So I made some lentil-spinach soup tonight. I always check through my lentils before transferring them to a large ziplock bag. I added those first. Then added some frozen spinach, and slapped a lid on.

I sat down to eat. When I was about 3/4 finished, I took a spoonful of spinach. Crunch... crunch?

It. was. a. bug. Not a little gnat. A beetle-thing about the size of my thumb nail. I feel sick.

Please check your produce, and I hope you all have a lovlier dinner than I did. :)

I once ate a mussel and heard a crunch crunch. I spit it out and looked inside... and it was one of those little crab looking things! I was sooo disgusted! But I still eat mussels lol.

Ewwwww ... Icky!

LOL ... I have to say, I had a similar experience. I had made lentil soup (several years ago) after checking through the bag for critters even) and as I was shoveling the first few spoonfuls into my mouth I noticed that there was a lot of pepper in the soup ... then realized I hadn't put ANY pepper in while I was making it ... Needless to say ...

Guess some extra protein didn't kill me, but I have never been able to look at a bowl of lentil soup since ... nope, not me ... not gonna even consider it.

Namaste!

I have eaten plenty of bugs in my day - let me tell you - and was purely horrified and disgusted - but just think of it as extra protein & it will not kill you... it will only kill your appetite for a little while (which could be a good thing if you're trying to lose weight! ha ha!) Bugs = Diet Enhancer!!

Ewww! That gives me shivers just thinking about it.

I've never eaten a bug, to my knowledge. (Actually I bet I have and I just didn't notice.) The closest I came to a situation like that was when someone told me I what I was eating was raw fish after I put the big piece of sashimi in my mouth. I would of liked it if I hadn't known it was raw.

Re: crabs in mussels --

When I worked in a seafood restaurant, one of our big suppliers had a batch of clams and oysters that were just full of these little crabs. So the owner got a great deal on these crabby bivalves, and proceeded to convince the customers (and other wholesale accounts) that these crabs were rare delicacies and they should pay extra for the priviledge of eating crunchy clams...

It worked!

Eew! Crunch Crunch!

Did you log the bug?

My friend had a salad that she bought from the grocery store that was freshly made and was eating it at school. After she got halfway through it she stopped eating... because there was a 2 inch moth underneath one of the leaves she just forked..... ewww....

Back in the day, there used to be a higher risk of getting bugs in your cereals.  We always stared at our oatmeal before cooking it to check for moving parts.

My dad unwittingly ate a box of boll weevils from a Rice Crispy box.  (he was sleep walking/eating)

EWWWWWW

haha i remember accidentally eating a junebug once :(

lmao at mollymouser ;)

I found worms under my oysters....needless to say my entire meal was free!!!

My mom once found a grub-looking worm thing in a piece of corn on the cob. I still hate eating corn from the cob now, but I do sometimes. The funny (well, gross) thing at the time was she kept eating the corn because she said it was so delicious.

Also watch out for the little moth-type things that hang out in grains. We got those a few months ago (apparently lots of stuff at the grocery store has their eggs in it ... ewwww). They are a complete pain to get rid of. I had to throw away all my grits, rice, cereal, oatmeal, etc. etc.

This is a funny coincidence, but I just got an e-mail forward today about this bag of salad lettuce that had a FROG in it.  I think frogs are adorable and there's pretty much no chance of "accidentally" eating a live frog, but how crazy is that?  They guessed that the water the lettuce had been rinsed in had little tadpoles in it and one got into the lettuce and developed into a FROG!!!

ugh i can't believe I'm telling this story, it makes me sick. Well I was at my grandmother's house one night when i was about 13 (and a fat kid), and I got out of bed at like midnight to get a doughnut that I knew was in a box on the counter. I didn't turn the lights on because I didnt want to wake up my grandmother so I found to doughnut, bit into it, and felt little bigs on my face immediately. I turned on the light and the box was COVERED in ants and so was my doughnut, face, and mouth/teeth.......ewww. I haven't looked at doughnuts the same...atleast thats good for my diet lol

oh dear god, i just lost my appetite for the rest of the night for sure :X

About the corn on the cob, if you are buying fresh corn always open the leaves and silk at the top to check for them ^^: Or at least I do

Happened to me too....but the bugs ended up all over my house and it was really gross. i will never forget looking at my cieling and it was moving...GROSS!

mollymouser: I only ate the head, so I think the calorie count may be off. Wait, which is the most nutritious part of a bug to eat?

Crap, I guess this means I'm not a true vegetarian anymore.

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
