I am on a diet right now but I always am craving sweets and other unhealthy foods, well it gets to the point where i HAVE to have them but i cant swallow it. Instead i chew it and then spit it out. I just recently started doing this and my friend found out i was doing this and she said it was an ED. is it???? If this is bad then how do i stop? And can it help me lose weight??? Ahh

I do it because if i was to swallow it i would feel SO guilty and fat!
But i do eat normal i just do this for the candy so im healthy
it isnt an ED but a sign of one. you should stop as you will take in calories from chewing as digestion begins as soon as the food is in your mouth. you should probably talk to a specialist as you may well be in the early stages of an ED. this isnt a good habit to get into and you should really stop before it gets worse xx

You have a history of severe restriction, you are at a healthy weight (or so you say), and you won't allow yourself a treat now and then?

Sorry hun, but you are not recovered yet, you probably won't be for a while. You do not yet have a good relationship with food, and this post is a good example of your remaining fear of it. You should be eating at least 1800 and probably more than 2000 calories a day. Your weight will increase a little initially, then it will even out as your body realizes it can get what it needs from you. Treats, even sweets or fatty foods, are fine. Just because it's not healthy doesn't mean you can't indulge once in a while. Just count it and give yourself the satisfaction of eating it. Restriction will lead to more cravings, which will lead to binging to give your body the nutrients it needs.

i think i do eat around 1800 calories, im not sure because im really trying to stay away from counting calories because it makes me want to eat less. And im not lying, i really am at a healthy weight!! But every since i decided to get better And actually eat, well iv noticed im getting fatter! But i get plenty of exercise!!! Idk its really confusing but i cant eat candy its very bad for you!!!! But i desperately want it but i cant actually eat it!!!

But wait if i chew it and then spit it out,,,, i still get the calories?? Whoa what!!!!! ?? So im actually getting all the fat and calories and sugar!??????
I cant have an ED! My friend made me ask on here!! And im over it i know i dont have one . Im sure other ppl do it too

You have an ED. You are not completely recovered. Everybody keeps telling you that you need help and it goes in one ear and out the other. Stop with the drama and dangerous eating habits and get help.
Im being truthful... I may have weird eating habits but they have gotten way better since the beginning of the year! I still have a fear for some foods but i try not to let that stop me from eating, i just eat healthier foods when im hungry. If any of this makes sense, idk. But my friend told me or should i say made me put this on here because she wanted to see if she was right. Please im listening to everyones advice and im not " creating drama" im just trying to get answers!!!!!!!!!! I have so many issues and im working them out with the help of this!

Chewing and spitting out food is a symptom of having an ED. No everyone definitely does not do this. On top of it being unhealthy, it is gross.

You DO have an ED.

Get help.

And I mean professional help. What you ate going is not healthy eating. Candy can be part of a healthy diet in moderation. You should enjoy a piece of candy every now and then, and move on.
I do that too. Ish. I have an ED.

http://www.disordered-eating.co.uk/disordered -eating/chewing-and-spitting.html

On the surface, chewing and spitting may not seem like a very harmful thing to do, but it is linked to food deprivation as the type of food being spat out is rarely actually eaten. Although cravings for it can be strong, the food spat out is considered ‘bad’. Chewing and spitting can also invoke a sense of waste and guilt about the food that is quite literally being wasted.

Chewing and spitting out sugary foods can still do damage to teeth, perhaps even more so, as the quantities of sugar ending up in the mouth are larger than if food was actually swallowed and eaten properly.

There’s nothing good about depriving your body of the food it needs. Food that ends up in the mouth should be swallowed. Rather than chewing and spitting out certain types of foods, it’s better to actually eat them in moderation.

In order to break the habit of chewing and spitting, it is advisable to seek help from a trained professional who has experience of treating eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia.

Noone on here can diagnose you with an eating disorder (atleast they shouldn't) Any disordered eating needs to be addressed by a trusted parent a doctor and possibly a therapist.  Stop asking if you have an ED or if your fat etc etc. Honestly, its getting a bit repetitive and personally i find it super triggering to read as i'm sure many others do. Once or twice, OK. but to ask over and over and over the same question with a different title. I understand needing that validation, but really? you have alot of disordered habits as you have realized aren't the usual for a normal, healthy person. You need to reach out for some help before you get any deeper. You think its bad now? Just wait, it only gets worst.

in this case, should people stop eating chewing gum? and i bite my nail, its difficult  to stop.

Anyway, ED is actually disordered thinking rather than what you weigh. at a healthy weight you can still have ED. being obsessed with food, the way you look, calories etc etc. is symptoms of ed i think.

Well if I saw you chew up food and spit it out over and over yes I would think that there is something mentally wrong with you. Go to a doctor or get help from a qualified person, going on the Internet for a diagnosis is not help. This type of post just gives ideas to others with the same mental issues
