What did you eat pre-ED?

Quote  |  Reply

Thought it would be interesting if we could all remember what we ate before ED came in to our  lives, hopefully help prove to us that we were much happier that way, weren't hugely overwight and ate pretty much what we wanted?!

In my early teens I was a skinny kid with a naturally fast metabolism. I pretty much ate the same things every day, because I was a fussy eater who did not like a wide variety of foods.

B - Pint of chocolate milk with a couple eggo waffles

L - Can of chef boyardee ravioli and pack of ramen noodles

S - 3-4 servings of goldfish crackers

D - A whole 12" pizza / Large serving of pasta / box of kraft mac n' cheese

Despite all of the high calorie foods I remained skinny. When I began to have thoughts about running track at the beginning of my junior year of high school, my food intake drastically changed. I wanted to eat foods that would help my performance rather than hinder it. I slowly became more and more obsessive over what I ate and how much I exercised. The sad thing is now, with my binging issues, I'd rather go back in time and be 14 again. :(

Unfortunately, pre ED for me Is age 10 :/ but these are things that seem to stick in my mind:

- Walkers crisps

- Haribo Starmix

- Hot chocolate (especially options orange flavour)

- Magic stars (chocolate stars by Cadbury I think... They used to have names XD I remember I had a friend who would come to my house every other teusday and visa versa the other weeks. Her name was Jess, and there was a packet called Jess star! Awwwwww.... XD)

- lucozade

- jam doughnuts

So yeah, no meals just random snack foods. Good thing is, I still eat all of these things! :D
Ugh...the good old days :)

I honestly can't really remember what I ate before this ED toon over my life..

I remember having hot dogs and whole chocolate bars as snacks though :D Wish I could go back :/

I hate to admit but I do not think I ever had a 'pre-ED' time. I've always been odd about food ever since I think I was 5 or 6.

The funny thing is, that it’s quite hard to remember. Not because it’s such a long time ago, but because, back then, I didn’t think about what I ate. I just ate. A lot.

  • Kellog’s Special K
  • Choco pops
  • Milk
  • Whole wheat bread
  • Yogurt
  • Fish and meat
  • Pasta

Not extremely bad or anything, but I did eat a lot. Not compared to my binges nowadays though.

Pre-ED, I actually was mildly overweight. Not obese or anything, but a little chunky. I ate a lot of junk food, ate when I was bored, and that was actually how I ate for all of my life(yet I remained at a healthy weight). It wasn't until I was taken out of dance class and horseback riding that I started putting on some excess pounds.

But anyway, this is how I remember a typical day being like when I was about 11 years old, and in 5th grade:

Breakfast: I skipped it or sometimes drank a hot chocolate made with whole milk

Snack: Bag of mini muffins, a kiwi, and 1/2 a bottle of vitamin water

Lunch: Thermos filled with white rice(I went CRAZY over rice and pasta back then), the last of the vitamin water, a churro, and nachos with cheese

2nd Lunch(sometimes I'd still be hungry when I got home!): Wendy's grilled chicken sandwich, french fries, and a frosty float

Dinner: Whatever it was that my mom made. I'd always eat a ton of meat and starch, but never even touched the veggies I was given :S

...holy ****ing cow! I never realized how much I ate back then! And it was all a bunch of crap too. Now breakfast is my biggest meal, I can't stand the taste of vitamin water, just smelling those mini muffins makes me feel nauseous, I barely eat rice anymore, I haven't had fast food in over 6 months, and now 1/2 of my dinner plate usually consists of veggies! Wow, what a difference

And I remember a lot of times at night while watching TV, I'd scarf down almost an entire bag of tortilla chips! Also, when we went to this nearby japanese restaurant I'd always eat a whole bunch of these fried chips they'd serve you, I'd eat 3-4 steamed dumplings, sometimes I'd eat an appetizer of fried tofu by myself in addition to that, and for main course I'd eat chicken satay in peanut sauce, and TWO bowls of white rice. lol back then I must have eaten like 3000-3500 cals a day XD

