Feeling sick while trying to eat breakfast (not pregnant) why?

Quote  |  Reply

I've just recently started working out and dieting, I'm currently 160lbs and 5'1. I was told to consume approx 1300 calories a day. When I try to eat breakfast I feel like I'm full so quickly and sometimes I'll gag trying to finish what I made. For example this morning I had 3/4 a cup of activia yogurt mixed with about 4 ounzes of pineapple, is it possible the reason I feel sick in the morning is that I'm eating too much sugar first thing or eating to soon after I wake up? I eat about 20 minutes after I get up, working at 6am, lunch isn't normally until 11, so I would be starving if I waited until then to eat.  Also I've been feeling like there's a rock in my stomach the last few days, I don't know how to explain it, it feels like I'm hungry but when I try to eat I feel way to full.........................is there something specific that I may be eating to much (or not enough of) that could be causing that? Or is it possible it's just my body getting used to not being packed full of junk because I used to be able to eat a lot more and not feel this way?

A typical day (Always drink at least 8 glasses of water)

Breakfast

3/4 cup of activia yogurt, 4 ounzes of pineapple

snack

1/2 cup of 1% cottage cheese

1/2 of a green bell pepper

Lunch

Whole wheat tortilla with 2 slices of turkey, teaspoon of mustard, loose leaf lettuce, one slice of mozarella

Kiwi

Snack

Lettuce wrapped one slice of turkey

Dinner

Tomato and Red Pepper Soup (120 cal), 1 slice of whole wheat toast with 3 hard boiled egg whites on it only.

1 glass of v8 juice

Snack

100 calories pack of popcorn

P.S Sorry this is so long!!

this might sound gross but.... maybe that rock in your tummy is that you need to potty more.

i have a hard time eating breakfast right away.  i tend to wait for at least an hour or so before i eat, ESPECIALLY if i eat late at night I am very not hungry in the morning.  also-- i have noticed that milk products in the morning arent great for me.

maybe try a low cal english muffin (good fiber! 110 cal) to munch on in the morning then have the pineapple or the yogurt a little bit later.

what is your calorie intake?  eyeballing it it seems a little low too.
what about fiber - how many grams of fiber are you getting?
i used to have this problem but my body got used to eating after a while.
I prefer to graze in the morning rather than eat a meal all at once.
i've always had a similar problem.  i didn't eat breakfast for years...for the past 4 years, i've been having a stonyfield yogurt smoothie about an hour or so after i wake up.  you drink it, so it's a lot easier to consume, and easy enough to throw in your bag while you head out the door.  now, i usually compliment it with a cliff zbar.  it takes about an hour for me to eat/drink the whole thing and i'm all set till lunch.
Lj...I know exactly how you feel because I've had a problem my entire life feeling sick in the morning but it was just hormones and a slightly acid stomach. In the last 3 months I've started eating boring old oatmeal in the mornings and it not only settles my stomach but I now look forward to breakfast time, I definitely stay away from anything acidic like Yogurt, fruit or berries in the mornings. Once midmorning comes I can have things like that but only if I've eaten a good bland breakfast. I don't have ulcers or anything like that just really really good digestive juices...lol...

Neither of my daughters can eat dairy or anything sweet in the morning, on an empty stomach--it makes them feel ill.  They can eat those things later in the day, but they can't tolerate them in the morning.  Try switching to something different, like toast, and see if that sits easier.

You said you've just started doing this so give your body some time to get used to it. If you didn't used to eat breakfast much it just needs time to adjust.

I usually can not swallow any food first thing in the morning.  It takes me 2 hrs. before I can eat.  I think a lot of ppl feel this way, but don't know the reason.

Thanks alot guys, at least I know my body isn't freaking out and trying to kill me. I think i have to eat boring boring boring breakfast if I don't have a lot of time from the time I get up to when I have to leave for work! Glad to know I'm not the only thanks again!

edit: Damn zombies.

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
