I have eliminated beef, chicken turkey and pork from my diet and find that I have more energy and less GI distress.

Completely Out:

wow thats alot, what exactly DO you eat?

I gave up butter (I really miss it) and any milk higher than 1% (sob!) and macaroni and cheese (if I can't make it the way I love it and eat a large amount of it, what's the point?).

... rice and lentils, maybe?

Eliminated:

  • Artificially sweetened calorific drinks (diet mountain dew or something whenever I absolutely need something carbonated)
  • I used to eat bacon reluctantly but now I just don't eat it
  • Potatoes
  • Meat skin
  • Butter
  • Deep fried restaurant foods
Limit:
  • Hydrogenated oils
  • Refined grains (in muffins and breads and the like)
  • Refined sugar
  • Artificial sweeteners
  • Cheese (I can eat 1 oz, but 2oz leads to 3...and so on XD)
  • Ice cream/frozen yogurt (same with the cheese XD)
  • Alcohol (...still same with those above dairy products haha)

I try (but am not religious about it) to stay away from wheat, refined sugar and artificial sweeteners, and fried foods.  I usually slip up when it comes to potato chips. I also haven't eaten meat in years.

What I do eat: lots of veggies, rice, cheese, and fruit. Portion control then becomes the issue!

I have stopped eating all red meat and white bread.I also don't have any thing sweet in the house. I loved brownies and cookies and candy. I make sure if I make them I have one small piece and wrap up the rest and give it to my neighbors.

I eat lots of veggies, chicken and fish now. and fruit as a treat.

Just to let those people know that if you grill a portabella mushroom it taste just like a beef patty. also I love yams and sweet potatoes lots of ways to make them

I've completely eliminated fried chicken, regular sodas, white bread, juice (rather eat whole fruits).  Everything else I have in moderation.

My current favourite are these Carrot Spice Muffins: http://caloriecount.about.com/carrot-spice-mu ffins-recipe-r180444  They're kind of gingerbread-y in flavour and come in at 142 cals each with an A- grade.

These Orange Bran ones were good too: http://caloriecount.about.com/orange-bran-muf fins-recipe-r201749  They're 169 calories each; you could probably cut that down by using less dates.  They also got an A-.

I remember quite liking the Flaxseed Muffins with Raisins and Nuts too: http://caloriecount.about.com/flaxseed-muffin s-raisins-nuts-recipe-r152670  They're 165 calories each with an A- grade.

Finally, this isn't my recipe, but I recall finding these Apple Cinnamon muffins tasty: http://caloriecount.about.com/apple-cinnamon- muffins-recipe-r203 (174 calories each; A- grade)
