Hello!
Im so glad that I found this powerful great community...
Huuuuh, Im anorexic too, I had some attempt to overcome this horrible desease, with no results...but now I really decided... just to know, reading your posts gave me a lot of power, and Im convinced that I can.
Tomorrow I”ll go to my nutritionist, and hope that she gives me a recovery meal plan as yours... I really need Your help, please pleeease!
I spent a large part of my summer going through inpatient treatment at the hospital, so this was my daily consumption while on bedrest. Now that I am out and about my food choices have changed and become increasedly wider and more appealing, but the meal plan the nutritionists at the clinic set for me gave a good example of what it takes to recover. The idea was to continue caloric increases to avoid refeeding syndrome, until a relatively stable diet was reached...once the increases stopped, a day for me looked something like this. It seems like a daunting amount, but that's the amount I need to gain even a little bit of weight.
Breakfast: a cup of wholegrain cereal, a cup of vanilla flavoured soya milk, a slice of wholegrain toast, two tablespoons of peanut butter, a cup of diced watermelon.
Snack: a large banana bran muffin, a cup of vanilla flavoured soya milk, a cup of grapes.
Lunch: vegetarian entree (consisted of: a cup of mixed beans, half a cup of lentils, a cup of mixed vegetables), an apple, a slice of wholegrain toast, a tablespoon of margarine.
Snack: a smoothie (consisted of: a cup of vanilla flavoured soya milk, a cup of strawberries, a banana), a granola bar, a cup of carrots.
Dinner: two hard-boiled eggs, a tossed salad, two tablespoons of oil dressing, a cup of rice, a cup of vanilla flavoured soya milk.
Snack: a wholegrain bagel, two tablespoons of peanut butter, a cup of vanilla flavoured soya milk, a cup of grapes.
I am trying to recover. I skip stuff so often but this plan is really easy and it doesnt push too much pressure on me. My nutritionist has put me on this diet:
Breakfast: Cereal & Milk (you can use whatever feels comfy for you
) Slice of whole wheat toast with peanut butter, jam, or butter spread. Fruit!
Snack: Try some popcorn, a granola bar, or a regular yogurt. Try not to have fruit as your snack though!
Lunch: Sandwich with peanut butter and jelly. Adding snacks is optional!
Snack: A bag of nuts & an apple. Granola bar, yogurt bar - do what you like!
Dinner: Whatever mom prepares :D Tonight I had a veggie burger on toast with Kraft reduced fat cheese. Its so yummy and easy. Dessert is recommended. Inpatients have sponge cake - I have skinny cow! I think of it this way to make me feel lucky!
Before bed: Innocent smoothie drink. So yummy and puts me to bed :)
Hope this really helps!
Eating large volumes of food is often hard, esp. when your digestion is messed up. So I've always tried to cram as many calories as possible into small amounts of food. I usually need 3500+ calories with no exercise when I'm on weight gain. Here is a sample meal plan:
Breakfast: I have a simple breakfast, that's very high-cal: I have 1/2 c Bear Naked high protein granola (280 calories) in 8 oz vanilla Ensure plus (350 calories) with a sliced banana (110) and a dannon yogurt (150 calories) = 890 calories
Lunch: 2 slices ww bread (180 calories) with 2 TB peanut butter (190) & 1 TB jelly (50); with a luna bar (180 calories) and an apple (80) = 680 calories
Snack: Smoothie-- 8 oz Ensure plus (350) blended with protein powder (100), banana (110) and frozen fruit (50); with 1/4 c trail mix (160) = 770 calories
Dinner: salad with dressing (100), 4 oz grilled chicken (180) with 1 cup pasta (200) w/ pesto (150) and chocolate milk (200) = 830 calories
Snack: fruit (80) with Ensure Plus (350) and 2 hershey's kisses (50) = 480 calories
Total: 3650 calories
My current meal plan is for 2500 calories:
Breakfast : 140 g of cereal (at least 420kcal per 100g) with 100ml of 1% milk + Large orange + slice of wholegrain toast with nutella
Lunch: Sandwich (2 slices of wholemeal bread and slice of meat eg. ham) + packet of snack a jacks/chips + dessert
Snack: Cereal Bar
Dinner: A ready meal (not brave enough for home cooked food yet) which is around 550 cals
Snack: I work out if I've had 2500 and if it's less I add in a snack here such as fruit or cereal

swimfan, your menus always really inspire me and make me realize that there's no excuse for not getting the cals in! you manage to pack them in without it being too bulky. way to go!
