Can eating disorders prevent you from growing taller?

Quote  |  Reply

I've had an eating disorder for a couple of years now, my lowest weight being around 85 pounds, my heaviest about 115. I am 5'5 and weigh 103 currently, I really want to be taller because I want to get into modeling and I think I heard somewhere you have to be 5'8 or something to even qualify, since I seem to be quite naturally slim.. I know I'm still a little underweight though but I'm working on it.. but is it true once you get an ED like anorexia any chances of growing taller are impossible? I'm 15

I wouldn't say any chance of growing is impossible, but it depends how old you are. Most girls stop growing at 13-14 years old.

I had anorexia when I was 14 and 5'5, then I recovered at 17 I shot up 2 inches!

oh...another one of these posts.

1.) yes, ED's stunt your growth as well as destroy your bones, organs, skin, hair, etc-no use being a model if your hair is falling out and your skin is irreparably dry.

2.) IF you properly recover, you MIGHT grow taller; however this is dependent on genetics.

3.) modeling is not all that its cracked up to be (in fact, it kinda sucks). Long hours, little pay, short career (most girls age out by the time they are 18-20), and creepy predators everywhere.

4.) the minimum height requirement is 5'8", at least at reputable agencies that place girls on runways/ in catalogs.

How tall are both of your parents and if you know both of your grandparents too?

I believe you can do print modeling at shorter heights. My cousin did it and she's barely 5'4". Kate Moss is 5'7". But that's rare. If that's your dream go for it. But you will never be able to live the demanding life of a model if you are sick and unhealthy. Get your health back!

Nowadays most girls start out at around 13-14. 18 is old. I`m talking about Fashion here. I know for a fact that elite hardly ever looks at girls below 5ft 9-10.
