Pesticides in food

So this is a multi-part question for those genii that peruse through these forums, I hope you have an answer for me!

 

1) I have heard even organic foods have pesticides, just "safer" ones or "fewer" than non-organic foods. Is there merit to this statement?

2) I know about the top 12 foods to avoid becasue they are pesticide-laden. Anyone have links to research on the effects of these pesticides? I'm questioning just how dangerous it is to eat some of these non-organic foods.

3) Do frozen foods have pesticides? I buy frozen berries. Is it any healthier than the non-frozen ones?

4) Does washing your fruit really accomplish anything? I have read reports (one from consumer reports) that say washing and all those cleaners you see at stores don't really make an effect. Anyone know much about this?

 

I'm hoping to be pointed to reliable articles on these topics. I don't want to get into a words war of subjective opinions. I have found much conflicting information but nothing conclusive from a reliable source.

I think I can help a bit.  Interestingly, I just read this today:

But to get to your questions:

1)Yes, organic requirements only require that farmers use organically approved pesticides, fungicides, etc.  Some are harmless, others are known carcinogens (just naturally occurring ones).

2)  It seems that the only pretty clear link is between high levels of pesticide exposure and Parkinson's (and potentially other neurodegenerative diseases).  The jury is still out on "normal" exposure, although rats seem to develop spatial memory issues after exposure.

3) Yes, they do. I don't know the difference between frozen and fresh. 

4) Having worked on a farm, I think washing is important. If nothing else, think of the person handling or packaging your produce that was out in the field all day picking amongst the recently sprayed leaves (or actually doing the spraying).  The chemicals have permeated his/her clothes and hair and they are sure to get on the food. I wash to minimize my exposure, although just with water.

i do not have a link but iv'e read that simply washing ur produce can remove 50% of pesticides . and besides no one wants to eat that wax they put on the stuff.