But then after I started doing a little more exercise, lost weight, and right before I had my ED, my diet was more like this:

Breakfast: skipped, or sometimes ate a bowl of granola

Lunch: Wendy's grilled chicken sandwich, sprite, cesar side salad

Snack: a pear

Dinner: 1 or 2 slices of pizza with a large glass of sweetened iced tea

...but during this time I was actually losing weight. This was only like 1500-1600 cals probably. I think I made my metabolism pretty suppressed right here

Pre eating disorder when I was around 13 I would eat like a horse!. I ate loads of carbs!!......

* a massive bowl of any cereal I fancied with loads of milk

* a whole big bag of diritos with a tub of sour cream and chive dip

* a large chips from the takeaway, drenched in tomato sauce with a giant nan bread. I'd get through a tub of tomato ketchup in a week!

* a whole easter egg in one day at easter

* near enough a whole pack of chocolate digestives with a mug of tea with 3 sugars

* A huge plate of pasta covered in grated cheese, with garlic bread

* I used to love having a pudding after dinner, sticky toffee pudding and custard/ strawberry jam sponge pudding/ lemon cheesecake/ jam rolly polly

* for lunch I'd always have a packet of crisps with my sandwich, it would feel wrong to me if I didn't have crisps haa

* I'd enjoy anything my mum had cooked for dinner

* drink full sugar juice

* I'd go to the market and have a massive pick & mix and eat the whole bag

* I'd eat what was given to me, whether it be healthy or unhealthy

* I'd always want a takeaway at the weekend

* I used to exercise for the pure fun of it, I'd love running, dance, gymnastics, ballet, netball

Typing that has made me realise just how care free I was when it came to food. I'd eat whatever I wanted without even knowing what a calorie was!. I'd say I ate at least 3000 calories a day, if not more. My BMI was only 21-21.5 when I ate like this! :O. All I needed to do was cut back a tiny bit, and I would have lost weight so quickly ... stupid ED!

I have been thinking about this and it has been hard because i think my eating was disorderd ever since i started secondary school when i was 12. So this would be a normal day when i was about eleven.

Weekdays:

B- A big bowl of cereal or granola with ss milk OR two pieces of toast with nutella/ jam. a banana.

S- Some type of cereal or chocolate bar at breaktime.

L: A huge cheese flavoured roll or a bagel with cheese/ tuna mayo and sweetcorn/ egg mayonaise. a packet of crisps and a piece of fruit

S: 1 or 2 pieces of toast with nutella/ two biscuits and a cup of tea.

D: whatever my mum was making. shepards pie/ lasagne/ tortalini/ curry with rice. and a yogurt.

S: A mug of hot chocolate with milk.

Weekends:

B: Saturday would just be cereal or toast and on sunday we always had crossiants. I had about two or three with butter and jam.

S: a banana.

L: leftover pizza/ A big ciabatta roll (usually two) filled with cheese/ tuna mayo/ egg mayonaise. and a packet of crisps, a yogurt and a piece of fruit.

S: chcolate and banana milkshake/ some cake that i had baked. always baked on the weekends/ toast and nutella

D: same as weekdays. whatever my mum was cooking

P: We only had pudding on sundays and it would be something like: treacle sponge/ pineapple upsidedown cake/ crumble/ icecream.

S: Hot chocolate made with milk.

