hair loss success stories
Im 18 and I have been loosing hair for a little over three months. I lost quite alot of weight although I was quite slim to begin. I used to be 140 ibs at 5 11 and then I dropped to 119. I stopped getting my period for three months as well. Then my hair started falling out and the nutrionist said it would stop after one month. I am back up to around 132 and it is still coming out. Will it ever grow back now that im healthy again. Im just looking for somone that has also had this problem bc I feel so alone. I have had to come home from college, im just looking for a light at the end of the tunnel. Please post any success stories with hair coming back and any advice. Thanks Sarah
when i was at the height of my anorexia and dumb, i "fruit fasted" for 14 days. my hair started falling out immediately. once i stopped, i increased my protein intake to about 50% of my daily calories and in about a month i was back to normal.
so, i guess my advice is just to eat more protein, and if you find that too difficult try taking biotin supplements. good luck!
at 5'11'' and 132 you are still underweight (BMI of 18.4)...you need AT LEAST a BMI of 18.5...but better if you reach a BMI of 19...Id say you still have a couple of more pounds to gain to say that you are at a healthy weight. Your hair will eventually stop falling off..and some of it will grow back, if not all of it. Just make sure you're eating plenty (enough calories for your activity level so that you are not undereating anymore) and enough of each of the nutrients your body needs...proteins, carbs and fats....you will need these to get your body back in shape, and your hair growing again.
dont worry....but do gain a bit more, to at least reach a healthier BMI....137-140 more or less...you were at a great weight so why not go back to it?
good luck
thank you very much for replying!! did you ever experience this ...it may be slowing down but it gets better then gets worse looks like ill just wait it out. I am eating alot of food and high calorie foods and not gaining but I will keep trying!! I will do anything to make this stop!
As you mention not gaining, are you eating at least or above 2500? If you're not, bump up to that level - it's the ideal for someone who was undereating or underweight, and who wants to gain and recover their metabolism from this. If you're already eating that or above you need to up your calories by about 300-500. [: You've done a lot so far though, but like Bananee said you're still underweight, so do keep going!
As for your hair, your hair reflects the state of your body three months previous. It will grow back - mine was falling out in clumps, but now is growing back in so much so I need a haircut. :] It grows back!
YES IT DOES! but its takes forever.
mine has just started thickening up again, and i've been eating "healthily" (meaning lots of protein and omega 3's and iron and zinc) for close to 7 months now.
but who knows, maybe my system is just slower than most people. it all depends, i guess.
but you're already healthier by starting this change, so you're already on your way! keep it up! good luck!

yeah mine has taken up this long as well or even longer I dare to say because I cant really notice it getting any thicker that it was just a couple of months ago... I did notice tiny hairs poking out whenever I washed my hair...but thats about it...recently I did relapse for a week and I was noticing my tiny hairs falling out....so stupid! its so important to eat and be at a healthy weight for your hair to grow...Im living proof of that.
if you are not gaining now eat more like lalabanana said...you need the weight plus the healthy intake for your hair to grow again!
good luck and just keep patient!
protein, fats, & b-vitamins. I'd say good fats are the most important factor though.
& your hair reflects what you were doing 2 months ago, so be patient. It'll catch up if your diet allows it. Good luck!
thanks I think thats mainly the problem before I used to hardly eat any fats I have no clue why I was so stupid. For the past 3 months I have been eating alot of nuts and desert twice a day to get my fats. I still eat healthy just alot much more. I hope to see a change. I will try to be optimistic.
It took me about 6 months for my hair to become healthy again- and by that point, it was healthier than it had ever been. My hairdresser was the first person to point out how much better it looked.
Eat pleanty of fats and oils, especially the "good" ones. Also protein. Full fat greek yogurt is a great thing for both. Be gentle when you brush- use a flat paddle brush. Avoid using heated appliances, or chemical products, especially hair dye. Don't pull your hair back too tightly.
Just relax and try to concentrate on how you feel, and soon your hair will be back to normal.
thanks for replying ...will it ever be thick again like it used to wont it take 2 years bc hair grows so slow. I will def concentrate on eating alot of fats now that I know it is so important to hair!
