Nutella, hazelnut Chocolate spread .. thoughts?

Quote  |  Reply

Ok so what does every one think of nutella? I bought the store brand yesterday which the store brand was not only less money but better nutrient value than the actual brand. I had it for breakfast on a whole wheat heart healthy mutli grain slice of toast and was amazing! Im thinking how great it would be with apple slices dipped into i!!!!

I like Nutella, mostly because that's what is familiar. Buying a new jar and then not liking it would be a waste of money. That being said, I remember trying out a few store brands, and one I haven't seen in this continent yet, "Milky Way". It's half milk chocolate half white swirled paste. Om nom nom.

Yes I saw that as well at my local store!

Im confused on the "good for you aspect" I hear its very good for you and while reading the label it didnt sound horrible., but then I read a few weeks ago someone actually sued the company (and won) because the company who makes it  portrays it as being healthy but the woman gained an extreme amount of weight from it... granted things are only good in moderation as we all know.... But Im wondering if I am hurting myself even with a little?

That's the same as sueing McDonalds when you spill coffee over yourself, because well, the coffee was HOT.

The "healthy" for you part if all marketing. It's made from milk, cocoa and hazelnuts. All healthy products, right?

Did this woman eat it by the jars?

Now, I lovelovelove Nutella, but how exactly do they manage to advertise it as healthy? 0.o High sugar, high fat, !!!tastes like heaven!!!, perfect for a treat, but healthy? No.

That doesn't mean it will hurt if you eat it in moderation. Just don't fool yourself into thinking it's extremely good for your health and empty the whole jar within few days.

[Nutella pancakes => my favourite dessert :3]

Nutella is being sued for their false advertising claims.

They say that it is a healthy and a "good start" to your day (or your kids days), when really it is no better for you than store bought CHOCOLATE FROSTING!!

http://www.care2.com/causes/is-cheap-chocolat e-frosting-healthier-than-nutella.html

There is NOTHING HEALTHY about Nutella!!!

Have natural hazelnut butter mixed with a little bit of coconut oil, and cocoa powder for a treat that is actually good for you.

Nutella isn't healthy.

I make my own.  Buy hazelnut butter, add some melted chocolate and real vanilla.  It's way better.

I absolutely love the stuff but if your looking for nutrition this snack is filled with calories and sugar. And I have yet to find a low sugar version lol. So I would avoid this yummy devil because trust me it's very easy to eat a teaspoon of this stuff and u just had 200 calories.

delicious but NOT at all nutritious!!!

This.

And for me, it's like... Crack in a jar. :)

I might treat myself, once a year... Around the holidays or something...

But healthy? I'm not sure why anyone would even think that.

I like it, but can't buy it most of the time because I eat it so fast! Definitely not healthy, but as an indulgence it could be a lot worse.

It's delicious and terribly terribly bad for you. The powers that be may have tried to market it as some sort of health spread, but come on, that's ridiculous, it's basically chocolate spread. Delicious, delicious chocolate spread.

Geez, it's peanut butter with chocolate. Yes, it has sugar and fat (peanut butter=fat). Should you eat a jar like some people do? No. but can you have a tablespoon with a piece of toast? YES!

I feel like there's way too much BAD for you and only GOOd for you-we shouldn't label foods good and bad because that just leads to bingeing and weight gain and YO-YO dieting. Have it in MODERATION. You'll enjoy the meal and feel satisfied and that's what's important :)

Everything in moderation is the same as sitting on the fence.

Who the heck eats Nutella in "moderation"? No one I've ever met. The problem is that the stuff is so hard to eat small amounts of, and most people greatly overestimate portion sizes.

It has fat, yes (nothing against fat, quite the contrary)... And about a bajillion additives. And lots of sugar.

True, one tablespoon won't kill you, but not many people stop at one tablespoon. If you can, go ahead and enjoy it. The point of the thread is that it's advertised as healthy, which is not true.

Edit: And it's not a nut butter with chocolate. Natural nut butters - the kind that is actually good for you - have only one ingredient: nuts (with an occasional addition of salt). Now, if they only weren't so addictive...

Nutella is absolutely delicious. I eat it by the spoonfuls. A life w/o pleasures is a horrible life.

Nutella boasts something like "The goodness of 56 hazelnuts in every jar!"

--The jar is 400 grams.

--56 hazelnuts totals around 80 grams.

So what's the other 320 grams made up of?? >>Sugar and vegetable oil!

Saying that it's "just nut butter with chocolate" is completely false. It's SUGAR and OIL with a smidgen of hazelnuts.

I agree, it is delicious and good for an occasional treat.

Just debunking any myth that it is "healthy".... cause it's not.

I personally prefer straight up natural nut butter mixed with coconut oil as a treat. It's sweet and creamy like Nutella, but it doesn't give me a tummy ache like sugar does :)

Nutella was developed as a substitute for chocolate when chocolate wasn't available because of war.  It is probably a little healthier than chocolate and it is yummy.

If you want something like nutella put cocoa powder in pb with fruit or something like that. the chocolate pb is healthier than nutella, and who can eat 1 tbsp at once?
