Recently purchased Giant brand dried navy beans. According to package l/4 cup is 150 calories. Almost all other brands are 80 calories for a l/4 cup including one posted on CC for Giant brand navy beans. Any idea why the huge difference in calories?
I went to the Giant site and checked out their nutritional information for dry navy beans. It states that 1 cup dried equals approximately 3 cups cooked, and 1 cup cooked navy beans is 258 calories. I don't see how that equates to 1/4th cup dry equaling 150 calories either.
Thanks for your reply. I'm going to write Giant and ask about the calorie count.
If there is a recipe for cooking them, see if it includes bacon or any type of meat products. ie:ham hocks. If there is, the calorie count would increase.
