Sorry to be blunt, but I eat a lot of broccoli and a lot of beans lately. I haven't broken any more wind than normal. The only time I managed to let something out the past three days was in the bath tub three hours ago.

Does this mean I'm unhealthy? Are broccoli and beans simply not a farting food for me? Hell, Alex smells a bean and rips for the rest of the night, why don't I?

It's because I'm a girl, right? So much crap about girls never farting.. Bull.

lmfao gross

lmfao, serious question, serious responses appreciated.  Thanks.

I think as long as you are having fairly regular bowel movements you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

The passing of gas in the instances you mentioned above, results from eating a diet high in soluble fiber which is broken down by bacteria into gaseous side products. Maybe it just hasn't passed the threshold of enough soluble fiber for you to notice a difference.

The title makes me laugh.

I heard beans and broccoli only cause gas for people who aren't used to eating them. If you eat them regularly for a long time, all side effects disappear because your body adjusts.

i honestly think that being gassy is hereditary.  some ppl just don't pass that much gas.  i know it isn't very scientific but i seriously think it's true.
I once heard that the healthiest people fart 15 to 16 times a day; I think it was a myth... not sure about that. Hahah.

Anyway, on a serious note, I agree with meleba. People who aren't used to eating healthful foods and lots of fiber are typically the ones with more gas issues.
That would be cool beans and all, but this past week is the first time I've had beans in.. uh.. fourteen years?

It's not fair.  My mom farts like there's no tomorrow, my dad farts like there's no tomorrow, everyone from my mom's side of the family farts regardless of what they eat.  I put the Poles to shame because I can't fart and I'm a lightweight with alcohol.

I don't think it's a myth.  I mean, who knows how much we do when we sleep at night?  According to my hubby that's all I do all night long *snicker*  I don't know any different.

I'll send you some of mine.  I eat beans fairly often, and I'm deadly to be around after some of those, or after hot dogs, or after a bunch of things.

I agree that there's a hereditary thing too.  I've always been gassy, much to my brother's disgust when we were riding in the back seat to visit relatives.

I will have to ask my friend georgia how to get you gassed up, moly.  the girl blows me away.

LOL I love farts! My farts are more funky than they ever used to be. Usually my farts didn't really stink but now they do. Sometimes I'll wake up in the morning and have the longest loudest fart ever. It goes on for about 5 seconds and I'm thinking "this must be a world record" Wait a minute...I Think I'll look up the record for the longest fart....I gotta fart right now as I type....*pppplllttttt" LMAO!!

i don't know whether to laugh or run away from you stinky people.  it's bad enough i have to deal w/ my boyfriend's farts!!
cellulitedelight, maybe you don't fart because your system has already get used to eating a lot of fiber. try to google online and see if farting is a healthy thing to worry about?? I don't know.
I've googled, I've checked books, I've asked Alex (who knows nothing specifically about health but does know a lot of random facts) and I've asked Momma (a nurse and medical assistant).  Nobody can tell me why I'm not farting.  Alex tried convincing me I'm healthy as a horse but a little wind would make me feel a lot better about myself.

My happiest memories were of farting in the shower and since I started upping my fiber, my showers have gotten so boring. :(

I've been vegetarian for about 15 years, eat lots of beans broccoli etc etc and this particular side effect has NOT disappeared.  However, I do come from what we all agree is a windy family.

Now if you're not pooping, that's something to fret about.

CD, I love you and your posts are always great, but this may have been one of the weirdest things I've heard from you! (can't wait to see picts of your tiara and wedding dress, not to mention the wedding itself!)

seriously - have you changed anything else in your diet? more base-PH foods to counter-act the gas producing byproducts??? Less soda? better chewing/less air swallowing? do you eat meat w/vegs/legumes? less dairy?

when you find out why, please post-- i want to bottle your non-gas-reason for my husband who passes gas at least 16 times an hour-- even during dinner at the table--

my poor little dog thinks that his fart is the new command for her to come... bc he's constantly blaming/exclaiming with zest "nala!" everytime he does it loudly-- the dog is literally trained to come at the sound of a fart now!

as far as hereditary- no research on it but i tend to agree- my dtr and i almost died at christmas with the gas exchages at my husband's family house- esp his mom! it was CRAZY esp in the morning around there!

lmao-- this *is* funny...  i needed the giggle & am curious as to your low flow of flatulance...

Oh I haven't laughed so much in ages, I literally have tears running down my cheeks.

My partner is lethal as well and I refuse to feed him broccoli at all as I can't sit in the same room as him if I did. I blame it on the fact that he eats very fast (probably afraid that I'll snatch his food) and takes in a lot of air with his food.

lmao. That's the funniest thing I've heard all day. Seriously. But you know, it's probably hereditary or diet-related. I used to be one gassy gal, but then I realized that I was lactose intolerant (well, my parents did, I was only 5 and not really old enough to come to any solid medical conclusions) and that took care of that problem. But the opposite issue? You got me.

Do you burp a lot?

As was said before, number one is to worry about having regular bowel movements.  If you're poopin', your good.

If you're not feeling any gas pressure, bloating, or other stomach discomfort, then I would say you're just not a farter.

If you are experiencing chronically uncomfortable or infrequent bowel movements or not farting despite having abdominal problems listed above, I would go see your doctor.  Otherwise, I guess I'm jealous of your lack of gas!  ;)
