Trader Joe's Complete Body Cleanse

Quote  |  Reply

Has anyone tried Trader Joe's Total Body Cleanse? Did it work? What were your experiences, results, etc.?

To be clear, by 'work' and 'results' I do not mean losing weight. I know that cleanses are not an effective weight loss tool. However, I have been feeling run down lately, I have been drinking too much alcohol, too much coffee, and eating poorly (or more poorly than normal). I admit that just the idea of a 'cleanse' sounds wonderful.

I have searched around on-line and there are mixed reviews.

What's appealing about TJ's Total Body cleanse is that it is not some restrictive diet, like that gross lemonade one. As far as I can tell, you eat normally, drink a lot of water, and take three different supplements--one for bowel cleansing, one for your liver and other toxins, and some fiber pills for overall digestive regularity. You take these a couple of times a day for two weeks.

My running partner is doing it now, and she says she feels great. She claims she's motivated to eat better and is feeling better in general. She was constipated for awhile and assures me that THAT problem is totally taken care of. And--she rightly points out--even if all of this is a a placebo effect, it is still an effect.

So...any opinions? Can such regimens really cleanse you out and purify you? Or is your body already an effecient enough machine to do that on its own? Do we really have things that get 'stuck' in our plumbing like the pipes under my bathroom sink? Or is our internal plumbing better than manmade irrigation?

I haven't done that one, but a naturopath had me do a cleanse last fall. I had just found out i have a bunch of food intolerances. So, I cut out all thos efoods (and a bunch of others) and drank a lot of their magic goo for a month. I felt awesome!

Here's a link to the program I did. You can only get it form a doctor, but i'm guessing if you combined their diet with the Trader Joe's stuff, it would work: http://www.bio-genesis.com/pdf/bioCleanse.pdf

I'm getting ready to do another cleanse. I felt so good after the first time, but then I got lazy, and have been eating a lot of things I shouldn't. My stomach is a mess and I'm exhausted all the time. I'm not looking forward to the diet, but I'm sick of feeling like this.

Good luck!

Awesome, thanks! Anyone else?

Don't know about the Trader Joe's cleanse as I haven't seen it here in Canada. I have used the Wild Rose Cleanse Kit (available in Alberta) which it similar to what you describe. It also comes with a set of eating guidelines. I have never used it for weight loss and have used it for cleaning up my diet/heathier eating and determining food sensitivities.

The eating guidelines tend to promote local eating, a balanced diet and removing caffiene and processed foods.

This cleanse is really good. I bought it but waited to start it until after Christmas when I knew I'd be stopping drinking alcohol.

When you do this cleanse you stop caffeine, artificial sweetener, dairy, meat, wheat and soy.

Whole foods and nuts are what you put in your mouth for these 2 weeks, and it's a good thing! The feeling of renewed energy was such a great surprise. The herbal ingredients of the cleanse make it a gentle one, not like a colonoscopy prep.

I highly recommend the Complete Body Cleanse to anyone. Enjoy!

...Or, you can eat normally and let your liver do the work for you...

Forgot to add, my incentive to stop alcohol and do the cleanse were high liver enzymes. Now they are within normal limits! Am focused now on not bombarding my liver anymore with chemicals, alcohol, or anything that will possibly harm it.

Not only do the liver and colon get cleansed, but the gallbladder and the bloodstream too!

Yeah I agree that overuse of alcohol can be harmful to your liver.  But cutting out other major food groups seems unnecessary and pointless.

I shouldn't have said to stop meat during the 2 weeks,

red meat specifically.

You're just giving your digestive system a break from that which is hardest for the body to digest, so the Cleanse can do its thing for you.

After that, you eat what you like, and with the change of season, do another Cleanse. (no more than 4 a year.)

Cleanses are a farce@!  Plain and simple, just eat a good diet of whole foods, not processed, stop alcohol consumption and you will be fine.

I got severely constipated after I quit smoking - literally I got so blocked up I ended up hospitalized 2 times, the 2nd time had to have a tube stuck down my nose into my stomach to suck the sheist out of my gut.  I was throwing up sheist cause I was so sick.

I had so many gallons of goytely http://www.nulytely.com/ and colonscopies as well as barium enemas, and gastrografin enemas and xrays taken I know what a REAL cleanse is.

After the last colonoscopy the doctor recommended I go to a Mayo clinic for another test on the speed my colon pushes.  I also learned I have a "redundant colon" meaning I have about 2X as much colon as the average person. the surgeon I used to work for offered to remove the extra colon to help me experience some relief- no thanks!!

So what I discovered on my own was high doses of vitamin C did wonders.  I would do vitamin C capsules,  "Emergencee" and lo and behold I got regular and now when I get symptoms of being stopped up again I just eat lots of oranges, take some vitamin c supplements and drink extra fluid and feel relief in a day.
