what do these foods taste like?

Quote  |  Reply

ok, so here is a thread where you can ask what certain foods taste like, and to have your questions answered!

my questions are:

  • what do dates taste like?
  • what do prunes taste like?
  • what do figs taste like?

i really want to try these babies on my oatmeal, but i don't know what they taste like!

dates are amaaaaazing - taste like a sort of rich toffee-ish, fudgey but more fruity piece of yum.

figs = amaaaaaaaazing, it's hard to describe the taste but you'll like them!

prunes - more of an acquired taste, i love them but they're smoother and more 'gummy' than dates or figs and not as sweet.

girl you're freaking amazing. thank you so very much! definately going to try them now. sounds like i'd enjoy all three.

they all taste like POOP! lol no just kidding, the exact opposite actually

dates to me taste like half nut, half raisin.

prunes taste like a raisin, but a very big, juicier raisin

figs...not sure, i don't think i've ever had one.

But i hate that people say prunes are gross when most of them have never even tried them! i <3 prunes, i don't see how they're dried grapes though...they taste nothing of the sort

Like previously stated-- dates are like.. fruity nut toffee.

prunes are like gummy candy but denser

figs are hard for me to describe... but I prefer them dried to fresh.

Dates+cinnamon+banana+PB= one heavenly bowl of oatmeal

Dates are kind of 'fudgy'.

Prunes are a bit 'stringy' (fiber-y?).

Figs are seedy.

yeah seedy is a better way to describe them

by the way-- i read your blog. Glad to know I'm not the only one who doesn't like fresh figs ;)

Dates stuffed with an almonds, wrapped in bacon and baked for ~10 minutes... heaven.

emmy, I don't think it is appropriate to post multiple pictures of yourself at a still very unhealthy weight.  By all means keep up the healthy photos as a goal for yourself!  But some of your photos may be VERY triggering for some people.

Well why not try it for yourself? People have different tastes and one finds the most amazing thing on earth someone else might find disgusting.

i always thought these 3 things would have the same tastes. do they not? i mean, if you were blindfolded could you get confused on which is which?

firstly to notexactlynormal what does her pics have to do with her question about dried fruit? sry just had to point that out its no use confronting people with Anorexia on here about there photos, when she and everyone who is in a similar situation, when they are ready to put up new healthy pics, then that is their call & to be triggered, just dont look, sry. least that's how i see it...

okee well any way!!! >.<

...

Dates = amazingly delicious(MY favorite) :] like candy, but healthy of course! sweet and fudgey like jem said, tastes like the fruity part of a larabar or a trek/Nakd bar obv. b.c that's what they have in them.. usually.  :] so goood!

Figs = dried are amazing as well, they have a kinda hmm seedy texture?? lol!  hard to describe yet love them too &  sooo yummi!

prunes= yeahh as jem said again, more of an "acquired taste" i guess, i love them so good! but they are smooth and chewy!

all of these are perfect for spreading with nut butters, mmm! my fave! or on oats or in yogurt etc!  definitely give these all a try Emmy & see which ones you like :]

xoxo

3 of my favorite things ever =)

Dates- as leah said, they are like candy! natures healthy candy ;) very chewy, sweet, and so good! medjool dates are bigger and sweeter, and pitted dates are a bit smaller. kinda fudgy..

Figs- have seeds in them, they are moist(?...if that makes sense) very yumy! I love them!!

and prunes- have the most moisture, or rather, more chewy and "plump" --like if u took a lot of raisins, and put them together ;) an acquired dried fruit taste id say.

<3 give it a try girly! i am sure u will love these, so great to try new foods! =)

Never been a fan of dried fruit, but each to their own... You should totally try some roasted butternut squash or pureed pumpkin in your oatmeal... now those BABIES ARE SEXY... and delish! ha ha! Oh but of course, I am bias and all I do is talk about those two squash! LOL!

Is there a system of private messaging?  If I were aware of one, I would use that method.

"Promotion of starvation diets or habits that exhibit signs of an eating disorder ("pro-ana", "pro-mia", etc.) is prohibited."

To me it's just implied that that statement applies to the photos you post as well as the text you post.

Choose to look?  The photo attached to her posts is not a healthy BMI photo.  If I read the thread, I see the photo.

Also I don't think that posting numerous severely underweight photos is a sign of recovery.  Especially attempts at more glamourous, look-how-sexy-I-am poses... the photos glorify anorexia, even if emmy doesn't intend them to.

Prunes are actually dried plums.  Raisins are dried grapes.  All are yummy.

ooh! duh...i knew that haha. ^-^ well they still don't taste like plums...lol

If they have these in the UK get them they are sooo good.

Fig newtons.  Sweet and fruity with crunchy little toasty tasting bits.  YUm!!

Otherwise go to a farmers market or bulk food store and i am sure they will let you try a sample to see what you like.

Prunes are just dehydrated plums but taste is more savory then fruity sweet.

Dates are super sweet.

Good for you trying new things!!  Please keep in mind that at 15 years old your taste buds are new and i heard that they change every 7 years.

I know at 15 i wasn't keen on several foods.

However, as i aged the flavors changed for me and became more appealing.

So if you try these foods and don't like them now, don't write off something that you didn't like 7+years before keep trying new things. :)

well, now that we've covered those three, I have a few. (I'm 15 and when I was little I was the pickiest eater EVER, but now will eat almost anything, but still haven't tried...)

Avacados-- never had guachamole eitehr

Twinkies/Ho-Hos, etc-- no idea what they taste like

Endamame

meringues- allergic to eggs

eggs in general

dates, frikkin amazing! heated in oatmeal, yum

figs; rich tasting, how about figrolls!!!x

prunes; fab, i dont care if people say they're 4 old people!

avoacadoes; like mushy grass, i dont really like them

eggs; depends on how u cook them, eggy i guess!

meringues; like sugary air to be honest

never had edamame

x

That's because they are dried plums. Raisins are dried grapes.

I love all 3, however I would be careful not to eat too many of any of them. as you will pay for it the next day.