I would give anything to have this back and not care what i was eating. I couldent have been more than bmi 20 either.

this was honestly so hard to think of, because even a few years leading up to it i probably had ed tendancies...or maybe not. its hard to tell, but the years before i was focused on food, i think i always have been. so this might be like age 12 and under...i swam competitively so maybe that's why i didn't worry as much?

breakfast: during the week either a hot cereal with family (cream of wheat, red river, oatmeal 1/3 cup serving) with brown sugar and 2% milk, fruit or fruit juice and possibly a pieces of whole wheat toast, margarine + honey? or a cup of cereal (shreddies, bran flakes, rice krispies, just right cereal...we weren't allowed the very sugary cereals lol but we'd often put like a tsp of white sugar on top) with 1/2 banana/grapefruit/oranges or juice + one pieces ww toast with margarine + honey or cinnamon toast...i was not allowed to have just cereal though, i remember that. i guess because i just had a regular serving but i always just wanted cereal lol but my dad would be like NO you need toast and cereal.

on the weekends or some week days something special like french toast (ww bread i guess 2 pieces with normal egg/milk ratio for french toast) and topped with maple syrup and fruit or fruit juice...or pancakes (white flour i guess) made with milk, and topped with maple syrup + a bit of butter/marj (i was always okay with that, not now though) and fruit or juice...or eggs (scrambled, soft boiled or 'fried') with 1-2 pieces toast + juice/fruit.

snacks: always had a morning and then an after-school snack, but i think that's partly because school allotted time for that, so especially when i was little it was mandatory. and when i was in grade 7+ some kids didn't, i think that's when i started to feel self-conscious if i did...but i'd have a small granola bar and a juice box usually. and after school, if i had swimming then a granola bar or something left from lunch and juice, and if i was coming home, a glass of 2% milk and maybe 2 cookies  (small, for a treat) or a cereal/granola bar? but if i wasn't hungry then i guess i might not have anything.

lunch: sandwich (whole grain bread) with either peanut butter and jam (when we were allowed pb in school) but otherwise homemade egg-salad (with mayo, eggs, celery?) or ham/turkey and cheese (cheddar or swiss) and a bit of margarine maybe? and then two cookies or something for 'dessert', a fruit, milk in a little container/cup :P...lots of kids had more junky stuff and i'd always be like mom, why do i have to have 'healthy' sandwiches but i honestly am grateful for it now. once and a while i could order pizza (like one slice) on pizza day, but that was very rarely. or on 'milk' days a white or perhaps chocolate. we were never allowed chocolate milk, just like white milk with that nestle stuff mixed in which i hated because my mom would never put much so i was like halfway there...worse than white i think. i didn't mind milk but it was just a 'necessity', like 3 glasses a day type of thing.

dinner: lots of options...homemade macaroni and cheese (rarely), sundays would be roast-beef evening with mashed or roasted potatoes and broccoli or a fresh veggie. weekdays, also an option could be homemade lean beef 'patties' (ew hate that word) with caramelized onions (didn't like that when i was little so probably not then, btu i remember my dad would make them together in a pan) and roasted potatoes with cauliflower or broccoli. lol i'd play and pretend the meet was the 'rock' or something, the veggies the trees and the potatoes...idk something else. oh with ketchup. or chicken breast with potatoes and veggie. or a pork/chicken 'stir-fry' with fresh veggies and rice. im not sure if we had brown, i think i just introduced that to the fam when i became like health-conscious and now we all love it.

dessert: often just after dinner, but now i like waiting. but it would be ice cream with a sauce, or something healthier, my mom would slice banana, sprinkle with a touch of white sugar and pour milk on top. or maybe a homemade banana bread or lemon loaf if my mom made some?

im sure this is dead boring for anyone to read ;P

................

to embarrassed. edited.

Before I started obsessing over calories etc, I really just ate whatever I wanted. I miss it! And the funny part was, I was always on the skinny side. I just want to get it back.

Breakfast: cereal with milk usually, coffee with half and half

Snack: a packet of cookies from school

Lunch: peanut butter and jelly sandwich (whole), small Gatorade, apple, serving of cookies, small bag of chips/ pretzels

Snack: yogurt, some candy or cookies

Dinner: whatever my mom cooked. Usually some kind of chicken with veggies and a roll with butter. Milk

Dessert: ice cream and cookies!

It doesn't sound like too much.. I hope I can get back there :)
