Great question, I am also having the same thoughts because my mom's idea of the foods I need to be eating to gain weight for recovery....are not healthy at ALL, and high in calories..so basically its all junk,,,worse thing is when she is around, I HAVE TO EAT IT....i hate it because I want to be healthy.....

aggghhh. recovery is the hardest thing i've attempted in my life.
no a calorie is a calorie. but you should try to aim for no more than 10% cals from junk food. try to eat lean protein &build muscle. 1 pound of muscle burns 50 calories, without even doing anything. so since your a young boy your in peak bone/muscle building time. eat 3000+ &do strength traing. so 300 of those cals would be oky coming from junk food. of course you could maybe have like 500. but try not to go over that.

Yea I love klondike bars & cherry cheesecake danishes.

umm 1000/3000 cals from junk is pretty bad for your health. i would suggest not to do that. but from you original question, no, it doesnt make a diffrence from how you gain. a calorie is a calorie, whether it comes from a carrot, or cheesecake.

you cant limit yourself to 500 cals of it? &2,500 from healthy foods?

I would say in your case its better to get calories from junk than not at all.  You're young and a male so it probably wouldn't be too bad FOR NOW, but in the long run you're going to develop poor eating habits that can cause future helath problems and obesity.

On a daily basis, yes. Once in a while, it's not so bad.

Over the summer, I consumed a pint of ice cream in one sitting, 1 day a week- I came out of it ok.

a whole pint? In one sitting? AH the brain freeze! My head is cold just thinking about it. But as long as you approach it mentally healthily and don't subsist solely on junk, I think a few little indulgences won't kill you. Everything in moderation.

Yes, and I enjoyed every last second of it. By the end of the summer I got totally sick of ice cream, haven't had any since.

have you ever had ice cream as your meal? instead of your dessert?

eating ice cream on an empty stomach is one of the MOST AMAZING feelings ever!

um, that's wrong I believe.. I think it's more around 10 calories a pound of muscle burns, not 50. If that were the case I'd be burning around 4600 calories a day. psh I wish.

I dont think so a calorie is not a calorie, 100g of glucose would be better than 100g of fructose because you can use glucose as energy straight away, the same again with fat compare medium chain triglycerides  with long chain triglycerides  the medium chain triglycerides can be utilized as energy without being stored in adipose tissues,

If you ate so much junk food that you didn't get enough healthy stuff to meet your basic nutritional needs, you'd just get fat, not healthy... there's nothing wrong with eating ONE klondike bar and ONE cherry danish every day of the week since you say you adore them, but you can't let them substitute for all the protein and fiber and vitamins and minerals that your body needs to grow.

but hes talking about gaining. it wouldnt have an effect at all. an extra 3,500 cals = a pound whether from junk or not

Junk food usually has no nutritional value
You won't be getting proper nutrients, you'll most likley be exceeding the recommended fat, saturated fat, and trans fat intake.
nobody wants to gain fat,
