Challenge - no dessert for 1 month

Quote  |  Reply

Ok, I know it's supposed to be a lifestyle change, not a diet. And I truly believe that it is virtuous to eat small quantities of really good desserts that fit into a calorie limit.

But I've been bouncing between 159 and 161 for 5 weeks now and would like to see a change.

So the challenge is... no dessert between now and April 20 (first Passover seder). Healthy snacks are a-ok -- fruit, nuts, anything that would count as healthy food. Desserts are out - cookies, cake, ice cream, pudding, chocolate. After April 20th, back to the usual "dessert is a virtue" belief and practice.

Anybody want to join?

Heads up to all, this thread will soon be moving to the Games and Challenges forum. The original thread will be locked, and a link will be left to direct folk to the new thread.

Claude-it's never too late to challenge yourself  :)

Good Luck!

This is my 13th day and no desserts.  It is the "competitiion" within myself that is fun.

15 days no desserts (I have trouble counting)

16 dessert-free days

day 16 - no desserts---hey where is everybody!!!!!

Congrats pudpie and libertina!!!

No dessert for me again today.  The other day I saw some chocolate covered somethings in the little sample cups at Peet's. But I didn't find out what, thanks to you guys.

I was celebrating Wednesday and opted for a creamsicle instead of alcohol.  It got stuck to the inside of my mouth, had to be ripped out, and my mouth still bleeds when I eat.

I chose dessert and it tried to kill me.  Even though it was bloody, it was still a damned good creamsicle.
day 17 no desserts.  so far so good.

20 days-no dessert.

18 days no desserts yet - even passed up a fortune cookie last night.

today, one snickers bar at mile 27 of a 32 mile ride, when I started to get light-headed. that's the one circumstance where a candy bar is food.

after the ride I don't feel much like eating, and the only things I can consider are protein and sugar - typical after-long-workout, plus ttom.

Instead of pudding (my usual response to post-workout pickiness) I got an odwalla protein shake, some vanilla yogurt, and some plain yogurt for eating with fruit.

Should be able to eat some needed calories with a little less junkiness.

thanks for the peer pressure.

alevin- i have recently "discovered" soy protein shakes and so far so good.  low in calorie, low in fat, huge in protein.

pudpie, what brand of protein shake?

ok .. I had no dessert since the 8th .. but i had some yesterday .. :( .. a brownies!!

I was 6 days without any ...and  i just remembered the challenge after eating it  ;)

let's try again i guess ! ..

19 days and no desserts yet.  A co-worker brought in some lucious looking squares today, I stayed away from the coffee room thus avoiding seduction.

congrats pudpie!

on a day with work deadlines I had coffee in the afternoon, and fresh farmers market strawberries as a snack (yum). without this challenge the peet's pastry case may have been tempting.

thanks, all.

22 days now. Today I'm taking all the junk/desserts in my cabinets to work with me & giving it away. I figure since I'm no longer craving it, why keep it in the house? Fruit is satisfying my sweet tooth just fine. I never thought I would say this, but I just don't want it anymore. I'm not saying I'm giving up sweets permanently, but I'll probably just limit them to special/social occasions. I've also increased my protein, broken out of my plateau, and lost 3.5lbs since starting this challenge, so I'm feeling pretty damn good! Keep it up guys!

20 days no desserts.  Libertina, I like you idea of getting rid of the stuff and saving the sweets for occasions.   That is a very doable idea for my household.

Pudpie-it felt really good to get it out of the house, you wouldn't believe how much cabinet space I have now:)

woo hoo, libertina!! and congrats pudpie.

No dessert for me today.

I have another 1.5 days, and then it is passover and my month is over.

There will be lots of yummy food on passover, but not desserts.  Passover desserts are yucky, so minimal temptation there.
