Healthy Calorie Dense Foods?

After experiencing severe weight loss/not being able to excersize for 5+ Months, i have been told by my doctor+nutritionist that i must consume at least 4000+ Calories a day.

Although i am a 15 year old male teenager, this gets somewhat hard. I am on an "UNRESTRICTED" diet, meaning, any food goes, (what nutritionist told me), but i still want to eat somewhat healthy.

What are some good calorie dense foods that you recommend that are tasty? xD

I already got....
Peanut Butter
Peanuts
Candy/Cereal/Junk Food
Oats
Rice

But i need some more suggestions

Hehe, anyway. Some more suggestions are full fat tofu, full fat dairy like milk, cheese, and yogurt, avacado, corn, potatoes, beans, tempeh, whole wheat pasta, barley, any kind of nut or seeds, olives, whole grain breads... There's alot to choose from.

If it's not too personal, can I ask what brought on your weight loss and inability to exercise? I apologize if I sound nosey, I'm just curious is all. :o

the doctor/nutritionist, believe it or not said foods like "Domino's Pizza", etc, at the moment is fine, because i need to gain weight back. The doctor/nutritionist recomended ice cream 0_O "Full fat ice cream xD".

A combination of Undereating due to a partial ED brought on by not being able to work out/excersize and an injury, and muscle loss.
What are you eating on any given day?  Like breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks???

Eat lots of baked goods. Those were my undoing! (I'm trying to lose weight...). Have whole grain baked goods if you prefer, since that is healthier than the white flour variety. Muffins with berries, croissants, scones. My brother really likes these chocolate cakes from Trader Joe's that are about 700 calories each. Okay, maybe those are not really "healthy". Cheese also has a lot of calories.

You can make chili really high cal.

Make sure you use full fat everything.

If you can, use 2% or 3.5% milk supplemented with skim milk powder.

Almond butter is better for you than peanut butter.


If someone told me I could eat 4000 calories worth of food a day, I think I would eat nothing but ice cream and bread =)

But if you're looking for "healthy", one avacado has nearly 300 calories.
Geeze, I thought I had it bad at my 3,600 calorie requirement. I get a good deal of my calories and fat from granola cereal.

Beef is a great source of calories, especially the less lean cuts. Full fat hot dogs in particular are calorie bombs, combine a few of them with whole wheat buns and you'll be packing on the calories in a hurry.
I hate to direct anyone away from calorie-count.com, but the site http://www.nutritiondata.com has a lot of information about healthy weight gain. They have some tools that let you look up any food and then find similar foods that are better choices for healthy weight gain.

If I had to eat 4000 calories a day, I'd eat about 10 Mrs. Fields cookies. Those are TASTY, and not too unhealthy.
Oh, and chocolate covered almonds - about 140 calories for a small handful.

When you make sandwiches, use a really good, dense bread, maybe a kind that also has some seeds and grains on top. Spread mayo, butter, avocado, hummus, cheese spreads, aioli, tapenade, etc. Use roast beef, turkey, any kind of meats or meat substitutes, make sure to add cheese. Provolone, cheddar, pepper jack, brie, goat cheese, feta cheese, just to name a few.

Cut up a baguette into circles, drizzle each with olive oil or come up with other combinations and put it in the oven.

eat spaghetti and have a side or garlic bread.

Make vegetables but add oil or cheese.

Make salads but use oilsin your dressings. A great salad is a greek salad: lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, feta cheese, olives, banana peppers, onion, goat cheese, dress with a mixture of olive oil, lemon juice, and salt. Eat with toast or croutons or both!

Mac and cheese, but make it yourself with a really good cheese, and whole wheat macaroni.

I need to go now but if I think of more I will add them!

  • if you like coffee drinks full-fat lattes, etc are good

  • eggs (scrambled, omelets, etc)

  • supplements (Ensure or Boost Plus, they have 350 calories per 8 oz)
  • salads with croutons, cheese, meats, nuts, heavy dressing, etc
  • drinks with calories;  they don't fill you up as much as solid foods do (juice, milk, gatorade, etc)
  • potatoes
  • oatmeal made with whole milk, with nuts & dried fruit stirred in
Remember, "Healthy" is different for everyone.  Every body has different needs.  For you, 4000+ calories is healthy and for others its not.  So some foods are healthy for you that aren't for others.  I've been on a 4500 calorie diet, and i'm a 16-yr old 5'3" girl.  Here's a sample plan that might help (it works for school days, quick & easy): Total:  4,110 calories Breakfast: 1,080 calories   Smoothie (8 oz Ensure Plus, 1 banana, 2 TB peanut butter) [640 calories] with oatmeal [150 calories] and 1/4 c raisins [130] and 1/4 c almonds [160] mixed in       Quick snack:  Clif bar (230 calories) Lunch:  710 calories Turkey sandwich (2 slices whole wheat bread, 3 oz turkey, 1 oz cheese) [390 calories]  with 1/3 cup trail mix (220 calories) and either 8 oz juice or fresh fruit (aprox. 100) Snack:  780 calories 1 Ensure Plus (350 calories) [in place of milk] with (300 calories) worth of granola [usually aprox. 1/2-3/4 cup);  also 1/4 cup dried fruit (130) Dinner:  690 calories   1 cup cooked pasta (180) with tomato sauce (50);  4 oz meat (~180), sauteed veggies in oil (80);  1 cup chocolate whole milk (200) Snack:  620 calories  1 oz chocolate (170), 6 oz yogurt (150) with 1 banana (100);  1/3 cup nuts (~200)
