Protein-dense Food

Quote  |  Reply

It may have been asked before...but I'm looking for foods that are dense in protein.

What foods have a lower calorie count, but a high amount of protein? I know of two right now that I can think off the top of my head: cottage cheese and TVP.

Anything else?

Most animal products are high in protein.

  • Turkey
  • Chicken
  • Fish
  • Seafood
  • Beef
  • Tofu
  • Tempeh

White fish like flounder, cod, halibut and sole are nearly pure protein and very low in calories. These taste better than gelatin which is also nearly pure protein but has to be added to other foods as a supplement to be tolerable. Same goes for stock made from boiling meaty bones. And then there's gluten, which is high purity wheat protein, useful in breadmaking and for making Japanese Seitan dumplings.

COD! Hurray!

I know some protein bars are filled with more sugar than protein, but what about those NUT bars held together with..say...honey, or agave syrup (the not-so-natural natural sweetener?)

That's my problem, I can't have gluten. It'd be fun to try it in it's pure form, but the side-affects aren't worth it. And so, my search for protein sources are limited to meat and nuts.

They have even less protein and still high in sugar. Nuts are not as high in protein as the protein powders used in other kinds of bars.

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
