so to help regulate things, how many prunes per day should be eaten?

not sure but not TOO many as prunes are nature's laxative. You don't want to overstimulate your bowels nor become dependent!

I think I've heard 5-7 a day, but I'm stony, so usually I take more when I'm on a prune kick.

am I not supposed to just keep eating them as a regular part of diet?

so 2 a day isn't enough? *does more calculations*

and you know these little suckers are 25 cals each!!

yeah that's why I"m eating them! It sure isn't for the flavor.

Not even close to too many since I'm only at 2 a day LOL. I was afraid of eating too many!

I know you can get dependent on OTC lax's.... but really? you can get dependent on a food? I mean, theoretically aren't we all dependent on fiber?

One serving, Crazy Bunny.  Like five of them.

I eat them cause I like the taste, but oh the problems if I eat more than five...

blech. I'm gonna have to find a new solution. I can barely choke down 2. LOL

(there you go HK *lob*)

Miralax.  Really.  It's expensive, but it is a gentle "laxative", softens the bowels without stimulating.  They give it to kids long term who have problems with compacted bowels.

Or go with Fiber One (60 calories for 14 grams fiber).  I wouldn't start with a whole serving every day, just half.  It is good in flavored yogurt, or on top of other cereal.

I'm already eating kashi and flaxseeds in everything along with lots of veggies, I don't log so I don't know exact fiber input... but that is where I started, with increasing fiber.

I don't want to take miralax... (1) I don't want to take something that isn't food for it and (2) its preg. cat. C.

If I get lucky, I don't want to be in that position.

The thing is, citrucel works. I just don't want to take it every day. What am I missing? I get fats, I get fiber. I drink 5 bottles of water or more.

although, its better today and I'm wondering if maybe its just the weekend drinking? Cause I quit drinking too so I can quit smoking.??

Coffee works best for me.

also I do want to add in fiber one.. I am just not paying $4 for a box of cereal!!! I will wait for it to go on sale. hmmph!

coffee is hit or miss. it has to be with a cigarette about halfway through the cup.

and I'm quitting cigarettes!! LOL

*sigh*

Im very discombobulated today so apologies if I've skipped around.

Maybe your body has to adapt to life without cigarettes to get back on track?

Or maybe you just need better reading material ;)

 LOL!!!

this was pre-existing issue before deciding to quit though. I think I need to do a couple days of logging (BAAAAHAHAAA!!!) foods so I can get my true fiber intake.

and isn't yogurt supposed to help with the good bacteria, or is that only the "activia" brands?

Beans have lots of fiber.  Also, make sure you are getting enough fat.

I'm naturally constipated, I guess - I always feel somewhat that way...

And any change or stress makes it worse.  Don't know if other people are that way...

Searching for something, like comparing prices at the grocery store, or looking for a book at a library, often seems to stimulate me.

LOTS of chocolate will give you the runs, but it is a very high calorie way to go.

I don't know - I have a suspicion that Activia is just marketing (I mean, all yogurt has live cultures, right? Or is it a special bacteria in Activia?).

<-- i'm is debating a topic called how many purses, because that's what i first thought this was..... and i'm curious if my obsession with handbags could be a medical condition...

but uh... yeah.  prunes.  i  take senna c.. not sure how good that is... but it works ;'(

 ME TOO! LOL

Yeah, I'm going to have to do a fiber and fat analysis.

That is what I was thinking too!! live and active is live and active. I always buy the store brand. There are several different strains, but there is one main one that benefits 90% of people who eat it, from when I was actually (researching and) taking the pills and not simply eating yogurt. The pills helped about as much as switching to yogurt from candy bars did. =D

EVERYTHING is a medical condition these days! You could get some good Rxs for that! hehehe

Senna makes my tummy grumbly so I only use it if its been a few days and I'm desperate. UGH.

i'm doin' it.  ;D

um.. yeah this is a great thread though, because I always feel like no matter how much I "pay attention" or eat right my stomach makes me miserable.  I'm either goin' too much or not enough, and what's the dr. going to do?  put me on meds?  there's gotta be some natural remedy out there.. and i will find it!
