oatmeal for dinner everyday? will this make me gain weight?

Quote  |  Reply

hey everyone !

ok so i eat dinner at 8ish and go to bed between 10 and 10 30. i have been eating a huuuge fruit salad every night for dinner for the last 6 months. I LOVE it. my typical dinner is a plate full of 2-3 peaches, a nectarine, 6 strawberries and an apple and maybe some carrots.

The thing is, recently i rediscovered the joy of eating oatmeal ! I LOVE the plain kind with a chopped banana and some walnuts. Should i replace my usual fruit feast with a serving of oatmeal? (300 cals typically) I've been trying to research this and i hear that the carbs in oatmeal might make you gain weight ! is that true? i NEVER consciously count my carbs but this is something to think about.

PLEASE ADVISE !

thank youu!

in the end...

calories in, calories out.

if you eat more than you burn, you will gain weight. if not you wont Smile

you will gain weight with anything if you eat too many calories. Calories in vs calories out. Calorie balance. etc. seriously here.

ok... that's not a problem here. i always make sure i stay under my calories. so its ok for me to eat a bowl of oatmeal for dinner , then?

Just FYI, fruit is very high in sugar...aka carbs. In fact, with the 6 servings of fruit or so in your dinner, it may have more carbs than the bowl of oatmeal. Plus, the oatmeal is complex, slow digesting carbs - the best kind. Also, your body truly does need more than FRUIT for dinner (and a **** ton of fruit at that). Definitely amp up the protein and healthy fat intake.

As long as you're eating the oatmeal that is plain and you're NOT sweetening it with syrups, sugar, etc... adding blueberries and walnuts is a great addition to plain oatmeal but just make sure that you don't add too many walnuts or snack on them while you add them because they're very caloric and even though very healthy can lead to weight gain.

If you ever wanna mix it up... perhaps try barley or quinoa instead of oatmeal... both equally if not more healthy than oats! :)

Just curious, how many calories do you eat in a day?

And oatmeal is much better than just fruits for dinner, the latter doesn't sound very healthy.

There's nothing wrong with eating just fruit or oatmeal for dinner, as long as it completes a balanced diet with the rest of the day. If you want oatmeal for dinner, enjoy it!

i dont understand  i love fruit, but i usually eat i as snacks and desserts i love oatmeal,  but these really do not have the fats and protien you need.  are you eating very well rounded breakfasts and lunches.  try not to avoid other foods like  and such.  but i amalso a big bealiver in giving your body what it wants... if you really want the oatmeal and you are going to eat it any way than enjoy it for dinner but i hope your getting all the other groups as well.

If you're under calories and you're not totally living on oatmeal and fruit (which would leave you protein-deficient), knock yourself out.

I eat cereal (oatmeal, Grape-Nuts, etc.) for dinner quite often, if I'm not that hungry and/or not in the mood to fix much, since cooking for one is kind of a pain.  I try not to do it if I've also had cereal for breakfast, though, and I usually do oatmeal with an egg or cottage cheese on the side for a little protein.

But oatmeal, in general, is good stuff and doesn't need to be breakfast-only.

Just yesterday you said that you were going to start eating more, since you are a teen. Remember the teen calculator and how much it estimated you are burning?

Oh i cant get enough oatmeal! :) maybe i could do oatmeal with a chopped apple and some nuts or cottage cheese and a banana? omg, sounds sooo good ! i am always careful about the calories i eat;

I was only worried about the carb content but since i've just realized that the fruit i eat is not carb free either, i guess imma have my delicious oatmeal for dinner ! :D

thanks everyone!!

We're talking about an increase of a few hundred calories - nothing crazy. Add a handful of nuts and you'll be half way there.

Take a nutrition class--it's called a balanced meal.

THANKS.

WHERE'S YOUR PROTEIN????

fruit and oatmeal is okay, IN MODERATION, but your last meal of the day should typically contain the LEAST amount of carbs of all your meals. When your body is winding down for bed it is not using carbohydrates as efficiently. So unless you're going for a run after your dinner, some of these carbs will likely be stored as fat. (fat and weight are different.. you could gain fatness whilst loosing weight; aka skinny fat)

save the fruit and oatmeal for breakfast, or at least add some eggs/egg-whites or another source of protein to balance out this meal and slow down the digestion of the carbs

I'd like to see what the rest of your day looks like, cause if all you are eating is fruit, your diet needs adjustment cause you are probably lacking a whole bunch of nutrients

Ok so I eat shredded wheat with almond milk for breakfast.. Beans and tortilla or something along those lines for lunch.. Cottage cheese with walnuts and yogurt for snack.. And oatmeal with berries and nuts for dinner. Sometimes a protein bar or shake evey now and then. Also, carrots and broccoli or some fruit ! Snack or whenever I am hungry. What do you think? I had oatmeal at 8 tonight and now I feel bad after reading your post! :( I enjoyed it though !

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
