It's not high, no. Your blood pressure depends on how it does for a series of measurements - you can't consider yourself to have 'high blood pressure' or 'low pressure' just on one measurement. Try taking the measurements once a week for a couple of months and see. Normal blood pressure is around 120/80 and high blood pressure is considered around 140/90 and above. That said, it depends on the person - the best person to talk to would be your doctor.

Have you had any feelings of dizzyness or wanting to faint? Perhaps your blood pressure is quite low but as I said, you need to check with your doctor and not base it on one measurement only.

Hope this helps!

A lot of things can contribute to blood pressure. If you are dehydrated, or haven't eaten in a long time, it will be low.

Also, many people who are medically compromised have low bp.

Yes, yours is a bit low, but it could be perfectly normal for you. My blood pressure is usually around 90/60. But then again, I think its largely due to my ED.

Well I eat about 1,400 calories a day.  Maybe It's because Im a "vegeterian?"

Most of the time when I stand I do feel dizzy and also in random times when I sit.  And when I stand  see partly black.  Im not dehydrated I drink about 8 -9 cups a day of water.  What is medically compromised by the way?  I know stupid question  =)

Thanks for the advice!

Low BP isn't a big deal unless you have symptoms... which you do.

My guess is you're not eating enough. What are your stats/caloric goals?

Im 18.

5"4

112 Pounds.

Female.

My goal is probably 110 at least,  But if not then just maintain at 112.  and it states I need 1,600 calories to maintain.  But do 200 calories make such a big difference?
Any other Opinions?

It depends- are you active? Since we're still growing, we need more calories than the average female adult [I'm 18 as well]. If you're eating so little AND exercising on top of that, that may be all the stress your body needs to begin shutting down [which is essentially what it's doing]

Play around a little. Increase your calories a bit & see if you feel better. If you don't have any luck, talk to your doctor. Like I said, they don't worry about relatively low BP unless symptoms are apparent- ie dizziness, fainting, blackouts, etc, so you have to let them know.

Also, do you watch your sodium intake? Getting more salt may be good for you.

To answer one of your questions, medically compromised, means having an illness or disability, sometimes temporary but may be chronic that puts your body under stress.  That stress can cause changes in your vital signs.  Also the powers that be changed the definition for high BP.  Over 120/80 is considered borderline high and 140/90 is now high and needing to be corrected.  Low BP is under 90/60 which you are but not by that much.  Athletes are often low because there bodies are so efficient.  If you are not having symptoms as was said before (lightheadedness, dizziness, passing out, headache) you should be ok as you are not that far from the cutoff.  The suggestion about salt is a good one as the more fluid your body retains the higher the blood pressure is.  Good luck.

I excercise only about 2 times a week for 30 minutes.  So I don't think that's overexcercising at all.  The problem is that if I increase my calories I gain weight really quickly, And I really don't want to it makes me ultimately depressed I can't stand it.  But I have to do what I have to do.

Also does low blood pressure also have to do with this>  Everytime I doze off to sleep I have these weird shaking and tremors where it's as if Im half awake and my eyes are a little bit opened (Or so it seems) But I keep shaking and don't wake up and then suddenly I just wake up, after shaking,  Really odd.  Does anyone here (Non Professionals) have any clue if this is related to low blood pressure?  Or any clue to what it is?
Oh ya and then If I doze off again to sleep....It happens again at least twice, And then I fall asleep.

Yes, your blood pressure is a little on the low end but it is not in the danger zone.  I have a family history with low blood pressure ranging 95/50 usually...my great grandmother, grandmother, mother, and aunt all have low blood pressure and I do as well...you might check with your doctor about it...I have problems with bracardia--heart from low blood pressure...

Have you severely restricted your calories in the past?
Since you say you gain weight quickly if you increase, that leads me to think your body's in starvation mode. That would also explain the low BP.

& as for the shaking... that just screams "RED FLAG!" to me & you really should talk to your doctor.

