Do you get headaches when you diet?

Quote  |  Reply

I'm trying to figure out why I constantly have a headache now.  I've just reduced my calories and started drinking warm tea- maybe it's the caffeine?  Or vitamins- maybe B vitamins?

Do any of you get headaches from dieting?  What's it from and what do you do about it when it's so persistent it's kinda silly to keep taking ibuprofen?

What are your stats and how many calories are you consuming?

You could possibly be not eating enough or lacking some nutrients.

yeah..

would a headache really ensue from not eating enough though?  i don't see the connection between calories and pain in your brain lol

could be the vitamins, I have troubles from headaches taking almost any of them. Also while normal tea is generally fine (although some brands with more tanin do give me a bit of a headache), green tea gives me a really super headache.

not eating enough could give you headaches, especailly if you aren't getting enough carbohydrates, your brain needs sugars to run on, fats and proteins don't really work so well. you could try eating something when you get a headache and see if it helps.
Also drinking water generally helps me.

how much are you drinking? the number one cause of headaches is dehydration.

I get headaches if I don't drink enough water and eat enough food.

did you replace coffee with the tea? if so, then that's probably the cause of it.

She is a good ole gal from LA, like me!  Of course she drinks! Wink

Seriously, the lack of caffeine does it to me every time.  I have to have my morning coffee or I can guarantee a day of misery.

thanks for the help!  now i'm pretty sure it's because i haven't been drinking enough because some water made it go away!

interesting you mentions this b/c i have constant headaches everyday all day, that i'm actually going to see my doctor next week. i've been on my diet for months now and only now do i get headachnes so i don't know if its stress or my diet or something more. i have heard that if ur iron is low that that could cause you to be at risk for headaches.

It could be the B vitamins, I had a reaction of BAD headaches when I was taking extra B vitamins.  Too much Iron also tends to give me headaches...

could be related to your blood sugar... depending on how your dieting and how much your consuming you might not be getting enough of what you need. also it could be artificial sweeteners.  they give me (and many others) headaches.

for me it is always water.  I get sluggish and get headaches if I don't drink a ton of water.  And If i really get a sweat on at the gym sometimes I get dry lips, even as humid as it right now in FL.  I am assuming that this too is an effect of not enough water.

Absolutely.  Low blood sugar from insufficient food intake can trigger headaches.  The low blood sugar causes a chemical imbalance that triggers pain in your brain.

Only when I don't eat enough...

I get migraines if my blood sugar drops too low. I've been tested for diabetes twice. So far I'm ok...

And I make sure to eat regularly (ie often) throughout the day.

As for the times I screw up.... well they don't happen much any more - I know how NOT to get the headache, so Ibuprofen and my essential oil roll on help.

Make sure you aren't sensitive to artificial sweeteners. I figured it out after a YEAR of daily headaches that the one diet soda I was having was the cause. I had had headaches for so long I had become sort of accustomed to them, until I cut out the soda for two weeks and absent mindedly picked one up one day. An hour later-migraine! Now I can't have crystal light or anything of the kind. But I gladly give it up for no headaches.

I read that when you get that headache from dieting you drink lavender tea and it will help you.

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
