What are some Very VERY VERY Low Calorie Snacks???
Sometimes I just want to eat something. I am sick of baby carrots. Is there anything I can eat as a snack and not worry about the calories. I just want to chew something, and I am not a fan of gum, it makes me very hungry. So please please please suggest something I can just snack on without too much counting involved :)
This is going to sound weird (it did to me too when my mother mentioned it) but what about baby food? I'm not talking about the goo, but about the little "finger food" puffs that come in flavors like apple cinnimon, strawberry, cherry, sweet potato and banana. You can have 80 of them for only 25 calories. I was surpised at how good they are to munch on.
Well, first of all, it's so crazy that someone mentioned baby food. i usually just spend a lot of time browsing through the food aisles at wal-mart, checking out the food labels (calories) on literally everything, and just last night i walked past the baby food. it's VERY inexpensive (like 46-50 cents a jar) and really low in calories too. personally, i like the gooey jar kind (like chicken & rice dinner) but the little snacks are good too! try some!
and another thing, my boyfriend LOVES rice krispy treats, especially PB ones. and so i made some. as i was makin them, they smelled soooo good and i knew i was gonna have to have one. so i thought about it, and they aren't that bad at all!
1 stick butter (try low fat or fat free? butter)
1 C marshmallow puff
1 C PB
6 C rice krispies
And all you do is melt the butter in the microwave and mix in the marshmallow and PB until it's smooth and creamy and then add the krispies. Mix it really well so that all the krispies are coated and be sure to get the mix that lays in the very bottom of the bowl or what pours out last will be gooey and fall apart when you cut them.
You'd be surprised at how much of a low-cal snack this is. marshmallows (the puff is 88 cents at wal-mart!) are low in calories and Pb is just flat out good for you. the butter's the thing to feel guilty about, but limit yourself to like one treat a day or something. and rice krispy cereal is fat-free!
One thing i just can't get enough of is pickles. but all that sodium! what is too much and what's the negative side of too much sodium when dieting?? anyone know?
that snack thingy: the turkey and lettuce roll-up is amazing! HUGE props to whoever thought of that one! and the same with the veggie soup. i'm DEF trying that one. i've really been wanting to have some pancakes. they're my fav food, and i know you can but whole wheat mix now, but i wouldn't like them without the sweetness of syrup. HELP!
replies would be awesome, i know it's been awhile since the last post :)

Too much sodium = water retention = funny weighing
Also bad for health. Most of us (on average) eat twice the RDI, which is the upper limit of what we really need (900-1500mg I think) It causes all sorts of probs. Cant remember what. I think its high blood pressure, something to do with cholesterol and heart attacks. THe problem is really pre-packaged foods. Maybe you can try snacking on cucumber instead? Like not out of a jar. THere are also these mini-cucumbers you can get now. Similar crunch I believe

100 calorie packs of popcorn yield almost 8 cups... Sugar free Jello is also good at 40 cals per 2 cups... Or try "potato" chips made from kale. It sounds nuts, but if you put kale leaves on a baking sheet and slide them into the oven for 10 minutes it's a crunchy low calorie alternative to potato chips :)
i made strawberry sugar free jello, cut up some fresh strawberries to put in it and topped with a dollop of fat free cool whip for dessert last night... can even tell it's low cal - yum!
I dont know if you consider 80 cal a low calorie snack or if you even like tuna. But if you get those bumblebee fat free tuna salad with crackers they're 80 calories each, and they're so good! Does anybody else like those?
jello light very low in cal's 10 cal for 1/2 cup i eat mine with a slice of toast. good snack
If you're not afraid of artificial sweetener (use Stevia or even Splenda, if you can afford it) make green tea pops! Frozen pops take forever to eat.
Anything frozen is good. It will take you longer to finish them. I always freeze fat-free yoghurt as I find they are gone in two spoonfulls. They last so much longer frozen.
Mr. Freezes are actually only 10 calories each. But alas, they do give you sort of a sugar rush. Best to have one if you know you won't have another (on your way out the door or something to tide you over before your next meal or right before bed).
Pickles are great. They are high in sodium, so they make you thirsty enough to drink an extra glass of water (I think that evens it out..)
Chicken broth is also good as it takes a long time to eat and is surprisingly filling.
Stir-fry made only with soy sauce and veggies also fills you up nicely.
The pickled ginger that comes with sushi (also availble in bulk form) has no calories.
Flavoured toothpicks. You can get a whole pack of them at Dollarama for a dollar. They are calorie free.
Crickets and other random bugs. Yes, I know. It's crazy. If you ever have a chance to pick up flavoured crickets - do it. They're extremely fun to eat and creep out everyone. Usually they curb your appetite. They are low in calories and high in protein.
Lollypops - as long as your not a biter. Usually they go about 10-25 calories and last a while.
Plain popcorn, only because you can eat a lot of it before the calorie consumption goes up. Great for when you want to snack but aren't actually hungry.
Puffed wheat cereal. Just eat it like popcorn if you're too lazy to make plain popcorn. The grocery store (No Frills in particular) sells big bags of them for 2.99 (in Canada, anyway). Put some Becel Spray Butter on them.
BECEL SPRAY BUTTER - zero calories. Completely awesome. Changed my life.

am i crazy or did no one mention those 100 calorie snack packs from nabisco? They have all kinds: cookies, crackers, teddy grahams! i think they taste pretty good too. I dont know what the fat or sugar is in them but they could be a good mindless alternative.
This is a topic close to my heart :)
Sugrar free jello -really good about 5 cal sometimes i eat it with a handfull of grapes
Sugar free pudding- chocolate or vanilla about 30 cal sometimes i'll add half a bananna to my vanilla or a small handfull of sliced almonds to my chocolate (also good for desert after dinner)
100 cal kettle corn popcorn- espceacially good during you girly "unmentionable week" when I'm craving something salty and sweet.
Apples- plain or with 1 tablespoon of light peanut butter
Instant oatmeal- fills me up for a few hours too about 130 cal per package

...I just thought of another one. This one is good for those day when you just want a something that taste like reall junk food...
1 pack 100cal cheetos (or doritos...) and a can Coke Zero. Feels like you just raided the vending machine, but the whole snack only has 100 cals :)...no real nutritional value though

1 1/2 cups of skinny corn chips! mmmm
knarik, I LOVE those tuna snacks. Only problem is, they leave me wanting more, so I end up eating something else.
Ooh kettle corn! They had a twoforone sale so now I have like 6 boxes of the 100 cal packs. I bought some cheese and squirt it on my plain rice cakes. Last night I hasd a "finger full" of Nutella (AMAZING!) and that satisfied my chocolate fix.
I don't believe anything over 20 calories to be a "very very low calorie snack." I mean, you wouldn't have a 35 calorie pudding with almonds (probably about 50 calories even if you just add five or six) and count it as "free."
...but these are definitely great ideas for treats...

Picklesssss. Lettuce with salsa, if you can handle the spice. Sugar-free jello. If you just want to chew on something though and you are sick of carrots, try celery.
i tried walking through the baby food section when i was at the food store the other day....but i kept feeling like people were staring at me....i'm only 21 years old, and dont have a child...i dont know if it was just in my mind....but i was kind of afraid i would see someone i knew while i was in the aisle....so i just tried to take quick peeks as i walked by and didn't end up getting anything
I found these italian cookie things in the grocery store. They taste like waffle cones. Only 25 cals per wafer thingy. Satisfies the sweet tooth. If I'm feeling like chocolate, nutella is awesome. 1 tsp. goes a long way and is only 25 calories.
