is peanut butter healthy enough to eat everyday?

I love peanut butter! I eat it with English muffins and by itself. Is it healthy? I keep getting differing views. Some say it's a healthy fat and others say it is bad for diets!

Everything in moderation.

Yes it's high in calories, but in moderation, it can fit into any diet. And it is a very good source of healthy fats. Though the taste of peanut butter is addictive lol, even just a small amount can be quite rich and filling. Make sure you get natural peanut butter! The only ingredients it should contain are peanuts, and maybe a little bit of salt and oil(not hydrogenated).

However, if you're trying to be SUPER healthy, almond butter is a slightly better option because it has more omega-3 fatty acids. Peanut butter is higher in omega 6s. You need to have a certain ratio of omega-3s and 6s in your diet, and a lot of people get WAY too much omega-6 fats as it is. But, I honestly don't think it's a huge thing to worry about, and almond butter is super expensive anyway. Just enjoy your peanut butter, and make sure you're getting enough omega-3s from other sources such as fatty fish :)

You might consider buying a "healthier" PB such as Naturally More or Smart Balance.

I would think, in moderation, that PB, like nuts in general, could be enjoyed every day or almost every day.

Natural peanut butter would be best, since many brands add sugar.

I decided for a while I would cut back on my daily habit  of eating too many nuts and/or too much PB.  So I didn't buy any multi-grain wraps or whole-wheat bread this week or last, thinking therefore I would not be tempted to eat some PB.  HA HA!  Now I find myself eating 2-4 tablespoons' worth straight out of the jar.

For all the PB lovers who find PB difficult to eat in moderation -- I UNDERSTAND!

I agree with shane - it depends on the kind of peanut butter.

My peanut butter has two ingredients: peanuts and salt (and some people opt for the ones without any salt, too - but I can't go that far). I eat it daily.

peanut butter is great! filling, full of healthy protein and fats (contrary to popular belief, saturated fats are essential to every diet).

all through middle and high school, i had a peanut butter on two slices of whole wheat bread EVERY SINGLE DAY for lunch (usually with some chex mix, ice cream, sunchips, juice, whatnot).  what is that... 7 years?! and i was a healthy 5'5 and consistently 115 lb high school girl!  haha.

i love peanut butter :-)  i work now and i'm 23 and i STILL bring peanut butter sandwiches to lunch (eating now as i type).  i work at a huge corporate bank in NYC too haha where the norm is to go out and grab a salad or something for lunch, but i like my good ol' cheap pb! i also like topping the other slice with some honey for sweetness.

i have switched it up as i've aged, another fave is almond butter (always roasted), sunflower seed butter, the pb&co peanut butters are AMAZING (DARK CHOCOLATE DREAMS?! cmon), nutella for obvious reasons (though not quite as healthy), etc!

Haha, can I ditto everything you said?! I ate it nearly every day in high school too... and at age 23, I still do!

Almond butter is also my favorite, but I'm currently working through a jar of sunflower seed butter.

The fats in nuts are good for you. I wouldn't eat the whole jar in one sitting, but having some every day won't hurt you. ;)

It definitely is healthy enough :) Peanut butter has healthy fats, barely any sugar, and good amounts of protein! I eat it everyday, sometimes multiple servings... it's so delicious!

Watch out for peanut butter.  The natural stuff is great.  It doesn't have hydrogenated vegetable oil. Look at the skippy stuff. There's hydrogenated vegetable oil added. I bought a new peanut butter, it's Adams brand, it has lots of crunchy peanuts in it, yummy.  The only thing about these natural ones,  they don't have the stabilizer in it so there's oil on the top.  just mix it up with a knife. Smile I seriously threw out all my skippy and bought the natural pb and my kids love it too.

Omg love peanut butter-unhealthy!? I consider it one of my healthiest snacks. today I had 1.5 tbsp (aim for 1, but can't help but taste a little more after I'm done) on a slice of whole wheat bread. Yum, filling, and gave me energy for my workout!

I use Crazy Richard's Natural Peanut Butter- it's only ingredient is peanuts. If you're used to the processed, sugary, salty stuff it takes a little getting used to. But honestly I can't eat that other stuff now-the natural is sooo good. sometimes I add peanut butter & co chocolate dream as a thin top layer and geez I go to heaven!

I bought a good blender and make peanut butter at home... It's easy and fun... but not really cheap..You can control the amount of salt..I found that throwing in a spoon of peanut oil helps a great deal.  Go ahead, experiment... use different nuts.. maybe a bit of honey..its all good.. in moderation.  I have even added a bit of flax.

I thought I would ask since this is a question about PB ( not my post though so sorry. I just didn't want to make another post about PB ) is it okay to eat if it says sugar, salt, palm oil, and peanuts? Its only 3 grams of sugar

That's what's in my peanut butter too :) It's totally fine, there's no reason to obsess over just 3 grams of sugar for 2 tbsp! I used to get the "all natural" peanut butters with just peanuts and salt, but these taste better and they're still really healthy! So I'd say go for it!

Natural peanut butter with a fresh banana mixed in - Good Stuff!!

Have you ever tried Elvis Presley's favorite sandwich - peanut butter, banana slices and bacon sandwich? I got hooked! But really, I do eat it everyday as well, but this post got me thinking, how much CAN I eat everyday and not go overboard. Define 'moderation' ;)

Saragusa did what we're all trying to do now - take control of our health and diet. Although it was a mental struggle at first, Saragusa used Calorie Count (and a few of her own clever tricks!) to track everything she ate. As a result she's over 80 pounds lighter and a lot stronger than she was before.
