I just watched a movie called Fat Sick and almost Dead. It was about 2 men (and a woman) and their journey to get healthy. They used a juice fast. So, I busted out my juicer to give it a try. I used 3 cups of raw spinach, 2 celery stalks, a cup of baby carrots, 1/2 of a yellow pepper and 2 medium sized apples. It was GOOD! 320 calories, but filling and delicious. I'm not going to fast on it, but I will make one to replace 1 meal per day. We'll see how it goes!
I watched that film a few months ago and got a juicer (I even made a post about it)...I don't really use my juicer, haha. I find it more satisfying to just eat the whole fruit or veggie. I also felt like it was a waste of food especially if I didn't eat or use the pulp.
I have a juicer too. But it was because my dad and I saw several documentaries about this diet called The Gerson Therapy, discovered by Dr. Max Gerson back in the 40's. It's all really interesting stuff, as it's said to cure most diseases including cancer, and it had a whole bunch of facts and recovered patients to back it up. It's a diet that encourages no processed, artificial foods, eating mostly organic, and making your own fruit juice every day. It makes sense since you are what you eat, and the toxins in artificial and and non-organic foods probably do promote diseases.
Anyway, my dad and I have been making juice every day for the past few weeks. We use carrots, apples, pears, peaches, berries, and oranges. My dad just drinks it as his breakfast since his metabolism is slower than mine and he wants to lose a little weight, but I just drink it as a snack or along with meals. The juice keeps me really satisfied for a time being, but then 2 hours later I'm hungry again. Still, it's good to drink a glass of freshly squeezed juice a day because fruit squeezed into liquid makes it easier for your body to absorb the nutrients. Still, eat whole fruits and vegetables as well to keep your fiber intake up :)
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
