Regular chocolate Ice cream VS. vanilla ice cream
Which would you say would be the lesser of the evils?
See, i figured i should switch out the chocolate for the vanilla.
Which would you consider healthier?
Does the chocolate generally have more calories than plain vanilla?
If you're comparing regular chocolate with regular vanilla, there is only a small difference in calorie and fat content, and it's in favor of chocolate ice cream, which is slightly lower in fat and calories than vanilla). The difference is pretty negligible, though, so you really should just eat whichever flavor you personally prefer. If you're already going to go ahead and eat regular ice cream, I can't see how 1/2 a gram of fat here or there will make much of a difference.
As for which is healthier, you'll get the dairy benefits with either flavor you choose. I don't imagine that most generic brands of chocolate ice cream have enough cacao in them to give you the health benefits associated with darker chocolates. You may need to find a premium dark chocolate ice cream for that. Even then, you'd probably get better results just having a square of good dark chocolate.
I would say whichever one you are craving is healthier
. If you eat what you want now, you'll be less likely to go nuts on it later.
Ice cream is one of my favorite foods, as I'm sure it's up there on many people's lists!
I really like Breyer's Light Vanilla. I've tried several, and that one in particular seems sweeter than a lot of the other light ice creams. It's called Breyer's All Natural Smooth & Dreamy and says on the container that it's got 1/2 the fat. For 1/2 cup, it's got 110 calories and 3.5 grams of fat.
I usually prefer chocolatey stuff, so I get Hershey's chocolate syrup and dump 1 Tbsp of that on there for an extra 50 calories. It's delicious. You could add 1/2 cup of milk, get an extra boost of calcium and have a choclate shake... I actually think I like shakes better than plain ice cream!
I don't know if that really answers your question... guess it's a suggestion to try the Breyer's Light because it's lower in calories and fat than a lot of your regular vanilla ice creams and it's still got that indulgent sweet vanilla flavor. And just that splash of chocolate syrup really goes a long way.
Enjoy your ice cream! :)
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