Well I restricted when I was 15 on 300 calories a day for 3 months, No lies.  I was maybe 98 and I went up to 110.  Then I started eating more recently, gained up to 118 and almost died, Now im at 113-114.  about.  sometimes 112.  But still It's just my body, It won't let me eat without gathering gross fat.

You're right.  maybe I should go see a doctor, although I really don't like most of them.  Can low blood pressure be an effect of stress from school, Or sadness?  Lack of Iron?

I am the same height you are. I have a small bone structure and the weight recommended for people my size is between 120 and 130 lbs.  Your too skinny.  Yes there is a such thing as low blood pressure,  It can cause black outs, dizzy spells, spots in front of your eyes, and headaches just like high blood pressure.  The difference is instead of to much blood going to your brain to little blood is going to your brain.

While your at the doctor discussing your blood pressure issues that are obviously there.  Discuss your body dismorphic disorder as well.  Your blood pressure is so low because you don't weigh enough.  Your slowly starving yourself to death.

There is skinny and then there is too skinny and hon, you passed that a long time ago.  Your risking your life by trying to lose weight at this point.

I think it is likely that your blood pressure is too low because A. You're underweight and B. You're eating far too few calories. The minimum for teens is 1800.

I think that you have an ED. Low blood pressure is very common among those who have restricted severely.

Honestly, the healthyiest thing you can do right now is push your calories up to at least 1800. If you do gain weight (which I think hat you won't since it will jump-start your metabolism), thats not a bad thing for your health. You should also go see a doctor who knows something about EDs. (Not an ED specialist, just someone who has a general understanding of the medical problems that can arrise from restricting) Talk to him/her about your school stress, sadness, and fear of weight gain.

Eat more salt! Salt increases blood pressure. I have low BP too, and I tend to crave salty things. Celery is high in salt, as are tons of things really.

Do you find yourself cold all the time?

If you're really concerned, I'd talk to a doctor about it. However, you were checked by a doctor else you wouldn't know those numbers right? If they don't seem alarmed, I wouldn't worry too much :)

My blood pressure is around the same as yours and I agree with x17star17x.  Did you talk to your doctor about your blood pressure? Did they seem worried at all? One day when my mother was with me at the doctors and they tested my BP my mom said "Oh gosh that's really low. Is it healthy to be that low?" The doctor assured her that I was fine.

I've noticed that I get dizzy semi-blackouts when I A. don't get enough sleep B. drink too much water. I'm also vegan but the BP thing has been since I was a child.

Well see It's really not that thin on me.....112 pounds honestly.  I gather fat really quickly I look like I weigh more than my 130 pound Mom who Is 5'2.  And My weight isn't "too Thin" Maybe "thin" but I just want to maintain not lose.  But I'll try eating 1,800 calories Idea  =)

But I never ever had a blood pressure this low, even when I was 104 pounds I had about 96/60 something like that.  The too much water thing could definitely be a factor though because each morning I have a huge cup of coffee with water then about 800 ML of water.....I'll just go and eat the saltiness now.  Thanks for the help everyyone !

I find it very hard to belive that you look luke you weigh more than your mother. I looked at your pictures and you look like your about 112. And it does not look like you have a high % bf either. Also, judging from your journal entry along with what you've said in this thread, I think that you may have some mild BDD (body dysmorphic disorder)

But tht being said, you are on the right track with maintaining at 1800 calories.

My blood pressure got that low once 88\56. That was right when I woke up and had not eaten anything yet. I have a "mild" case of syncope (doctors said mild, I don't think so). So when the heat is up and I am working a lot I can get dizzy and light headed and my vision goes black. This is becouse the blood can pool in your legs and it takes a while for it to get back to your brain. The doctors told me to drink extra water and add a little more salt to my diet. That does not seem to work though. There are stockings that you can wear that are suppose to help with the blood flow.

As for your blood pressure, that seems a little low to me. Just make sure you are drinking enough water. You might need more than what you are drinking.
