here is a link to an article. It talks about supplements being the cause, and that we should get these vitamins from our foods, so I would assume your safe..

Urgg but now i found it will be harmful to bone and skin...

what kind of food doesnt have vitamin A!? X*(. i live off of it it sounds like. every single food they mention with alot of vitamin A is the food i eat.

An vitamin A overdose can be harmful to bones and skin, causing weakness and brittleness, even leading to fatigue and vomiting. Excessive intake of vitamin A is toxic, at dosages of around 20-25,000 IU daily. Consuming more than 25,000 IU of vitamin A per day (adults) and 10,000 IU per day (children) from either food or supplements or both is known to be toxic. For those 19 and older, the tolerable upper limit for vitamin A consumption has been set at 10,000 IU per day. An excess of vitamin A taken during pregnancy can cause birth defects in the fetus.

Symptoms of a vitamin A overdose include tiredness, discomfort, lethargy, upset stomach, decreased appetite, vomiting, slow or decreased growth, joint soreness, irritability, headache, drying and cracking of the lips and skin, hair loss, and yellowing of the skin. this descrives me

Google Vitamin A.  Vitamin A from Beta-carotene is harmless and excess is excreted in the urine.  I think you're consuming this mostly by the sounds of it.

Mayo Clinic's page on Vitamin A

Mayo Clinic's page on Beta carotene

I would recommend you continue to eat as you do, sounds like you are eating healthy foods ... just don't take extra supplements in pill form. To be sure, please consult with your physician.

If this describes you, I suggest you go to your doctor ASAP. It sounds serious. Is your skin really yellowing? Go to a doctor ASAP as I don't think it's from eating sweet potatoes and carrots.

"Go to a doctor ASAP"

Absolutely... A few sweet potatoes and carrots won't make that list of nasty symptoms happen to you but something like jaundice or a thyroid problem might.

haha, i ment most of the symptoms.... i dont have yellow skin but i do have tiredness, discomfort,, upset stomach, decreased appetite,, slow or decreased growth, joint soreness, irritability, headache, drying and cracking of the lips and skin, hair loss (just b/ci have hair... in general), and these could be b/c of other reasons. .

but....... if what crayon syas is true... then i think im okay :D

except i atea  WHOLE box of chcolate chip cookies today XD ahha. i havent had those in FOREVER.. i missed them x3

If you're experiencing those symptoms, then please go see a doctor post haste.

Vitamin A from plant sources is not supposed to be harmful even in large doses (see your doctor if this is a concern or cut back on it so that it's at a typical level).  Vitamin A from animal sources can be overdone.

Aw, darnit. I eat over 25,000 IU from yams and carrots regularly. Recently I had a day where I took in 50,000 IU. I've only been having stomach pain and tiredness, though; my skin and hair have been fine.

You're sick.... It almost certainly isn't due to eating sweet potatoes but you are definitely not in good health.     Go to see your doctor and have a physical check-up.

I just took comparative nutrition.  Fun stuff!

Vitamin A is the easiest vitamin to overdo, which is why even high-dose multivitamins have only 50%-100% of your RDA of A in them (when they have 100-300% of other things).  However, what somebody else said about getting A as beta carotene is right - it is MUCH harder to overdose on beta carotene because your body is very good at getting rid of it.  Beta carotene is the way A is stored in orange veggies like carrots and sweet potatoes.

I too get way too much vitamin A.  Personally, I am planning to talk to a nutritionist about it, because I want them to review my entire diet anyway.  If you're really worried, or especially if you're starting to show symptoms of toxicity, you should probably do the same.  Otherwise, get your vitamin A as beta carotene, avoid multivitamins with lots of A (the one I take has 50% of the RDA in it) or just take a B-complex vitamin (rather than one of the multis), and try not to worry about it.

It seems like we share symptoms, coconut. When one of us gets a diagnosis we should let the other know. xD I've already gone to my doctor. They just can't seem to figure out what's wrong with me anymore. We're going to all sorts of medical specialists now and searching for possible ailments. I am excellent at confusing everyone.

I agree with gi-jane; you aren't likely to be sick due to vitamin A. I'm probably not, either. Unless you take a multi vitamin with insane amounts of the vitamin on top of those sweet potatoes. Definatly go see a doctor. This is the last thing to judge over the internet.

Not All Processed Foods Are Created Equal
Fact: a diet containing whole, fresh fruits and vegetables is one of the best for a healthy mind and body. Although true, it can be hard to keep food fresh at home for longer periods of time, and if you have no time to shop every few days, boxed and canned foods become appealing. We often hear about heavily processed frozen dinners and processed foods worth avoiding, but there are minimally processed foods that do pack a lot of nutrition and may be worth having in the fridge or cupboard.
