Stress in my life right now is at an all-time high. I won't go into details, but it's making me REALLY depressed. I usually eat right and exercise, but lately I haven't been really exercising at all and have been eating like crap. It's almost to the point where I have turned to drinking by myself, something that I would never do.
How do you all deal with stress/depression?
Talking to a psychologist like a counselor helps, and they may get you medication if you are willing to go that route. Try to get at least 15 minutes of cardio and then the endorphins will kick in. Some people take B vitamin supplements and St. Johns Wort but don't take more than is on the label, and read the reviews for products, like on Amazon. I haven't tried those but I know several people who took medication from a psychiatrist and it worked for them.
I know what you are going through and best of luck to your situation.
I just read back and saw you had a concussion a few days ago. I hope you saw a doctor. A concussion can cause depression. Tell your primary care doctor as soon as you can.
I read a bit about your history...and although you are probably still burnt out (and bored) of exercise...Exercise is like #1 for depression...for me anyway
#2 (almost #)1 is sleeping..specifically, NOT oversleeping. I find that on Sundays I am usually the most depressed because I have slept in and haven't exercised (like I should...it's not my OFF day either)
I once heard the cure to depression is sleep deprivation..and while I don't necessarily think that is a good thing, I don't think it's that far from the truth.
Then once you got those figured out...take time to relax and enjoy doing what you like..for me its sitting down with my knitting and some rediculous tv show for an hour or so...chilling at the beach, making some asian 5 spice onion soup (an art really!)..window shopping....getting together for coffee wtih a friend...riding a big old goofy one speed bike for sheer pleasure...doing some photography...going to the sauna after a yoga class....
Hi. I just read the post about your concussion PLEASE DO NOT EXERCISE until you see your doctor. Also best to avoid things like TV, reading or anything that requires too much concentration for a while, maybe even a couple of weeks. I can't remember exactly why, its something to do with the pressure on the blood vessels in your brain that prevents oxygen from getting to the cells. Ask your doctor though. Please take care, rest and stay off your feet as much as possible. x
Thanks for you concerns everyone. I went to my doctor yesterday and I'm okay. However, I lifted on Tuesday and today and it made me feel a little better. I am really just bored of running right now. The last time I ran hard (about 2 weeks ago), I think I over did it and need a break from it. I am 173 lbs as of yesterday at the doctors, down a pound and a half from about two weeks ago and now I figure it's time to focus on some lifting.
It's just the mental stuff. It just kind of seems like everything has fallen down on me at once. I'm trying SO hard not to turn to emotional eating/drinking. Like I said, I won't go into the story here, but if you want to hear it, just PM me.
