"middle aged" folks want to drop around 10lbs (or more) by March 12?
Here is the short version of my story….I have dropped 90+ pounds over a couple of years and decided that my goal weight was 199. On 4/1/09, I hit my goal weight. After a month or two, I decided to drop to 190lbs. Well, I ended up at 185lbs and was very happy there. I went the summer cycling, hiking and mountain biking and felt great. I had been considering dropping another 5lbs to 179, but wasn’t sure. Anyway, I went on a cruise last week and even though I was careful, I managed to put on a few pounds and as of this morning the scales read 190lbs. My weight fluctuates through the week and since I typically weigh in on Friday, I am not convinced that I “gained” 5 pounds, but the scales say 190, so that is where I am starting. Since I figure I have to lose to get back to 185, I might as well take this opportunity to go on to 179lbs.
Basically just give us your name, age, current and goal weight as of 4/12/2010. We can weigh in on Friday AM.

Tammy - don't put yourself down...we all will go up and down. I went out to eat last night, then again tonight - to wonderful buffets!!! I've since gained 4 pounds since weighing in on Friday!!!! The food was wonderful and I ate what I wanted. I'll be working it off for the next couple of weeks. So, I'll support you with your weight gain, if you'll support me - in cheering each other on to take it off!!!! Tomorrow we'll just start over! Sharon
Yesterday was my son and my wife's birthdays. I had a piece of birthday cake. Some thing are just more important. ![]()
We all know it's your 10 food. Hope it was good. I love birthday cake too. Our next family birthday is the 29th of April Can't wait......in fact I have written on my calendar walk off another 100 calories each day the week before LOL
Yeah, I wasn't too concerned about it as I got in over 40miles on my bicycle the day before! Cold, rainy and in the 40s today, but 60-70s rest of the week!
Hi you guys, I know this thread says March 12th, but you seem to still be posting, and in my same boat. That's the "over 40, just a few pounds to go" cruiser. So are you still open?
I'm Jennifer, 5'9½", 156.8 lbs today on by way to 148. And I just broke a nail.
Hi Jennifer - we welcome all...sorry about your nail - hopefully it was doing something worthwhile!
Hi Jennifer. Welcome to our group. Glad you're with us. Sometimes we share ideas on what works for us. I've learned useful information from our friends here. I'd like to share my new thing that I found that helps me. After my morning oat meal, I drink a cup of Yogi's Blueberry Green Tea. I find that I'm more energized throughout the work day and more focused. After lunch, I drink Yogi's Healthy Fasting tea. It tastes really good. After dinner, I drink Yogi's Bedtime tea which makes for a very relaxing night of sleep. Seems like an excessive amount of tea to drink in one day but I love it. More importantly, I'm pretty sure they help suppress my appetite. Teas are available from my grocery stores in NC - Fresh Market, Harris Teeter and Lowe's Foods. Hopefully they're available where you live or maybe you can find something comparable. Just wanted to share. If you try it, let me know what you think.
Another issue and it's not such a big idea...you probably already know this...but if you're like me and have to have something sweet after lunch or dinner - instead of reaching for something I know is bad, I eat yogurt, in particular yoplait light. Their flavors are really good and it gives me the sugar fix I need.
I'm not trying to sell anything here, although I do sell Amway if anyone's interested...I'm just kidding. See you Friday.
Thanks Sharon and Tracy, glad to be here. Sharon, I'd love to say I broke my nail skiing (I live in Colorado; we always attribute our "injuries" to the slopes) but I don't ski, I was just sitting at the computer picking at it.
Tracy, I like tea and I know I can find Yogi's at King Soopers. I haven't ever tried any of the special ones except Celestial Seasonings Super-Sleepytime. That's not really the name, I can't remember it. It's got valerian in it. Once I tried Throat Coat for sore throats, it was disgusting. Do the ones you drink taste good? The blueberry sounds yummy, I'll look for that. Usually I buy Numi brand because it's "Organic, Full Leaf Teas, Fresh Herbs, and Real Fruits" with no "oils or flavorings to bolster flavor". (I'm not selling either
)
Sweets are not usually my problem, I have more of a salt-tooth. Is that a thing? We got a box of veggie straws in convenient 1 oz packages at Costco. It's my 130 calorie go-to snack if my dumb salad wasn't enough for lunch. I was going to look for some yogurt though, since the new analysis says I don't get enough calcium (!).
Nice to meet you both, good luck till Friday!
Hi Jennifer. Yes, I think the tea flavors I mentioned taste pretty good. Healthy Fasting is the best and I got my coworker hooked on it too. There are two other kinds I would NOT recommend...not crazy about Yogi's Lemon Ginger although it's tolerable but I was totally disgusted by Yogi's Detox tea. It wasn't even funny. I took one sip and that's all it took for me to throw the whole box in the trash. Then I couldn't sleep because I could smell it coming from my trash can. My husband got up in the middle of the night and took the trash out for me. That's how bad it was. Ok so don't get the one called "Detox". I like Celestial Seasonings too. Sometimes I'll take a bag of their Echinacea and a bag of the Yogi Bedtime for my after dinner drink. The two together taste great. I could go on and on about tea. I ramble anyway so don't get me started :). Luckily, I don't have a salt tooth but I have admitted on calorie count that I am a peanut butter junkie - get my salt fix there. Mustard on my sandwiches satisfies my need for salt too. I hear you about the calcium. I think another way we can get some calcium is by drinking Tropicana's 50% less sugar orange juice with the added calcium. Tastes watered down but you get used to it after a while. Going to drink some tea... :)
Dang Trace...you should be the Yogi's spokesperson!
