Healthiest brand of frozen dinners?

Hello!

Obviously even the healthiest of frozen meals are still not great for you and I would be better off cooking with fresh ingredients. I try to plan menus and buy ingredients at the store, but lately I have been really busy and most nights feel too exhausted to cook and clean up afterwards. About 4 times a week I end up spending $7+ on takeout and my groceries end up rotting in my refrigerator.

Basically I'm looking for some sort of instant meal that isn't ATROCIOUS for me on those nights when I can't devote any time to cooking. Do you guys ever eat frozen dinners and if so, what do you like?

Amy's are among the least lethal, I think.  But try going online and comparing different brands--most food companies have their nutritional info posted on their websites.

I haven't tried them myself but I know that Kashi has a line of frozen entrees out. =)

arg! I know what you mean. I can't find any that are low in sodium. :( I generally stay away from the sweet&sour + asian inspired ones because there's more sugar.

 

Usually vegetarian frozen dinners have the better nutrients and less fat compared to the ones with meat. But.. the sodium is always a problem. I would like to know any of frozen dinners that have low sodium..

thanks guys! So, I just got back from the store after spending probably 20 minutes reading labels in the frozen food aisle haha. I found that Healthy Choice had the lowest sodium options (400-600 mg) compared to the others (Kashi and Amy's all had around 800 mg, and they also had more grams of food per serving). Also, the Amy's at my Safeway is $4.79-$5.99 each, and Healthy Choice was $3/each. The Kashi was $3.99. I got a couple Healthy Choice ones...we'll see how it goes! :)

I live in London and Sainsbury's does their own meals which are tasty and pretty low cal - about ~350 - 400 cal per meal. While they are high in sodium they are also high in protein, low in fat and high in fiber. Plus they are filling.

If you're not in the UK, you might want to also check out things like Jenny Craigs or other diet plan foods, as they usually do their own prepackaged meals.

I don't eat them every day, but I like some of the Lean Cuisines with veggies in them. I usually add extra veggies of my own to bulk them up more. I did NOT like the Kashi dinners. Amys are good but very expensive and they're all vegetarian.
