What do you put in your oatmeal?

Quote  |  Reply
I always see people praise oatmeal as one of their favorite healthy foods, but eating it plain is a rather blah experience for me.. However, I really want to try getting into it, because my school cafeteria serves it every morning, and I have access to quite a few possible toppings.
So what are YOUR favorite ingredients? Fruits, nuts, milk, etc.? Thanks so much!

Hi I dont eat oatmeal but this may be relevant

I have quinoa flakes and i microwave them like instant oatmeal. I keep lots of frozen fruit on hand and i put some in when i microwave. Ive tried pineapple yum, and my favorite is peaches and blueberries I add stevia to sweeten and sometimes I add some ground flax for the fat and because the nutty flavor goes well . its very filling.
I put brown sugar in mine. Not really haelthy at all.. put tastes really good!
I put a spoonful of brown sugar in mine too.  And a splash of skim milk.  Sometimes I'll also mix in raisins or chopped nuts.
I love regular oatmeal with skim milk and a little bit of regular sugar.  I'm planning on trying some dried fruit in mine in the near future.

I put a packet of splenda in mine..  I know, I know, we shouldn't eat that stuff, but it's that or I'm not eating oatmeal..  : )
Bananas!!!!!!! Mashed up mixed in in chunks and poured on top!! Sooo good. Dont even need honey or sweetener (tho adding makes it taste more like a treat)

I make mine with water, and add a dash or soy milk or sustagen (vanilla energy drink)

Also strawberries cooked int here is good, as is toppingit with sweetened cottage cheese and thawed frozen berries.

I'm not a fan of peanut butter or chocolate.cocoa oatmeal tho

I love oatmeal and always experiment with it. I tried using 1/2 orange juice (no sugar) 1/2 water  and added sultanas before cooking in teh microwave. It turned out really nice - I swear th eorange juice somehow caramelised a bit so it was golden but thick and not sour at all!!

My sunday treat this week is oatmeal with 1/2 a serve of so good chocolate ice cream (97% fat free soy, about 50 cal for 30g which is a big scoop!)
fresh berries and soy milk, YUM!

1 teaspoon of turbinado sugar and 1 tbsp. of a margarine substitute.

I eat 1 pkt of plain instant oatmeal everymorning and all I put in it is one pack of splenda...it makes it sweet enough.  After you eat this enough you will aquire the taste for it.  Its nice because you will begin to appreciate natural flavors such as oats.
my fav at the moment is to cut a banana into my oatmeal,a splash of soymilk, and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Yummy
Oatmeal is my favorite breakfast.  I put milk on mine along with fresh fruits, seasonal.   Bananas with a few chopped walnuts and a very light drizzle of maple syrup is a winter favorite.  Chopped strawberries in the oatmeal is what I've been eating this week.  I also like other berries.  Sometimes cooking cinnamon in and then adding some raisins is good.  Oatmeal is so good and good for you!  It's the breakfast that keeps me satisfied the longest.

I add a splash of milk, a little brown sugar or honey, and craisins. Yummy!
i read this on this site somewhere & it's delicious :

for 1/2 cup cooked oatmeal, i'll add 1/4 cup of eggbeaters, 3 tablespoons of 100% pumpkin (canned), a few raisins, 1-2 tablespoons of sugar-free maple syrup, a dash of cinnamon & a dash of allspice. it's like having pumpkin souffle for breakfast.

i microwave the oatmeal 2/3 of the way, drain some of the water out of the bowl, then add the other ingredients and cook it for another 1.5 minutes.
I put a 1/4 cup of raisins in while the oats are cooking so they plump up and then about a teaspoon and a half of honey with a splash of milk.  ( I use the 5 minute oats, not instant )
Plain yogurt
I cut up apples into small chunks, sprinkle cinnamon and presto! delicious oatmeal breakfast. The apples add the sweetness and the cinnamon adds the flare.  mmmm.
