If you want to splurge on ONE alcholic drink - what would it be?
I don't drink often. Rarely, in fact. If I do, I'm usually out with the boys, they get a pitcher of light beer, and I have a glass, followed by many glasses of water, lol. But, I've been thinking I need to let loose, enjoy myself more.
So I'm wondering, if there's one beer or alcoholic drink of choice for you, just ONE, what would it be??
I live in Fort Collins, CO, which has a wide variety of local brewers just blocks away. Are there certain, um, "flavors" of local brews you enjoy? Like, hints of this or undertones of that?
Thanks everybody :)

That help? Maybe go for low calorie one?
Well, kinda. See, I'm saying that I want to SPLURGE on the best drink I could. Make the one drink worth it. So, I wouldn't be entirely concerned about calories if you know what I mean. Granted, I don't want an 800 cal drink, but I also don't want my splurge to be another light beer, which is pretty much bubble water, bleh
Do you have Southern Comfort where you are? No idea how many calories, etc in it but it's absolutely gorgeous with lemonade
if I could only have one, I'd have one BARREL of beer......<sigh>
I had a shot of SoCo and lime once upon a time, it was a bit strong at first but pretty tasty! Lemonade sounds way better :) what ratio of liquor:lemonade do you use?
haha, a barrel... *sings to self* Roll out the barrel!
I drink light beer fairly often but to splurge I'll have a more flavorful (which means more alcohol and therefore more calories) beer. I like things like Sierra Nevada, Goose Island, etc. but I don't know what you would like. For more flavor but still keeping it fairly light I'll go with Guinness Draft. But I also like cocktails such as the traditional Martini or a Manhattan every now and then.
Hard liquor, Vodka, Gin, Bourbon, etc, all have the same calories when they have the same proof. For 80 proof it is 60 calories per ounce or 90 calories for a standard bar shot. So a Bourbon and diet Coke would have the same calories as a light beer.

A single in town where I am is 25ml per drink I think, but doubles are probably better and cheaper etc get you drunk quicker etc etc haha
SOOOO jealous. New Belgium Brewery is wonderful! I like all their beers but Fat Tire is a classic.
I usually stick to vodka with diet soda or diet cranberry juice. Or champagne mixed with crystal light (laugh all you want but it is DELICIOUS)!
Before I began my diet/exercise regimen about a year ago, Russian Imperial Stouts were my drink of choice.
They are robust, strong, very high-calorie, high-alcohol brews that, for me, gave me a gateway into the drink of the gods.
I drink beer fairly often also. If I wanted to splurge, I'd go for a pina colada... but that's not happening anytime soon since they are LOADED with calories and fat from the coconut milk. And the coconut is my favorite part.
My drink of choice is a nice quality Scotch or bourbon, served neat. I find them delicious, and easy to drink slowly since I savor every sip. When I go all out (sugar be damned) I do love a good sangria or a gin and tonic made with Hendricks and garnished with cucumbers.
If I'm going to drink a fancy beer, in the summer I go for wheat beers and Pilsners. I like the Schneider Wiesen Edel-Weisse (delicious and organic) and Victory Prima Pils. In the winter, I also like stouts, especially those brewed with chocolate hops or coffee beans. For a cheap and decent beer, I like Yuengling Premium or Negra Modelo.
I'm not much of a drinker but I do love a good glass of chilled blush wine or, if we're talking alcohol, a Mailbu & pineapple. Good stuff!
I like the fruity girly drinks. I'd probably go with something like a Pina Colada that's hard to do a decent virgin version of.
Long island ice tea - very tasty, will set you back 200-500 calories depending on the size. Doesn't feel very alchohol-y but it IS :P. Especially if you're a lightweight like me.
Old Fashioned - not a fan of whiskey (read: hate) but I absolutely loved the taste of this cocktail even though it contains it.
Non-splurge - Rum and diet coke. can't beat 60 cal/glass.
Go all out with a Black Russian: 5 parts vodka and 2 parts Kahlua.
Get one free drink if your plane is late? Ask for a Black Russian and you'll get at least three mini-bottles (a two-to-one version).
Jeez, such elaborate answers... Here's a simple one:
Newcastle!!!!!
Hey, a rock climber!
Yeah, that brown ale is very good.
If it's a splurge, then definitely some fruity drink.
I had a strawberry Long Island Iced Tea once that was delicious. Or a strawberry daquiri or a Cosmo would be goody. Something with a bunch of sugar in it, lol.
As the fortune cookie once said, How You Look Depends on Where You Go.
I always take alcohol with food. So if it's with crepes it's strong cider. If it's with strong flavors like beef, lamb or pasta it's dry red wine (2004 and 2005 Bordeaux are my favorites right now). If it's with delicate flavors like white fish it's dry white wine. If it's with Japanese food it's Kirin or Asahi.
