Hi Tyler,

I'm assuming from your name that you are a boy.  Being underweight isn't about how you think you look, it's a piece of data.  And the fact is, that at 87lbs and 5'3", as a guy, you're underweight no matter what your age is.   What have you done to show your friend you're not anorexic?  If you don't like what size you are, I would reccomend going to  a doctor.  They can help you figure out what to eat and how to exercise in a healthful way.  Good luck!

no im actually a girl and tyler is my surname, age 14

and because she doesnt think i eat enough because i dont always eat

okay, so eat.  that will convince her.

83 pounds is very underweight, even for 14.
I accidentally lost weight and got down to 87 and I am also 5'3"  - I looked disgusting.  87 is NOT ok for you.  I assure you that you don't look attractive to others at that weight.
I guess the only way that anybody can make any kind of judgement is if you post your daily diet.
Hey there. Why don't you give us an idea of what you eat in a day, because sometimes it feels like you are eating a ton of food when actually it doesn't add up much. Also, I'm not saying you have an eating disorder or anything necessarily, but 87 pounds is very thin for anyone. If you honestly don't believe you are thin at that weight, then you kind of have a distorted image of yourself, which is a sign of having and ED.

Ok, so now that I know your age, you are still underweight even though you are a girl.  You can check it out for yourself, I posted the link below.

Whether or not you are healthy is a different story.

Why do you not always eat?  Do you eat three meals a day?   Do you eat snacks?  Does "everyone" include your parents/other adults or is it just your friends?

so basically what these people are saying is true...? so maybe you should listen to them instead of trying to convince them that they're wrong...?
Sweetie ive lived with anorexia for the last 4 years, I know how it feels getting help would be your best bet right now.

that was a terrible thing to say.

tyler, you're beautiful no matter what. but 83 pounds is very unhealthy. please, take care of yourself. <3

pretty_handsome_awkward, minie's post was honest.  and tyler is clearly deluded about how she looks.  she needs to hear the truth, and she needs to hear it loudly.

I hate posts like these...

honestly do you actually think people are going to support your opinion of you being "normal" when you claim to weigh 87lbs and don't eat much? what are you trying to prove? this arguement is very poor and one-sided...

obviously you ARE underweight, and saying that you don't eat much just registers you for more problems than one... undereating screws with your head because your brain is not getting enough nutrition to function properly... the less you eat the more that you will think that this is okay, when it is clearly not.

I was 87lbs and 5'3 and I thought I looked great, but now I see that I was wrong and I was ill... I was this weight because of an eating disorder.

NO-ONE on this site is going to support you undereating... and at 14 years old this is your peak time for growth, continueing down the path you are on will seriously harm you in the future

Tyler,

What matters most is your health--not what the scale or other people say. My daughter is 19 years old, 5' 1" tall and weighs only 90 pounds. She is thin but not skinny, she's just TINY.  Some people have thought that she was anorexic but she eats very well, three meals a day and eats at least somewhat healthy. (As her mom I wish she would eat more veggies and calcium but I have to admit that she's not doing badly.)

Make sure that you eat three times a day, healthy meals, and get at least 1200 calories a day and you should be fine.

When I was your age I weighed about the same, made similar claims that I was not thin, and I did eat and guess what......I LIED!  I was lying to myself to my family and finally ended up in a hospital away from my family unable to leave until I weighed 100 pounds.  Although you might not think you have a problem, I certainly didn't think that I had a problem, you might what to write down everything you eat for a week and show it to someone you trust.  I maintained my low weight for far too long and as a result doctor's tell me that I might not be able to have children.  This is the highest price a woman can pay and I will tell you that it wasn't worth it.  Please talk to somebody and really discuss what is going on don't just disregard what others are saying, look critically at your life and see if maybe they are seeing something that you aren't.  If you want to talk more please feel free to message me.  Just consider what I have said please!

im not saying your comments aren't true but wouldnt my parents notice if i was too thin?
Don't discount what many others that are close to you have said just because your parents haven't told you that your too thin.  If they think that you are at a healthy weight then it shouldn't be an issue for you to speak to them about what others are observing and maybe talk to them about what you are eating everyday.
