its 2 am and i can't sleep!

Quote  |  Reply
 It's 2:09 am..and I'm tossing and turning! I ate some broccoli with a little bit of tabbouleh at 12 am...after having half a pita with hummus and tabbouleh and about a cup of broccoli and brussel at about 8:30 pm...should I eat something to put me to sleep? I'm exhausted but I can't even tell if I'm hungry. My ED hasn't allowed me to feel my hunger cues and my intuitive eating is completely thrown off.
What do I do?

Take a warm (not hot) bath or shower, try to sleep then.

Maybe have a cup of tea (no caffeine though) and something small like a piece of toast. Try to distract yourself from "TRYING" to fall asleep and do something else for a while.. maybe read a real boring book. Listen to soothing music. but definitely get off the computer because the light from the screen will keep you awake.

edit;

oh another thing that helps you fall asleep is a hot shower or bath. you warm your body up and then the sudden drop in temperature after you get out is a natural cue for your body to prepare for sleep.

or two shots of say vodka...  *shrug*

haha eighteen...shmeighten...I had about 2 glasses of wine earlier!
sorry...teens : /

damn 18...   its alot like driving a car, if you turn the key on your own before you're 16 the car wont start... just like an 18 year old can't pour a shot.... I ALWAYS FORGET THAT LOL ^_^;;

lol.. well I'm not going to comment because I'm 18 and I don't want to be a hypocrite. I will point out though that alcohol does help you get to sleep initially but then it disrupts your sleep later on and it keeps you from going into a deep restful sleep throughout the night. I know that from reading.. not personal experience..so might want to keep it as a last resort anyway

Meh if i have to get up early i will take two shots or one strong drink and its enough to make me fall asleep easier and i dont wake up till the alarm goes off and im fully rested.... screw sleeping pills get a bottle of Crown.

Okay, the BEST WAY to fall asleep is:

Drink a warm glass of milk with honey in it.

Seriously!

Ignore the age issue.

Drinking to put you to sleep is the first step towards alcoholism.

I dunno... I like to have a glass of wine before bed, and it does help me sleep. But I wouldn't really recommend it for someone who is underage, particularly if the drinking age is 21 where you are. I'm not sure i agree that it means you're becoming an alcoholic though.

Totally second this! It is the best trick around, and sooooo soothing too. Just sweet enough to take care of any cravings.

when i can't sleep i drink sleepytime tea and read in bed.

Drinking while underage is not illegal, it's purchasing alcohol or serving alcohol to an under 21 who is not your child that is illegal.  If your parents are fine with your drinking a hot toddy as an occasional (once a month or so) sleep aid, then you're fine.  If they aren't, don't do it.  I agree with gp, alcohol over sleeping pills.  If it takes more than 2 shots or this is more than an occasional method, then it's time to review your drinking habits.

Generally uncaffeinated warm tea will tend to make you sleepy.  Add a bit of honey and lemon to it for flavoring, particularly if you're adding a shot to it.  I'd avoid drinking the straight shots, it can be a bit hard on your system and it usually tastes nasty.  Maybe nibble a bit of something like toast, but don't have your stomach full, just a bit of something in it.

Nothing to do with the original question, but 21 is only the drinking age in America. It's quite possible that it might not even apply to her...

Edit: never mind, she does live in the US

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
