Too much fruit?
I eat a lot of fruit. Like berries in my oatmeal, honeydew melon as a snack, a banana with my lunch, apple as a snack, and an orange with dinner... Because I am ridiculously obsessed with fruit I take in a lot of sugar. Is it bad for me or because it is natural sugar from fruit is it acceptable?
It's acceptable for sure, especially if your energy balance if equal or less. Too many overall calories is the problem, and if your eating too many then you might want to take a look at your overall diet and find foods that you may need to reduce.
What is 'bad for you' is an imbalanced diet. If you're getting an excessive amount of your daily calories from fruit and not enough from, say, fat or grains or protein then you'll miss out on a certain amount of nutrition. And excessive sugar, even when it's from more natural sources, can cause minor problems e.g. lead to hunger-pangs, highs and lows in energy, an unsatisfying but calorific diet.
I think it's okay, especially if you are exercising. I eat ALOT of fruit also, but notice when I load up on too much fruit/fiber, I have minor stomach issues. If I eat like crap, I feel fine(at least physically, not emotionally). I think having some good, lean meat dosen't hurt either.
Gah, I want to give my two cents but I KNOW I will be chewed out... but if you really want to know my view point on fruit, message me! Other wise all I will say is try and eat low sugar fruits (IE: don't eat bananas, melons, mangos)
Now we are all curious!
You don't have to be curious. Poster #4 is well known for being irrationally frightened of eating whole swathes of perfectly good foods... many fruits included, as you can see. As CC promotes safe and healthy weight-management and not disordered eating she only gets 'chewed out' when she tries influencing other people to follow the same approach.
I think I have a very balanced diet. I don't eat meat but I am sure to fill that void with protein from other healthy sources and I only eat whole wheats, nothing processed (except for my cookies or brownies!) I didn't want it to seem like I am worries about eating too much sugar, more if it is bad for my body. I guess I was just wondering if because it is fruit, it is different than downing a bowl of ice cream...
I don't think eating too much fruit is bad for you, but the sugar does add to your weight gain. The point is, it's still sugar, but in the form of fructose instead of the granulated table sugars we know of. Although, it is better than eating an orange than drinking a soda I suppose.
But from personal experience, I did notice a lot of weight gain when I started to eat a lot of sugary fruits - bananas (my fav.), oranges, watermelon, honeydew, tangerines... so I limited my proportion to a mostly berries and oranges as a sweet desert after lunch.
As gijane said, it's more important that you eat a balanced diet, and too much fruit will "consume" alot of your calories that would be alotted to other things like grains, veggies, etc. Although some sources say to eat 5-6 fruits and veggies, it's more like 1/3 of those 6 servings should be fruit, and 2/3 should be veggies. Different nutrients from each, and all are important.
But your description of what fruits you eat all day made me drool - they sure are good, aren't they?!
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
