did you up calories gradually or all together- Gradually until 2000, then jumped to 2500, then gradually as I needed increasing. In hospital (3 admissions) it was 900 for 2 days, 1200 for 2 days, 1800 for 4 days then 2800 as 'standard.' I was then put to 3000, 3200 and eventually 3600.

water weight? how much and how long it lasted- Different each time.

are you long at your ideal weight- I have regular periods and have since I was 47 kg but my BMI is 16.8 so I guess it's not ideal.

calories consumed a day during recovery- Average of 2500

calories consumed to maintain- I don't know

how long are you recovered- Work in progress...

did you ever relapse- Am having a bit of a blip now but have had a fair few relapses, yes, but I hadn't really 'recovered' before I had them.

is recovery worth it- Yes.

are you happy with your body now- Ish. I shouldn't be, though

Regardless of what others do or have done in the past should not impact you. If you want to recover from an eating disorder you need to stop comparing and focus on what you need to do. This is a very ed post. How does knowing what X person weighed in the worst of their ed help you in getting to recovery? It does not!

Better questions if you want to get well would be for an ex what helped you stick to recovery?

I agree. Wouldnt better questions be:

Whats the best thing about recovery?

How has recover improved your life?

Things like that...

headz19 - Your clearly still quite EDish and i hope you get the help you need/ see the light and stop comparing to others.

Original Post by headz19:

they just are to me!! it helps me!!! i dont really have to explain myself!!

It helps you, or your ED?

I can think of a few possibilities of why ''these questions are important''.

  1. You want to see if, at your weight, you ''deserve'' to eat X amount: ''She/he was at a lowest BMI, she needed more cals than me''
  2. You want to justify yourself not eating the 2500-3000 cals people here have recommended you: ''She/he gained on Xcals, why should I have more?''
  3. You want to justify your exercise: ''She/he walked/ran Xmin per day, so I can too.''

Whatever it is, you're trying to compare yourself or trying to get the ''perfect'' recovery.

Not trying to be harsh, but sometimes, tough love is needed.

name- Bree

age- 17

height- 5'4"

low weight- 85 lbs

highest weight- 135 lbs (pre-ED)

current weight- not important :)

exercise- I'm pretty much inactive but I'm slowly getting back into it :)

how you began recovery- I told my mom the truth about my eating habits a year ago. I was afraid I was going to die, so she ended up finding the local ED clinic and getting me an appointment, which led straight to a year of in and out hospitalizations

did you up calories gradually or all together- The first time, it was gradually.

water weight? how much and how long it lasted- Not sure, I never gave my body a chance to stay at a 'normal' weight, I kept relapsing.

are you long at your ideal weight- Technically no, but I'm maintaining at a lower weight right now in hopes of preventing another relapse

are you maintaining- Trying to!

calories consumed a day during recovery- Usually around 3000, I'm guessing. I didn't count - that was the hospital's job. I was on a meal plan with '1 fat, 2 starch' ect

calories consumed to maintain- Around 1700 for now

how long are you recovered- Just started real recovery.

did you ever relapse- My entire 'recovery' process so far has been one giant relapse :| This time I'm actually trying though!

is recovery worth it- Duh.

are you happy with your body now- Somewhat. I'm getting there.

name- Sarah

age- 21

height- 5'0 1/2

low weight- 68

highest weight- 138

current weight- 85

exercise- None

how you began recovery- I didn't start even looking into recovery until I was at my lowest weight when my mom told me she thought i had a problem. I knew I had a problem at that time, but at that point i was so sick and numb to everything that I didn't really care. Life was just whatever. So she started taking me to the dr, my weight continued going down. She took me to do an evaluation with renfrew (hoping to get outpatient treatment), and they told me they wouldn't be able to treat me unless I did inpatient first, due to my weight. So within a few days I was admitted IP to renfrew. It all happened so fast.

did you up calories gradually or all together- I didn't have control over how many calories I was taking in, since I was IP. But they started me on the lowest MP, which was STILL a lot more than what I had been eating. And then if i wasn't averaging 3-4 lbs a week, they'd move me up to the next MP.

water weight? how much and how long it lasted- I have no idea as I was always gaining weight, because if for one day I didn't gain, then up my meal plan would go.

are you long at your ideal weight- I am not at my ideal weight.

are you maintaining- Yes, I guess. I don't really know. I guess I should be gaining, but I feel like my weight is fine. But maybe that's my eating disorder? But my parents aren't worried about my weight either.

calories consumed a day during recovery- I was never on a calorie meal plan, I went by exchanges. But when I read my contract that my treatment team had to submit to my insurance company, it said I was eating roughly 3400 cal a day.

calories consumed to maintain- Currently I'm maintaining on 1500-1700, but I know I CAN maintain on more, I'm just afraid to.

how long are you recovered- It's been about a year in a half since I was admitted to renfrew.

did you ever relapse- I never fully recovered. I've always been kind of one foot in one foot out.

is recovery worth it- I've been told it is.

are you happy with your body now- It's weird, some days I love my body, other days I hate it. Some days I see myself as too skinny, and other days I think I look like a whale.

how you began recovery- My friends and teacher called my parents because they were worried about me. My mother told me I had to see my doctor to have a few blood tests, but when we arrived it was all about how I had been losing weight. I was told to drop by to be weighed once a week, and after losing a lot of weight in a short amount of time, my doctor referred my to an eating disorder clinic, where I started recovery one month later.
