Reasonable body fat% so why am I so squashy?
So im 16 and weight restored from anorexia and I'm maintaining a BMI of 19.5 (5ft 5"/117lbs) and I calculated my body fat % on our digital electric scale thing, and it said its 15.1%. That's healthy, so why Is my hips/bum/thighs so flabby? Like I can grab my hip fat and poke it and its horrid! Plus at the very top of my thighs and my butt sticks out for MILES! Like MILES! (I'm not exaggerating, I'd post a pic but it's rediculous to look at)
How is this? I see people bigger than me every day and even they don't have sticky outs bums! I know the weight I've gained has just all gone to those places, but i look like a jelly.
Sorry it's turned more into a rant, but invade you missed it, how can I look so flabby at this bf%??
You're not flabby, you're just not used to having a regular level of bf. Stop looking in the mirror and just go out and enjoy life with your friends. Your body is still going through a lot physical changes and you need bf to help your body adjust to all the changes. If anything, you need more body fat.
have you gained to your pre-ED weight? if not, then it might just be excess skin which can happen if you lost weight too quickly.
if you are at your optimum weight, then it might also be water retention or the fact that you don't have much muscle underneath yet. i agree with the above poster though, you could stand to have a higher body fat % especially if you're female and don't have your periods yet
1. Stop comparing yourself to others.
2. Body fat calculated by a scale is incredibly inaccurate.
3. Average body fat percentage for women is 25-32%. 15% body fat is what female elite athletes maintain. I assume you're not an elite athlete, right?
4. I think you're still struggling with some ED-related thoughts and body dysmorphia issues. At 5'5" and 117 pounds, there is no way you can have as much "squish" as you think you do.
You have done an amazing job in restoring your weight. The thing about anorexia is, it will hang around to torment you for as long as it can. As the above posts have pointed out, your weight and body fat are still very low, so actually you can't physically be that squishy. Your body has gone from bones, to actually having some skin for protection. You feel bigger because you are a tiny bit bigger than you were at an anorexic weight, but you must reember that bigger does not mean fatter, and you are more than likely half the size you feel. After anorexia your muscles might be weakened, but as you get further into maintenence these will grow and develop. Please dont let ed distort your view of your body. Gie it time and you will realise how great you look and how forfilling your life has become.
