Need advice on being awake!

Quote  |  Reply

Im constantly tired throughout the day. On most nights I get the recommended 8 hours of sleep. Im a student at university so I need to be awake throughout the day in order to study but I crash around early afternoon and can barely keep my eyes open while studying. Any suggestions would be great.

get some of those listerine mouth wash pocket pack strips :o just pop one in ur mouth everytime ur bout to crash and itll so wake up up ^.^ its lik how most ppl would react to spicey food, except this time its minty o.O maybe u should try listenin to some work out music or somethin, to like get u 'pumped' up :D hope u feel mor awake/better ;p

That 8 hours is a minimum, kinda like the 1200 calories on CC. For me it's more like 9.5 hours otherwise I need coffee to get me through. Making sure you go to bed/get up at the same times can help. It could be the food you're eating too, make sure you're not crashing because you're filling up on junk in the morning/for lunch. Oh and naps help if you can have one, about half an hour to an hour can work well :)

balanced meals, 7-9 hours of sleep, a multi-vitamin and daily exercise should all help with energy levels. are you stressed? that can impeded sleep quality as well.

Sorry to hear you're so tired all the time! Are you getting enough iron in your diet? Some of my friends who are anemic complain about feeling tired all the time, so it's just a thought. Like chrissy1988 said, a balanced diet, sleep, and supplements should do the trick (B-12 in particular.) I'd also lay off the caffeine to offset any adrenal fatigue that can occur when you have too many stimulants. In addition, watch what you're eating for lunch to make sure it's low-glycemic and doesn't give you a spike in energy and then an afternoon slump!

Sleep more.  8 hours is a guideline; some people need more.

I need anywhere from 6-10 hours. It's a pretty big variation, but my point was that 8 hours, like others have said, is kind of an average. Some people need less, some need more.

And stress will make you tired, regardless of sleep. I can barely hold my eyes open in class some days, despite getting 8-9 hours of sleep. Diet also plays a pretty big role in how rested you feel.

Sleeping too much can actually make you more tired though. I usually do  fine on 7 hours, I also wake up 7 or 8 times a night so I'm probably not even getting that! My dad has always had only 5 or 6 hours and he is fine on that so I guess it varies.

I'm not sure about supplements... we shouldn't need to use them. I find the idea of taking vitamins and minerals in that manufactured way instead of through a balanced diet totally weird - but thats just me!

I felt this way before I started exercising in the morning. I've read that morning exercise can help start your body clock, although tbh i figure exercise at any time of the day is better than none! Also when I wasn't eating enough calories I was tired all the time. Although I turned to coffee to solve this problem, even though I didn't actually like it at the time!

I read on abother topic you only ate 1500 (what did you eat today thread for teens). If you're active a well this is not enough for a teenager. This is like the bare minimum for a sedentary teen. Might be worth checking if you need to be eating a bit more? This could definitely

How many calories are you typically getting a day, and how much exercise are you doing?

Regardless, I know how much it sucks to feel exhausted while trying to study so best of luck with figuring it out :)

I heard not having enough iron can make you sleepy.  Also limit sugar as it gives you a quick rush but then you crash shortly after the high.  Chew some gum in class and keep yourself cool as heat drags you down.  Drink lots of water.  Hope you find something that works for you.

thanks everyone.. i did go out and buy some vitamins...to chrissy1988, i am stressed, its around midterms but i guess i cant help that.. i have been feeling a little better lately but now i mostly wake up with headaches..any thoughts?

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