I'm anorexic, too. I haven't actually started recovery yet, but i'm trying desperately to take small steps myself.
At its worst, i was only eating 800 kcal/day, but now it's rougly 1000-1200.
This post really helped me.
Check out my blogs, though.
The one about my ED: (i usually say what i ate)
http://www.lifeoflaloo.blogspot.com/
The one about whole food:
When I began my recovery from ED (anorexia) I saw a nutritionist who has helped me tremendously!!!! First and foremost it is so important to eat a lot of calories to repair your body and the damage you have done. I didn't realize how much I did until I began my meal plans and how much more energy, motivation, etc. I feel. This is what you need to start off with. I should advise you that if you want to recover then you shouldn't count calories at all!!!!! When I started my meal plan I took the adivce of my nutritionist and would go grocery shopping and never look at the calorie and fat content but the product. -these are the nutrients you need to recover!
Breakfast (6am) - cereal with milk and a piece of fruit OR oatmeal with fruit OR bagel with cream cheese or butter
Snack at (9am) -peanut butter and apple or cottage cheese and apple, or chips and hummus
Lunch- 12pm- salad with chicken or turkey or tuna and baquette, or (Subway) or Panera Bread, or a sandwhich with chips and fruit
snack at 2 or 3pm- Chips and hummus or pretzles or cheese and apple, yogurt,
Dinner at 6pm- chicken and green beans or soup and baquette or Lean Cuisines
Dessert- ice cream, pudding, fruit and whipped cream or cool whip, cookies, brownies.
This will freak you out at first but it's so important for you to eat and speed up your metabolism again. You will experience constipation because your stomach isn't used to processing foods so frequently. For me when I began recovery I craved sweets....sweets galoure! This is so normal and it felt so good once I allowed myself to eat sweets. I ate licorice, candy, cookies, ice cream and didn't grow 'fat' like ED told me I would. Your body was in starvation mode and once you listen to what your body wants and craves and give it that you will evantually get past that stage. I am 4 months into recovery and have gained 16 lbs. :) It feels good to eat normally and not feel guilty for having 5 cookies with breakfast or snagging bites of ice cream at 2pm. Reward yourself during your recovery with something you deserve to eat. And remember your weight gain isn't just fat...its' water retention, food in your stomach, water weight and muscle. And do yourself a favor and smash the scale like I did. woooo hoo.
I hope this helps!

hi im catherine and im 16 i ahve anrexia ive been in and out of hospital with my weight going up and down all the time ,
im back in hospital right now and been finding it really hard , but i decided to be brave i got a pen and paper and wrote down everything thats bothering me and gave it to my nutrinalist , i now see i will not get fat , fat is not the word its fit and healthy the natural weight that i should be .
ive been in hospital a month now
ive decedied to now to stick to my meal plan and here it is
B - 2 slices of toast , i cup of tea or weetabix and a cup of tea
S - ceral bar
L - cheese sandwhitch or ham sandwhitch or mixed bean salad or pasta salad with a roll or piece of bread - i find that bit hard
s - yogert , or a ceral bar , with an orange juice, fruit
D- anything really usually a jacket potatoe with salad and scrambled egg , or lasanua , fish with veg and potaoes or if im having a hard dar somthing like speggetti on toast
s - low fat hot chocolate i should really push myself to have normal ones but i cant - with a couple of biscuits low fat i know i shouldeng agian low fat , or a ceral bar , if its a sunday i treat my self and have somthing like a puddingy type thing , or a fun sized chocolate
My wieght at the moment is 31.95 kg and my bmi is 14.1 i still see myslelf a normal weight but i know thats the anrexic thoughts taking over , i do find it hard but then i think this is not how i want to live my life im weasting it im 16 ishould be out having fun , living my life , and whn i look back at the months i weasted in hospital ill regret it so im going to get batter i wont let anrexia take over my life .
and csn i say im really impressed with people who have overcome it , its very hard to , and i look up tp u for that and it enocoutages me to get well and halthy and get my life back
This meal plan really seems to be working for me. I devised it myself with the help of online info from dieticians and past experience in inpatient treatment (which I am fighting tooth and claw not to go back to, because I have no insurance as well as no desire to go back).
