I'm on a high protein,low carb diet and having trouble finding portable foods. Does anyone has any suggestions of protein bars that are low in sugar and carbs?

make your own? Protein powder/Peanut butter/cottage cheese/mix of the above, eggs/egg whites, pumpkin puree, win.

why are you on a low carb diet? 

Adequate protein and adequate carbs would work wonders! 

Not low, just reduced. I don't want to waste carbs on the sugars or flour in protein bars - when I eat carbs, which I do everyday, it's steel cut oatmeal or high-fibre whole-grains or fruit. Reduced carbs is working for me, but I would never completely cut them out.

Here's a healthy recipe for homemade protein bars

Ingredients: 

  1. 1 1/4 cups kashi go lean crunch cereal (pretty high protein) 
  2. 1 cup uncooked quick-cooking oats
  3. 3 tablespoons ground flax seed (or you can just substitute oats if you're out of flax seed)
  4. 1/4 cup finely chopped nuts (almonds, walnuts, pecans cashews, peanuts)
  5. 1/4 cup seeds (sunflower seeds/pumpkin seeds)
  6. 1/4 cup agave
  7. 1/3 cup nut butter (almond/cashew/peanut butter)
  8. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  9. optional: 2 scoops whey protein powder and 1/2 cup either butter or coconut oil

Directions:
Combine kashi, oats, flax seed, seeds and nuts in a large bowl. In a small saucepan bring the agave to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in the nut butter and butter or coconut oil. Add in protein powder last. It will be hard to mix. 
Pour the nut mixture over the cereal mixture and stir until it is well mixed. Press into a greased 8" pan or greased mini muffin tins. (Cut into 12 bars if you used a pan) 
Store them in the refrigerator.

Atkins protein bars. Just picked one up the other day because I felt my blood sugar dropping and needed a quick fix that wasn't chips or something like that.

Has significant amount of protein and like 1g of sugar. I was surprised. I don't like protein bars, period. But I might end up buying a box when I run into moments when I can't eat and need something on the go.

And it doesn't have an INSANE amount of protein in a bar. You can choose from 10g to 20g to 30g. Personally, I would never want to consume 30g of protein from a bar, I'd rather get it from a natural meat or plant source.

Premier Nutrition Products have awesome protein products. Their shakes have double the amount of protein (30 grams) compared to Atkins (19 grams) and only 1 to 3 grams of sugar... I haven't tried their protein bars, but the shakes taste amazing..
