How long did it take YOU to repair your metabolism?

Quote  |  Reply

Hello all :)

I'm currently in the slow process of healing my body from excessive starving. My weight gain is starting to slow down, so that's good, but I'm still waiting for the day when I can eat a normal amount and not put on 5 pounds.

So I was just curious, to anyone who has recovered from an ED, how long did it take your metabolism to finally speed up again?

P.S. All you strong folk who have recovered are my inspirations xo

Hello Lanana23,

I have been struggling with an ED for 3 years now and cant even imagine when I will be able to experience recovery. I dont know the answer to your question but I wish you the best of luck! Stay strong, you are an inspiration and will show many people that recovery is possible :)

Hi, I am also in recovery and my metabolisom was very slow, so my doctor put me on unsweet grape fruit juice (4oz before your 3 biggest meals) She said it will kick start my metabolisom. Another way is to eat 2500 cals till you stop gaining, and people promise me that you wont get over weight I ate 3000 when I first started recovery cause I was so hungry but I currently only eat 2000 because I am not as hungry as I was. Good luck hope I helped :)

I'm not fully recovered, but I'm currently eating between 2500-4000 cals a day (big range, I know, but it all depends on how much dessert I'm craving) and my weight just fluctuates right now (between 112 to 117). It's been about 8 months of half-assed recovery (only 1800 a day) and a month of REAL recovery.

How did your half assed recovery do you? Like did you gain? Did you feel healthier at least some? And how does your metabolism seem to be for you?

Good job working up to 25/40! I know exactly what you mean with the dessert thingXD

missteenhopeful, I wish you the best of luck as well! It's not easy going through recovery, but we know and will one day be proof that it is possible :)

jillyjellybeans, Hmm, grape juice. Haha I don't like grape juice, but perhaps I'll try that! Thanks for the suggestions, I hope the rest of your recovery goes fabulously. ps. Your picture is soo gorgeous. I <3 your hair! :)

pachoulia, I loove dessert too. Anything with cream in it is the best haha :) Good luck with the rest of your recovery, I know you can do it!

My half-assed recovery had me maintaining to gaining about 0.5 a pound a month. My metabolism has been really strange. At one point (when I was just starting recovery) I gained 5 pounds on 800 cals a day (real weight too, not water weight. my clothes didn't fit...) and my redistribution has happened REALLY fast (except not to the boobs..). For example, I've gained another pound and my jeans are looser.

Health-wise, I was SUPER health conscious at 1800. I ate a ton of fruits, vegetables, and breads (I hate hate hate nut, except for nut butters). I never ate any junky foods an repressed all my cravings, so I was healthy, but I wasn't, if you know what I mean. Now, I can't hit 4000 without my ice creams, munchie mixes, excessive amounts of bagels, and high calorie drinks. But eating makes me tired now, so I sleep A LOT.

My metabolism right now is pretty good. I lose weight super fast though. Sometimes, I won't eat enough (my grandmother's been sick, so I haven't had ANY appetite. I'm forcing food down), and although I won't lose any weight, overnight, I'll look like I've lost 2 pounds by undereating 200cals on day. By undereating, I mean 2300 cals instead of 2500+.

@Pachoulia, I think you've done an awesome job! It must have been scary gaining so much at the beginning, I know I was totally freaked out when it just started happening. And it's still happening, but I'm learning to cope.

Doesn't it make ya feel kinda good inside knowing you can eat SO much without gaining? All us recovered folk are going to be the ones with the nice bodies and speedy metabolisms, just think of it that way!

Oh, and I totally know what you mean by gaining to everywhere BUT the boobs. :|

Well great job getting your calories up! I honestly have noo idea where I am at with my metabolism. It was weird. I was having a reallyyy rough day one day last week and didn't have anyything between breakfast and dinner (which was even later than normal). I know that's really bad but I was,, yeah. And I like,, all my bloating instantly dropped. I peed and sweat like everything out I swear. And I looked close to how I had looked weeks before (right when I started recovery). But I was soooo weak and sore. I had some seriousss abdominal discomfort and muscle pain. But yeah it was like, instant pounds just dropping.. it was weird.

Anyways, I really hope my metabolism adjusts to this new diet accourdingly. I have been doing reallyy well for the past few days. I just gotta keep it up and kick some ED ass! It'll be awesome.

Oh and I agree with lanana on the whole just thinking of it as "all us recovered folk are going to be the ones with the nice bodies and speedy metabolisms". But it'll only work if we stick to it! So keep it up, lovely:)