Welcome Jennifer. Not sure who the dork was who put the date in the title of the thread, but I am glad you joined us. Great group of people.
So, I went for a nice ride tonight...had my FOURTH flat of the season. We got in just under 20miles. That puts me at 176 miles for the season so far! Feeling great and loving every minute of it.
Looking forward to Friday. Not so much because of weigh-in, but because I am leaving for my photo outing in the everglades!
Four flats?!?!?! and it's only March?!? I need to invest in tire repair kits.....![]()
Yeah...and the strange thing is that I rode the entire season last year without a single flat on my road or my mountain bike. We are talking around 2000 miles without a flat and now four in under 200 miles.
I think I need to take the rear wheel off and make sure there isn't a spur or something inside the wheel. Things are just too busy lately.
Time for a little R & R in the everglades!!!!!
Good morning all! Terry, thanks for letting me crash your thread. I was so happy to see a group of normal people (normal = like me, not sure if that's really a good definition, but there you go)! No offense to the kids, but I'm kinda tired of reading posts like: I'm 16 and NEED TO LOSE 2 POUNDS!!!! Shut up and go play, seriously.
OK, so I got Yogi Green Tea Pomegranate (Contains Powerful Antioxidants). I didn't find the Blueberry. I stared at the Peach Detox for a while, but got scared away by the warning that you shouldn't drink it for more than 30 days or something. Glad I didn't get it since you said it's awful, Tracy! I also got Celestial Seasonings White Tea Perfectly Pear and two of my ole' standbys; Numi Moroccan Mint and Rooibos. Although right now I'm drinking black coffee.
Got some calcium in my Cinnamon Toast Crunch and skim milk. I don't usually eat sugary cereals, but it satisfied my usually-dormant sweet tooth and it's fortified! and whole grain! whatever. Back to the old standby tomorrow; oatmeal with walnuts and a tsp of brown sugar.
Have a great day, everyone.
Welcome, jenotto! BTW, I'm in the Pueblo area. Gorgeous weather lately (but, sssshhhhh, don't tell ;) ). Loved your quote here:

I so relate! I love teas also, but I'm more of a coffee junkie. I have Yogi green tea pomegranate. Sweet....I like the yogurt and cereal for a sweet fix also.
My weight's been up lately (remember I'm 5-0, so if you think I'm being petty, consider that 127 is at the top of my healthy BMI). I was 128 Tuesday, 127 yesterday, and 125 today!!!Woohooo!! Heading in the right direction. I wanted to post that now, cuz I bet it will be up tomorrow, since I'm lifting today. The Amazing Karnac predicts....
Hi Tammy,
Could it still snow in Pueblo? I'm in Longmont and it could totally still snow here, so I won't jinks it by mentioning the nice weather :) At least that last round melted in a day! I can deal with that.
Coffee is my first love, I'm having a plain non-fat latte right now! Tea is my afternoon beverage of choice. I'm going to try the Celestial Seasonings White Tea Perfectly Pear today.
YAY for 125! The Amazing Karnac obviously knows her body. I would like to mention my new low of 155.3 today also, since it's the second day in a row (therefore not a fluke) plus I'm throwing in a cheat meal at lunch today, just in time to ruin a good Friday weigh-in weight. I'll follow the rules and weigh in tomorrow but just thought I'd, you know, mention it. Today is treadmill day for me so maybe, just maybe, it will even out. I'll let you know tomorrow!
Good luck tomorrow everyone.
Hey there y'all. Trying my southern thang as I am packing up to head south this afternoon. Had a pretty good week. Got in a bunch of riding, has some birthday cake, ate "normal" and ended up at 182lbs again this week. I feel good about it and plan to gradually work my way down to 179lbs this summer and see how I look/feel. Ran into my Aunt that I hadn't seen in a few years. She asked if I had weight loss surgery.
I her it was just diet and exercise. She didn't believe me and said that people "just don't lose weight" like that. Oh well....can't help a mind that is firmly closed. ![]()
Terry - 182lbs - no change
126.0 today-See, I knew it would go up!! Karnac sees all....
Terry, sounds like you're really enjoying yourself and maintaining. That's success IMO. Weight loss surgery?!!! I guess it's a backhanded compliment. I don't know if she thought YOU didn't have the willpower to do it or if she thought NO ONE IN EXISTENCE has the willpower! LOL You're such an inspiration.
I hope all of you've had success this week, in one form or another. :)
How come when ever I have a fun week, I gain weight??? I got together with family and added 2 .5 pounds to my weight - oh well.....it always seems to be so easy to put on, then takes twice as long to get it back off!!!
Terry - have a great vacation...I need one!
Tammy - maybe we should start weighing in on Thursday! ![]()
Sharon - 146
Happy Friday, all!
Terry, good attitude about your Aunt's comment. Forget all the rest and remember that she was stunned by your awesome achievement. Have a great photo vacation!
I love how everyone here values living, and fits weight loss into life rather than letting it take over.
Today I'm 155.5, down 1.4 ![]()
