Welcome to the **February** Challenge!

If you’ve participated before, welcome back for another month! To all those who have not done this challenge (or any other) welcome aboard newcomers!
If you are new, please tag this thread so that you can find your way back in the future.

The challenge is pretty easy & does NOT require a long-term commitment. You pick a goal weight, and post your progress each week. You are NOT in competition with the other challengers—in fact, you are encouraged to cheer each other on. This is about having a reason to stay motivated throughout the month’s weight loss journey and having a place to post your progress to help you stay on track--some "extra" accountability for your actions because you know you aren't the only one who will "see" the results.

We'll have 4 weekly weigh-ins for February plus the start. Our weekly weigh-in dates are February 8, 15, 22, and March 1, 2010 for final weigh in.

Weigh-in days are changed to Monday coinciding with the first of the month.

Normally, spreadsheet results will be posted within 24 hours after weigh in date and will appear as a link at the bottom of this post.

So! Sign up--Copy and paste the following form into a Reply message then enter your data. Join the party to happy and healthy losing; you can do it.

Add comments: I have been doing the Calorie Deficit challenge the last couple of months and have lost approx 4.5 per month.  Very happy with the results, but they did not post a new challenge for February, so here I am happy to join another Challenge.  I know they help keep me motivated.

I know I am posting early, but heading to Seattle and wont have time to post later.

Thank you soniadelgada for the heads up on the February Deficit challenge!  I was able to access it through your post.

Had a great time in Seattle...Maybe a little too good.  Back on track this week though.

ladychach, you'll see a slight gain when you first increase calories but 1500+ is a good target for you. Good luck.

jilliannaillij, 1200 cal are not enough for your body to work with. Check out Calorie Math reference for your stats.

funkykunky, try lowering your calories to 1500-1600 and see what happens for awhile.

dnhopkins, status quo is good during candy holidays. ;-)

cathylrose, you still show an overall loss for the month, so don't be too hard on yourself as you are back on track.

bahai99, one pound is heading in the right direction; keep it up.

jkub09, sometimes that happens. Evaluate your menu plan.

Well done everyone; keep on trying and losing. Here is some info about BMR.

So I just had a fitness evaluation and I lost almost 10 pounds but did not have a decrease in % body fat.  How is that possible?  Anyway, I was able to get my BMR - 1338, if I exercise my caloric intake should be 1838 calories.  So for the next round I am going to use that and target 1500-1600 calories.  I am going to keep "1200" for now in the blog, but I have never yet had a day with that many, I am usually closer to 1600-1800.  If you belong to a gym, ask if they can calculate your BMR for you, it was really easy.

Hi everyone,

This will be the last time I see my boyfriend before he's deployed to the middle east for at least a year (stupid war...). So I'll be cooking him some hearty food before he has to suffer the powder stuff in the desert.

I'm hoping to keep everything healthy and balanced but I do expect a calorie increase for the next week but hopefully slightly increase in activity too.

Wish me luck :)!

*Edited February 3rd to change the start date that I weighed in at on February 1st.*

*Added Feb 8th weight late, though it was what I weighed in at on the 8th - I wasn't on the computer much Monday/Tuesday and then went out of town for a couple days.*

*A bit of a disappointment to go up this weekend, but I know why and so I'm not too concerned. Spent two days in Seattle where I couldn't control sodium intake and well, let's face it, American foods are generally more... unhealthy than Canadian (especially cooking at home vs eating out) so I wasn't surprised to see a 4lb gain the morning after I got back. I've managed to get back down a bit but still retaining water from sodium and also it's TTOM. Looking forward to next Monday...*

*Did Feb 22nd weigh in a day early since tomorrow will be a bit crazy for me. I had a huge drop this week, but I knew I was weighing in higher than I should be last week. I just might hit my goal this month!*

If you lost weight but not body fat that means that you lost lean mass muscle.

Average daily calories means what you are actually eating; not the target. If you are not eating 1200, change it to 1600-1800.

Thanks for tip on BMR and good luck!

EDITED: to say that if you lost the 10# quickly it could be water weight so it depends upon the time frame between body fat measurements.

honeymustarr,  good loss and have a great week with your BF.

cassenyalogan, terrific and almost at goal; keep it up.

Hope everyone is eating healthily and ready for tomorrow's weigh.  Good Luck.

Comments: I set a 7 lb goal at the beginning of this month and I have actually dropped to 264 (8 lbs!).  Losing it so fast has had me a little concerned.  I decided to allow myself to do some cheating since I reached my goal already.  I'm just wondering whether or not I should try to drop another pound or two this week.  I'm scared of losing weight too fast though.  I've got a long way to go and I really would like to minimize the flabbiness as much as possible.  I've already got some flabbiness and it's not very pleasant to look at.  On the other hand, I am enjoying seeing and feeling less of me! I'd like to take off the next 20 lbs by May and another 45-50 by Christmas.  I figure that if I just keep doing what I've been doing for the last 9 months, I'll get there.

Sometimes I get depressed about what getting so fat has done to my body.  I was sitting here earlier looking at people who've had to have the flab surgically removed.  I'm afraid that I'm going to end up one of them.  It's a very painful procedure to have and I'm scared about that.  But for the most part, I'm getting more excited as time passes.  Throwing away my fat clothes is fun.  Buying new stuff is even more fun!  And most of all... It's just a wonderful thing to be able to live again!  I'm glad to be alive and glad I can sleep again.  And getting my health back is what it's all been about anyway!  So, I've made great strides there.
