Average shoulder width for a woman- what's yours?

Quote  |  Reply

I know it sounds kinda weird but I always wondered what the average shoulder width for a woman is. I'm not sure where I compare; mine are about 14-17 inches (think it was 15/16 but not too sure seeing as I lost my measuring tape).

So I looked everywhere to find anyone who might've asked this same question but have had no luck.  BTW, my frame size is medium and I have a mesomorph build somewhat. 5'11" too if that makes a difference.

So, please, tell your height, your shoulder width, your frame size.

Gosh, I feel so weird but I just have to know. Laughing It helps me feel much better about myself if I know I'm normal for a woman.

Hmm, I had a little bit of trouble doing this and ended up measuring from the front; don't know if that makes a difference or not.  Anyway, mine were about 17-18.  I'm 5'10".  I don't know how to classify my frame size; according to this site I am small-framed because my middle finger and thumb overlap when I wrap them around my wrist, BUT I think that just means I have long fingers! Haha.  I have always considered myself to be a tall, big-boned fat ass; my rib cage is shaped like a barrel, I have broad hips and shoulders and big, wide feet...

Good idea for a topic!

Don't worry - I think you're more normal than I am! My shoulder width is 19" - I'm 5'6" and according to the wrist test I'm small frame. It kind of sucks because when I buy button-down shirts, the smalls fit fine EXCEPT they're too small in the shoulders of course! So I always have to go up a size. I'd be curious as to what's normal, too...

Mine are about 17". I am only 5'4". For the wrist tests I've done online it says I have a small frame because my wrists are 5.75" (did the fingers test, but I have freakishly long fingers so wasn't sure if that was accurate). I have no problems with fitting into shirts, only jackets that fit everywhere else can be kind of constricting in the shoulders. I also have a really broad ribcage compared to my chest (32" chest, 29" ribcage). Is this true for anyone else? it makes it hard to find dresses that fit.

mine are 17/18 inches and im 5ft 3 i concider myself quite broad, but with a small frame if that makes any sence. my bones are quite small but i do have broad shoulders in relation to the rest of me... especially in comparison to my height.

Tbh i've always though i had the chest/shoulders of a much taller person ... i think i got mixed up when they where handing out legs because mine are to short to go with this torso haha.

16", small frame (according to wrist size of 5.7"), 5'6" tall.

16.5" medium frame, 5'10''

18" shoulder width - I am 5'7" and weigh 165 (that sounds bad, but actually I am only 26% body fat which is only slightly higher than it should be) - I am basically build like an Amazon - lol.  I used to wish I was petite, but I am what I am :)

I'm 5'4'' with 14 inch shoulders.I look so tiny.Like i'm 12,

20.5" from the front, more like 22-23 from the back. I'm 5'9, 155 pounds, 19% body fat and small framed (wrist is 6"). Like an above poster, it sometimes makes buying shirts tough, if it fits across my shoulders it's way too big in the waist, and vice verse. I stick with tank tops and raglan sleeves for the most part, although some brands do cut for broad shoulders (athleta, lululemon, etc). At the end of the day I wouldn't trade my broad shoulders for anything though. I love them!

5'1 small frame (wrist 5 3/4")

From the front: 17"

From the back: 19"

And I'm only ~100 lbs! But that's what I get from being a swimmer...

But like the above poster(s), it makes it difficult to find shirts that fit.

5'9 large frame.

front = 23"

back= 26"

250 pounds, not proud of this, but i don't look my weight or size at all!

Oh well, my parents got me started in a gym when i was 9 years old. I play rugby, volleyball, soccer, tackle football. I love sports! lol

Not much i can do about it. =/

Same here!!! I am glad you posted this! Growing up my mom always tole me my shoulders were very broad. And that my shoulders would make football players cry. So I had a huge complex about my shoulders. I am 5.1 shoulder width 15-16 inches and small frame size. 121 lbs. And measurements hour glass 35-28-35. Apparently our shoulders are not as broad as we thought. This discussion board made me feel a lot better about my broad shoulders. :)

i

I think I did this properly ;)  I got about 17" at 5'7" with a medium-large frame.

Yea, I'm not sure if mine is right...I got 13.5 inches, I'm 5'4. My wirst size is around 4.5 inches, so I think I have a small frame?

its sexy with broad shoulders...:)  dont worry...and if you play rugbe you proberly need them...im just 15.5 inches wide....think about that..:)

This is a really interesting thread. People have told me that i have a small frame and people have said this at a higher weight than i am now also. When my sports teacher at school told me i was an ectomorph i was like i don't believe it. Although my measurements fall within the small category i have very long fingers and also i feel that my shoulders are fairly  broad in proportion to the rest of me.  I don't have wide hip bones/pelvis and my legs are relatively long in proprotion to my height. I'm surprised though as i was thinking my shoulders were fairly wide but according to this there not at all.

This surprises me too. Mine shoulders are about 13-14 , and I always thought I was broad shouldered too - (hard to measure on your own!!), I'm 5' 7", 110 (still gaining a bit more) lbs, and definitely ectomorphic.

.

17.5/18 !!!!!!!!
I'm 5'1", 115 lb,
wrist: 5.3inches,
Regular hip area: 37 inches
wide hips: 39/40 inches at the widest lowest hip/thigh area,
Waist: 27inch,
Below the bust: 29,
Bust: 35 inch
and a small azz head by comparison :(

Happy thoughts: Wish, for a longer neck, smaller hips and a bigger looking head or smaller shoulders. :)
