I've been doing good but peanut butter is always around the house...I haven't caved yet on this diet but I miss having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich! Anybody know any healthy alternatives?

You can still have your peanut butter sandwiches :). They don't prevent weight loss. If you want to be healthier try switching to natural peanut butter, with only peanuts and salt if you want. Healthier and free of additives :).

PB2!!! It's ground up peanuts with the oil extracted, so it leaves a peanut powder. You mix it with water to make peanut butter, since the oil has been removed it has a lot less calories and fat than normal peanut butter (45 calories for 2 tbsp vs 200 calories for 2 tbsp). It doesn't taste quite as good, but it's close enough for me. Plus I really like it because I eat pb straight out of the jar and this way I have to pre-mix a certain portion.

Another alternative is Better n Peanut Butter. It has 100 calories per 2 tbsp and it's more like normal PB because you don't have to mix it. If I had to choose between the two, I would go with PB2 because I don't think that Better n PB is worth twice the calories. That's just my opinion though.

They're both kind of hard to find in stores. Whole Foods should definitely have Better N PB. They also just started carrying PB2 at the Whole Foods near me. I've also seen Better N PB in Target and some grocery stores. PB is less common. You can order it online at www.bellplantation.com.

Hope that helps!

Peanut butter is perfectly fine in moderation. I don't know what I'd do without peanut butter.

You can still have your peanut butter sandwiches! If you want to cut calories though, I'd just opt for no jelly instead of replacing the peanut butter with PB2 just because it has a lot of healthy fats. There is no reason to get rid of the benefits of real peanut butter just for the sake of having less calories (although PB2 and Better n Peanut Butter are both pretty tasty if you only have a tiny amount of calories left to spare and want to have the pb fix anyway). If you are still eating at a deficit, you can definitely still indulge in a peanut butter craving and lose weight.

Eat your PB sandwich with banana rather than jelly.

If you miss it then, have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. If you keep denying yourself the cravings will only get worse!

Make sure it's REAL peanut butter- no reduced fat, no oils added, and if you can stand it- no salt added.

My favorite peanut butter is by Kettle Brand- it's organic, creamy, delicious, and only 160 calories a serving. The only ingredients are organic peanuts!

I have pretty much ditched jelly because of the added sugar- but I found Apple Butter (basically a highly concentrated apple sauce- no sugar added) works just as well on pnb&j sandwiches. Tastes just as good.

Here's another alternative- pnb&j LARABARS. They taste JUST like peanut butter and jelly without the bread. Ingredients include: dates, peanuts, unsweetened cherries, and sea salt. So simple and surprisingly filling.

I've found I am VERY much the same. My alternative was Wild Squirrel Nut butters... it's a small business run by a couple of college age girls in Oregon, but they make non-preservative added and natural nut butters in some great flavors... I buy their packets... (cinnamon raisin peanut butter is my favorite) but it helps me with portion control - one packet with a banana on a Joseph's lavash bread (1/2) is the perfect dinner or lunch for me - very filling and I feel better not having to dive into the peanut butter jar myself.

Have smuckers peanut butter with an apple =D

Go light on the peanut butter, make sure it's on good healthy bread, keep it to half a sandwich (or 100 calorie sandwich thin)  and use a sugar free, low sugar, or fresh fruit instead of jelly!

I'm a sucker for real homemade pumpkin butter!

1/2 cup 100% pumpkin

1/8 cup 100% apple juice (juice your own if you can!)

1/4 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp nutmeg

1/4 tsp ginger

Cook on medium/low heat on the stove until it's the thickness you want (about 15-30 minutes depending on your preference)

Add a piece of fruit or a handful of veggies and

You've just had a healthy meal.....    in my opinion anyway ;)

Mmmm I love pumpkin butter! I've never tried to make it myself though. This looks good. How do you make your own apple juice? Does it require a juicer? I buy apples all the time, but don't drink apple juice, so that would be ideal for me. I don't own a juicer though.

Thanks! :-)

You can also find the Better N Peanut Butter at Trader Joe's.

Are you craving peanut butter, or is it the fat content?

Try mixing some cottage cheese in with your peanut butter. It will increase the protein content which will help keep you satisfied.

About 3 weeks ago I seen this breakfast recipe. It is feeling and usually holds me over till lunch. 1 whole wheat tortilla 1 teaspoon of peanut butter or low fat peanut butter ( I use less peanut butter) 1 banana I was not all that impressed the first time I tired it. I reduced the Peanut butter and adjusted the amount of banana, now I miss it if I don't eat it for breakfast. It is also quick and easy to throw together in a rush.

I second the PB2!!! LOVE this stuff!  Sometimes I don't even mix it with water and just shove a spoonful in my mouth LOL.  Warning: if you do this don't start talking immediately.. the powder will spray EVERYWHERE! Wink

I wonder if my Whole Foods carries this now.. I've been ordering off of Amazon since finding it months ago.  I'm headed there today, so I'll have to check!
