I buy rotisserie chicken a lot at HEB (local grocery store). It costs like $6 and I can get several meals out of it.. but I was never sure how to calculate it.. or how many ounces it was.. until I found this!  Thought I'd share...

1. Know what you're getting. One rotisserie chicken will give you about 4 cups of shredded chicken, both white and dark meat (no skin). The typical chicken translates into about 12 ounces of light meat and 8 ounces of dark meat (no skin), which gives you a total of:

  • 1,037 calories
  • 166 g protein
  • 0 g carbohydrate
  • 34 g fat
  • 10.4 g saturated fat
  • 13.7 g monounsaturated fat
  • 8.2 g polyunsaturated fat
  • 505 mg cholesterol
  • 0 g fiber
  • 451 mg sodium (unless some sodium is added to season the chicken before roasting)
  • 30% calories from fat

Well - this would still depend on how much the chicken weighs.  You can get small measly rotisserie chickens, and ones that are 5 to 6 lbs!

Ah, H.E.B.'s Honey Mesquite! Nom nom nom!

When I log it, I choose the closest match in the food search... however, because we like the rotisserie chicken so much, we ended up buying an inexpensive rotisserie oven!

Have you tried H.E.B.'s roasted turkey breasts? They're fantastic!

Many places inject their rotisserie chicken with oil or butter, so I wouldn't put much stock into that.

Store-bought roast chicken always has a TON of sodium and often msg as well, unless you're lucky enough to have a grocery that does salt-free or 'lightly seasoned'. So that sodium quota is way off-beam.

I know this post is really old, but I was searching to find out how much total meat was on an HEB rotisserie chicken and this came up. Basically, thank you!!!  This is exactly the information I needed. :)

Thank you for this information. It was very much appreciated. Smile

Um, cup is a volume of measure, not weight. How many ounces of chicken is that? Or grams?
