How much fiber do you eat per day?
How much fiber do people eat? And how much do they TRY to eat, lol?
Reason: un-stickied post 8/12/09
I just did an average and I'm taking in about 65 grams of fiber a day
. But I'm a vegan, so I eat a lot of high-fiber plant food by nature.
Tam
25-30 grams on average. Some days are as high as 40-45; others I'm in the high teens or low 20s. I don't take fibre supplements or eat fibre-fortified cereals; I just eat lots of fruit and veg (among other things).
Daily average for me is around 30 grams. Most of the time it comes from beans and from whole grain breads and pasta. I usually think of salad and fruit as having lots of fibre, but they are nothing compared with beans :)
During the course of a week the following fiber foods would make up much of my diet:
small red beans
cabbage
apples
whole wheat pizza dough
multigrain pasta
popcorn
walnuts
almonds
whole wheat bread
CRIKEY MOSES! 100g of fibre! wow. I'd be living in the john ![]()
I aim for at least 20g/day, usually getting 25-30. I get mine from fresh fruit and vegs, whole grain crackers and fibre 1 cereal.
I don't 'try' to eat any.
Daily average is 32g.
Mostly from bread, veg, potatoes.
Not a lot from fruit - I eat loads* but rarely eat the skins (the fibre-rich bit) but then I don't need any more fibre, since I'm already comfortably above the RDA figure of 25g.
* I average over 9 portions of fruit & veg per day.
It all depends on how physically active I am. I try for 25-30 grams of fiber per day If I'm not physically active or working out and if I am active I tend not to need as much fiber as physical activity seems to naturally soften my stools and lower my overall LDL cholesterol.
Is there somewhere on CC to figure out how much fiber you eat per day? I eat a lot of fresh veggies, fruits and whole wheat, whole grains each day, so I'm sure I get a lot of fiber.
At school I don't have to try and get around 40g. When i was cereal crazy, I got to 120g once...never again =[ At home, the only grain we have is white rice, and all my fiber sources also come with a hefty dose of oil, so now I'm probably around 15-20g a day.
I just ran the Analysis from the month of June/July nad it seems I average 25g
Lots of fruit and veggies mostly
I get about 30 grams/day. It was hard to reach until i found Fiber One Cereal. I eat Fiber one Honey Clusters cereal for breakfast (14g fiber) and it keeps me full well into the early afternoon. Then for snack i eat a fiber one bar (5g fiber). Whole grain english muffins and pasta usually add the rest, on top of some fresh fruits with the skins.
My normal goal is 25-30.
Some days are easier then others :)
I average around 150g of fiber per day...it's pretty insane. Fiber One is way too good...I'm hoping it isn't adversely effecting my vitamin intake though.
Wow...I can't believe how much fiber some of you average per day! Question...is there such thing as too much fiber?
Anyway, I average between 25-35g of fiber per day. I don't take any fiber supplements or powders, just lots of veggies and fruits, sprouted bread, and whole grains, like brown rice, and quinoa. I don't eat any processed foods or white flour products, so it's become very easy for me to get the required daily intake for fiber.
Average 25-35 a day. I love Fiber One Cereal and Yogurt. I also eath High fiber tortillas and falt breads. My fruit and veggie intake varies on the mood. Today will have plenty of both, but not so much yesterday/ Some of these numbers are impressive.
RT...to answer your question about too much fibre...healthwise I don't think there is an amount of fibre you can eat that would be harmful so long as you drink enough water to flush it through and you're not constipated. However, to get to 100+ grams per day I'd venture to guess that you'd probably be eating a lot of high fibre cereal or other foods artificially enhanced with fibre and to the extent that that replaces some of the variety in your diet then you might say it's not the best thing to do.
The key to healthy eating is to eat a wide variety of foods and seeing as how it's rare (not impossible so don't beat me up with examples...lol) to find foods in nature with more than 5g/100 calories, you'd be hard pressed most days eating a well rounded diet and getting more than 100 grams of fibre.
Johnny, thanks so much for clarifying that.
I get my fiber through natural food, lots of veggies, fruits & grains...with that I get about 25-35 grams a day. I can't see even wanting to get 100 grams per day, LOL...I'd be in the loo the entire day!
