MY PERIODS ARE BACK - after a whole year!
Ok, so today... I woke up and my period was here!
I am so happy, but really surprised that I have menstruated..my BMI is only 17.5 I think and I am 15 and still at quite a low weight (I am 95 lbs and 5 ft 2) its strange because I developed amenorrhea way before I even lost much weight. I lost my period at around 115-120 lbs and now it has come back at 95 lbs...wow. I just hope it stays.
Good work well done!
Remember to keep gaining until you reach a healthy BMI (at least 18.5 I think), then your period should keep coming and you'll eventually find it a nuisance like all of us lol! If you are on any pill to help your period along, it should be a little more regular. Seeing as it's your first period in a year it may be a little irregular at first and you may skip one or two, nothing to panic about just rest assured that as long as you're doing what you're doing now your body will respond in the right way.
Yeah, that is my plan.... to keep gaining until I am a healthy weight :)
My period has been fairly light, is this normal? It has lasted three days so far, so I assume it is a true period. Although it was not red... it was like dark brown (sorry if that is TMI!) Before my ED my periods were always really heavy and lasted for 3 days.
Great stuff.
Yeah that's normal at first, I guess it's like you're starting your periods all over again, like I said if it's coming back heavier each time til it's like your old periods then you're on the right track :) Like I said though, it all takes time - your body is first of all seeing to repairs in your organs and bones but now it's given you your cycles back which is a good sign!
Congrats!!
Mine still has yet to come, I started losing over a year ago, and lost it about 8 months ago after developing orthorexia, then I became obsessive with weight loss aftert that, and have been slowly returning to my normal self- but much more health concious now! :)
I've been eating great for 3 months or so, and am still waiting for mine to come back
Congrats! I can share your joy and excitement because after 8+ years without my period, I got mine today! What a wonderful feeling to know that all the hard work of recovery is paying off...

That is so amazing--eight years and your body is still willing to forgive ;) I extend the same congratulations to you as to the op!
Now I'll just wait patiently for my own.

Kinda late post but congrats!!! May I ask how you got it? Did you take any vitamins or eat any certain foods?

Some people just get their periods at lower bmis. I can get mine at a bmi of 16. I know a girl who have a bmi of like 14.5 and she got pregnant. Everyone's bodys are different
congradulations! I as well haven't had my period for a long time because of eating. May I ask what type of food you ate to get it back? Also at a BMI of 17.5 is that in the morning or after you eat food? Thank You
I wasn't eating any type of food in particular, I was eating 2000 calories everyday and exercising fairly lightly. :)
At a bmi of 17.5 in the morning before I have had anything to eat or drink.
I'm so jealous lol. Isn't it strange now hearing people complaining about their monthly gift when we're working our asses off to get it back XD well done and keep on gaining or else it could go away again just as quickly. Healthy is the aim! Good luck in the rest of your recovery :)
Well, I honestly think periods are more dependant on calorie intake than weight. I've had them back for 7 months now, and they're very regular. My weight has increased slightly and I am now 98 lbs at bmi 17.9... so I have gained a little. I know I am still underweight, but I feel healthy here and I'm only 16 so I guess my body is still developing :)
Good luck on getting your periods back, my advice is make sure you eat enough to fuel your body and they should come back as long as you're not severely underweight.
Thanks redandblu. Isn't 2000 calories a maintain weight how can you gain at that weight? Also my mom said I didn't over eat but then why did I gain weight? I'm also 16, but I don't know if I should measure my bmi in the morning or at the end of the day because usually i'm heavier at the end of the day..
I only gained because I was binging occasionally...usually around 5000+ calories once in a while :/....
You should weigh yourself in the morning! :)
Thanks! I was also wondering how many calories you are eating to maintain your weight and could you give me an example of a day possibly?
Sure, I usually eat 1800ish if I am sedentary and 2000 when I have exercised.
Two slices of toast with butter - 280
Apple - 80
Muller rice - 200
Soup - 200
Two slices of bread with butter - 280
Snack - 160
Dinner - whatever my mum cooks, chili, pasta, bolognese, chicken with potato & vegtables, ect....usually around 600 calories.
Desert - Cereal, Yogurt and fruit, or ice cream... or something usually around 200 calories.
That brings me to 2000 calories with cycling for 2 hours. I usually exercise 3-4 days a week. When I'm on my butt all day I will just have 1800 calories :)
Hope I helped.
Thanks! So today I ate a lot of carbs and sorta oily food outside and my stomach looks huge! Is this an ED thing? Like I feel like I'm gaining a lot of weight on my stomach..is that normal? Also I sorta binge eat sometimes is that bad and are their certain foods that will make me gain unhealthy weight or can I just eat food I want (along with fruits and vegetables?)
Ugh, I'm jealous. I'm 5'2 like you, 107 pounds, and my period has yet to return. Dag nabbit. xD
But congrats on yours. Sometimes the period will come back before the body is ready...this can occur in BMIs as low as 14-15. So keep chugging. I felt good when I got back to 95, even better at 100, and GREAT at 105-110.
My best wishes!
Hi redandblu sorry I have another question.. when trying to get your period back and maintain your weight how much did you exercise could you give me an example please? Thanks! I'm trying to get my period back right now :)
To be honest I continued to exercise quite a lot, but it isn't a good idea to exercise too much. I walked for about 1-2 hours a day and went cycling three times a week, and I still exercise this much. But if I cut my calories low I skip my period that month, but get it back again as soon as I eat enough. Good luck, just make sure you eat quite a lot, you will only gain real weight if you eat more than 2000 calories...I usually gain if I eat 2200-2500. I also binge sometimes but I am trying to stop. I'm sure you will get your period back soon :)
