is 2 oz (1/2 cup) of pasta a normal serving???
i've just had one cup of whole grain pasta for lunch, and am still hungry!!
what would it take to fill you up, for lunch?
according to the (u.s.) food pyramid, the following are sample servings of grains:
- 1 slice of bread
- 1/2 cup of rice, cooked cereal or pasta
- 1 cup of ready-to-eat cereal
- 1 flat tortilla
and we are encouraged to eat 6 to 11 servings a day.
the nutritional information on the packet is given for 2 oz and per 100 grams.
annoying... though technically accurate, i'm not sure how many people think/eat that way. i don't. maybe i should :)
I just realised that I eat like 6 or so servings of pasta in one go (am a pasta freak!)
I'm making it tonight so will attempt to measure it out first. the 100 grams, is that for dry pasta (as opposed to cooked)?
oh ok, i've been weighing the wet! not that it makes that much of a difference, i just went back and ate another cup.
lilrenz - get ready for a rude awakening. i had shock when i weighed my fusilli.
I normally measure it out cooked with a measuring cup. If I have left overs it is lunch for the next day.
I guess it is the normal serving size, but think about it we are encouraged to eat 6 to 11 servings a day...so if you have 2 slices of toast in the morning, and 1 cup of rice at lunch, then you can have 1 to 2 cups of pasta in the evening. Nice!! I love pasta as well...so to be able to have that much as my main course is sweet. Also try angel hair, because it is so thin, you get more...and it looks like there is more pasta as well. ;)
One cup pasta is plenty for me. And 1/2 cup of rice or other grain is fine. This assumes I'm eating veggies and some protein along with it all, of course.
I only eat 1-2 servings a day. All I can really tolerate. Some days I go up to 3, if I've gone running. And I usually have those servings at dinner. I find it helps me sleep!