Breakfast: 1 cup granola cereal (200 calories), banana, 1 cup soy milk
Snack: 1 1.5 oz bag trail mix (240 cal), 3 prunes (helps digestion!)
Lunch: 1 chicken sandwich (2 slices whole wheat bread, 1 Tbsp mayo, 6 thin slices lunch meat) and 1 avocado, which I slice up and put on the sandwich
Snack: 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 1 apple, 1/2 cup baby carrots with 2 Tbsp Makoto ginger dressing (This dressing is very good and healthy too, if you can find it in your groc. store-usually with the refrigerated health food)
Dinner: 1 cup pasta, 7 oz. tofu, 2 more Tbsp. ginger dressing.
Snack: 6 Triscuits and one can sardines in olive oil (Sardines have a rep for being gross, but I love them and they are actually very healthy).
And during the day, I will throw in a smoothie or ice cream or a protein shake, basically anything that equals 500 calories. This bring my total up to 3000 calories, give or take. I am not currently gaining on this diet and am considering adding 500 more, but I'm not sure where yet. Anyway, this diet works for me; I can change it up a little from day to day and I don't feel too grossly full. It is manageable and better than being in the hospital. I'm starting to enjoy going all strict and inpatient on myself; it's really the only choice I have. Best of luck to all who are attempting recovery--you have my respect and best wishes, for this is one difficult thing to do.
I know this is an old thread but thought I'd post one of my many trial and error meal plans. This is the only one that has so far worked in making me maintain my weight. My eating has since this time decreased by an awful lot, but there are physical reasons for this.
(P.S I am allergic to dairy, thats why there are the soya alternatives listed)
Breakfast: 30g cereal (bran flakes/rice krispies/etc), 100ml soya milk, 1 tsp. sugar AND 3x wholemeal medium sliced toast, soya butter, peanut butter AND 200ml fruit juice
Snack: 2x Apple crumble granola bars AND 200ml Soya Milk
Lunch: 2x wholemeal medium sliced bread, soya butter, ham AND packet of crisps AND 1x syrup pancake, custard AND 200ml water
Snack: 2x Maple Syrup granola bars AND 200ml soya milk juice
Dinner: Meat, potato/rice/pasta, vegetables/baked beans AND bowl of soya ice cream AND piece of fruit AND 200ml water
Snack: Tea, 100ml soya milk, 1 tsp. sugar, water AND 3x biscuits AND packet of raisins AND piece of fruit
Not sure how many calories this is, feel free to have a go at working it out. All meals are normal portions btw ;)

I agree, thank you everyone for all the posts I have been struggling with an eating disorder for quite awhile and have lost so much weight unhealthily, im trying to gain weight back healthy, im glad that there are recovery ideas to help me gain weight
I am recovery from Anorexia too. It's really hard. I'm going to my first clinic on Tuesday the 7th. Currently I am 15 years old 5'0 and 75 pounds..
I ate around 300-400 calories MAX per day so I'm really scared about what I'm going to have to eat to start gaining weight.. But I like a lot of your meal plans lol they're very exciting and adventurous. :D
Hey I'm a teenage boy recovering from anorexia and I've found a daily intake that's helping me gain at a fairly steady rate of 2-2.5 pounds a week. Here's an example...
B- Bagel with almond butter and chopped banana; small fruit smoothie
S- Muller Rice Pudding; apple
L- Bean Soup; bread sticks; some veggies with hummus; slice of cake
S- Tuna mayo with chickpeas + sweetcorn; ensure plus peach
D- Fish with rice and green beans
Ice cream with crumbled digestives + some dark chocolate
S- Ensure plus peach
Hope this helps! I aim to eat every 2-3 hours. That way I never feel tempted to binge and I never feel "stuffed" which is a major trigger of ED. Instead I'm constantly satisfied and my metabolism is regulated. Its been working well so far and my dietician seems to approve :) good luck anyway
bump-ing this; it's really helping me struggle through my tough times with anorexia recovery! thanks!
