phases of anorexia recovery

Quote  |  Reply

Does anyone know what the medical and psychological phases of recovery from anorexia are?

Im 4 months into recovery and at a somewhat healthy BMI (18).What can I expect?

So far the binging is subsiding a little.I think cuz a weigh more?

I still see myself wrong I think ,cuz I think I look overweight.Logically I know I am more healthy now.I just want to agree with the logic and shut up ED thoughts.I still have ED thoughts.I just tryu to ignore them and I litterally say out loud" No its not true! Ed is a liar! I am fine" I just want to believe it.

Any words of wisdom?

You know that you're still underweight: keep it in mind and repeat to yourself. I also had a phase at about bmi 17.5-18 where I felt fat, my clothes were tighter... FALSE, but that was the trigger of my multiple relapses. Sad, i know. I'm healthy now, bmi 20+ and I feel wonderful! Just keep on gaining, not thinking twice about what you eat, just doing it! And buy bigger clothes if you need it (I did). Think about your children, they deserve a healthy mom and you deserve a full life. Your fat feeling will pass, trust me. Now, instead of feeling fat and ugly I feel thin and womanly. Just enjoy life, take care!

Thank You : ) I just needed to be reminded.I feel better "right now".It is reassuring to hear you say that you felt this way at the same BMI and now the fat feeling has passed for you.I look forward to reaching that  stage in my recovery.

God Bless !!!!

hey dear, read this, it will really help! Even though I haven't been underweight for 3 years now (and I'm almost 'overweight' now) I realized when I read the following post that I didn't go through a complete 'recovery' despite the weight gain because I didn't do it in the best way. So read this and make sure you go about it right, don't skimp out too early, and then you won't be left with any unpleasantsies afterwards:

Thanks for the reminder! I printed this original advice off a couple of months ago, and re-read it regularly. I don't know about anyone else, but I find that ED makes me a bit thick - No matter how much logic you throw at me, and I get my head around it and start following sound advice, I find that the next day the whole lot has gone out the window and I have to start over again persuading myself that I'm doing the right thing...

So, Amnvin, we ARE doing the right thing - onwards and upwards!! - By the way, from your picture, you are exactly the opposite of 'looking overweight'.  just wish I could be that objective about my own appearance, though!

You guys are all so great! When I am struggling it really helps to get on here and read what all of you have to say.

Thank You so Much!
